Lahat ng Kabanata ng Got A Free Husband, His Son Was A Bonus: Kabanata 71 - Kabanata 80

~MELISSA~“Did you ever try to find your real dad?” Desmond asked, and I waited to finish my sip and place the champagne flute down on the table before answering. Our conversations had continued to take one different turn after the other. Since we got here, we had been talking about so much that we barely touched our meal, but didn’t skip on the drink because it was easier to talk through sips. And now we got to talking about my parents.“I never really searched. My mother told me he was dead. My stepdad said the same too. So I didn’t really have any lead on him. Raymond is the one who even suspected that perhaps my dad was alive somewhere and my mum was hiding it from me. It gave me the urge to ask her but what did I get back in return? A one-month grounding plus abuses.” I shook my head, blinking at the bulb-lit night outside the restaurant window. “And when I came back to Raymond about it, he acted as if he had never even been the one who brought it up in the first place. I think

MELISSA I wasn't free from Raymond yet. I should've known. The rejection only fueled his anger and I knew I had stung a place of pride in him.I headed out of my office and met the cornered end to the staircase but before I reached there, I caught a glimpse of Richard standing in the middle of the staircase with a shorter lady in front of him. Quickly, I stepped back behind the wall and peeked back. The lady made a side turn and I saw her face. Claudia?"Now just exactly what are you two up to?" I asked myself.Richard appeared casual, leaning on the railing but his eyes were too attentive for a trivial discussion. He began nodding his head, his lips moving as if he was reciting a spell. Then he resumed his journey up the stairs while Claudia remained standing there, frozen.I cleared my throat and pushed myself out of my hiding place. Richard stopped in his tracks immediately and I looked up to see him like I hadn't before."Richard?""What are you doing here?" We both asked at t

~MELISSA~"I'm fine," I whispered, brushing his hand off gently before turning my back on him. "I should go back and check to make sure everything's okay outside," his thumb pointed behind him."It's fine. I think I'll just stay here!" I reached for the nearest chair and sat. Desmond switched on the lights before rushing out almost immediately.I sat there with my head buried in my hands. At this point I was convinced that I could never reason with Adele. To talk with her you would have to be prepared to get wine poured on your face or at least be ready to pour back. While Desmond was gone, I walked around the room - Quiet, big, blue. It was plain with just a big bed and some pieces of furniture - old design tables, chairs, shelves, crystal lamps, and a cold fireplace which looked like it hadn't tasted even a matchstick for ages. There was a rack filled with drinks, probably for storage. I examined some and they were really good wines. The shelf had only a few books lined up besid

When I said I was about to meet the entire Steele family, I was just being poetic but it turned out I was really about to appear in front of them all. Their court.Nothing hurt more than the splitting headache that came after a booze knock out.I had to struggle through it to sit down on the empty chair available."Good..." My voice cracked so I cleared my throat. "Good morning.""Melissa." Mr Steele called my name like he attempted to draw every single person's attention and not just mine. "My wife and I suggested you get called down but Desmond insisted we allowed you some time to get yourself ready.""Yes, yes Mr Steele, I had a rough night," When I said that, my glance fell on Desmond out of control. The way his eyes were was a sign he had been staring at me since I got here. I looked back at Mr Steele at once. "I mean the party... the party night.""See?" Patricia clapped. "I told you! She was with me when Adele ran mad last night! She could have killed someone! She was aiming ma

~DESMOND~The more I tried to be honest with Melissa, the more I lied to her. It was becoming a serious pattern that I feared I may never be able to stop. She was sitting on the decorated floor in a casual red T-shirt and pajama pants, her hair knotted into a rough ponytail, her smile radiant as she watched Caleb unwrapping his gifts one after the other, her eyes da rating with focus. And I just sat there on the sofa watching. No! I wasn’t just watching her. I was thinking about her from last night.God! I couldn’t get us out of my mind.I swiped my fingers across the corners of my mouth and forced my focus back to her.I didn’t know if it was pride that kicked in and made me lie about how I felt about her.I wasn’t sober when I confessed my love for her, yes. But it was at that moment that it occurred to me what I truly felt for her.I had been unsure. Doubtful. Scared to believe I could feel anything for anyone after losing Isabella. But it had been different since the moment I set
