Desmond was still on his phone when I glanced over my shoulder again. His voice had grown quieter but rough as he moved out of the living room, out through the glass doors leading to the terrace. The low hum of his words eventually faded beneath the morning stillness. A peaceful morning...Caleb!I remembered and arose slowly.I wandered upstairs and peeked into Caleb’s room. The bed was empty, neatly made except for a small toy car left on the pillow. A faint scent of his shampoo lingered in the air. It occurred to me he was always off to school even before I woke up.I walked further in, touching the tiny stack of comics on his desk, the scribbled crayon drawings taped to the wall -one of me, him, and Desmond. I smiled faintly, running a finger over the uneven line that was supposed to be my hair.On his walls were different posters of cartoon characters. Specifically Ben 10 and the kid from Dragon Rider. And at the lower side was a picture of me, him and Desmond - the same one he

“Moi belle?”I turned sharply, my pulse skipping a beat. For a moment, my eyes couldn’t adjust enough to make out the figure standing by the staircase. No! It couldn’t be him. That voice… deep, teasing, slightly accented. There was only one person who ever called me that. And it was impossible- utterly impossible for him to be here.My vision cleared at last, and there he was.He was studying me, just as stunned as I was. His dark eyes narrowed slightly, his nose flaring as though he couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing.“Moi belle,” he repeated, now sounding certain, chuckling as he stepped down the short staircase that linked the living room to the dining area. His steps were deliberate, heavy, filled with smug confidence. “It is you!”He sounded like he still didn’t believe it himself.“What… what are you doing here?” I whispered, frozen in place.“What am I doing here?” he countered, a grin tugging at his lips. “What are you doing here?” His hands went to his hips, muscles fl

~MELISSA~"It's ma belle," I grumbled once he reached me in the flowers' shade."What?" He leaned in, eyes focused."It's ma belle," I yelled. "Not moi belle. Your french is terrible." I turn back to what I'm doing and he's frozen.Only if he'd remain that way. "Correction taken, ma belle""I didn't tell you so you'd correct yourself. Apparently it's more annoying when you're saying it wrong.""Noted, mademoiselle." He was now standing above me, his hand stretched out to the mud pots where he was placing the gloves down. He moved with that careless ease- the kind that said he belonged everywhere he went. I saw how carefully he was trying not to get dirt on himself. When he was done, he leaned casually against the railing. The faint scent of his cologne mixed with the cool garden air, teasing my senses in a way I didn’t like. What have I done to him that he likes to torment me with his company.“You know I still find it hard to believe that you're walking into a Steele's family. As

~DESMOND~A soft tug at my arm pulled me out of sleep.“Daddy,” Caleb’s voice came roughly."Hey, big man," I mumbled and he pulled my arm around his shoulders giggling."Mummy said breakfast’s ready.”My eyes flip open. "Mummy?"He rushed down the bed, standing erect.“Alright, alright,” I muttered, sitting up and reaching to ruffle his hair. “Tell her I’m coming.”He darted off ahead of me, his little feet pattering against the hallway floor.By the time I made it to the dining room, the smell of toast and brewed coffee filled the air. Melissa stood by the table beside Amanda, arranging plates quietly. “Good morning,” I greeted, walking in and taking my seat. She looked up briefly and gave a small nod. “Good morning.”Amanda brought in the last tray. A bowl of fruit and a dish of sauc before stepping back to let us be. "What is this a feast?""It's called breakfast, Desmond," She settled in her seat beside Caleb who was already tapping at his iPad."Hand that over, sweety.""Nooo,"

"Let him in, it's my little boy," I grinned as Caleb's endless knock became persistent. One of the girls who came with the make-up artist pulled the door open and Caleb came leaping toward me, his tiny steps light and eager on the marble floor. His little tailored suit hugged his frame perfectly, the white shirt crisp under the tiny black vest. His shoes shone, and his hair was neatly slicked back in that adorable, mischievous way that made him look like a miniature version of his father. He looked dashing.Seems like defying the tradition of 'no one sees the bride until the altar' was worth it.“Wow…” he gasped, slowing to a stop right in front of me. His eyes widened in awe as he tilted his head back to take me in. “You look so pretty, Mommy.”My heart softened instantly. I smiled, brushing a stray lock of his hair back into place. “And you, sir, look very handsome.”He grinned proudly, puffing his little chest out. “I look like Daddy, right?”I laughed faintly. “Better.”But my vo
