A Little Too Close

Kira’s POVI walked like a ghost on autopilot, the king’s handprint still burning on my ass, his taste still in my mouth, vampire blood still smeared on my jaw. School. He said school. Like I’m sixteen and late for homeroom. My brain kept replaying the last five minutes on loop…fangs, claws, a woman’s face peeling off, everyone dropping to their knees like the king pressed an invisible “worship” button. And me…just standing there like an idiot who forgot the script.I turned a corner and nearly walked into a suit of armor. Great. Even the furniture wants to fight me.“Princess!”The voice cracked through the hallway like a lifeline. Liana. She was running toward me in her little maid dress, eyes wide, curls bouncing.Something inside me snapped. The tears I’d been fighting since the throne room finally welled up, hot and grateful. I didn’t care that I didn’t know her well enough…I ran straight into her arms and collapsed. My whole body shook against her frame.Whatever happened insid

A Day Outside

Kira’s POVI exhaled sharply, rubbing my hands down my thighs as if that would erase the feeling of Liana’s fingers. My pulse was still too loud, too quick. The attic suddenly felt smaller than a coffin.‘Okay… Abby,’ I muttered in my head, staring at the cracked window like she might answer through the glass. ‘If you’re in there, now would be a great time to help me out.’Silence.I rolled my eyes at myself and kept going anyway.‘Seriously, if you can hear me, maybe drop a manual? A list? A sticky note?’ I thought, as though I conjured her up for a meeting. ‘Something like… ‘Here’s how to survive my messed up life without dying again.’ Or maybe, ‘Here’s who you can trust so you don’t get stabbed, poisoned, or seduced by your own maid.’Nothing. Not even a twitch in my chest.I sighed and rubbed my temples. ‘Did you and Liana have…something? Because she’s acting like she owns you. Like she has some kind of claim. Is that a thing? Was she your…whatever? Or does she bully you too but i

Choke On It

Kira’s POVI barely finished the last syllable when the air in front of me snapped like someone cracked a whip made of lightning. No footsteps, no warning…just a violent whoosh that slammed loose strands back from my face and filled my lungs with the scent of ozone and something darker, like smoked cedar and male skin. One second it was an empty marble courtyard, the next…Adrian, six-foot-too-much of him, white shirt stretched across his chest, eyes glowing an unholy crimson-gold instead of the usual gray. I didn’t even get to exhale. He’s here? Already? No…wrong question. How did he know I’d called for him?I wanted to ask him but he was too distracted eating me up with his eyes. His gaze traveled from my eyes and dropped straight to my legs. Then it dragged up the stupidly short skirt, lingered on the way it hugged my hips, then crawled over my chest like he was already peeling the uniform off with his teeth. Hunger…raw, shameless hunger…burned in his eyes so bright I felt it li

How A Queen Behaves

Kira’s POV“Liana. Stay.”I froze.Liana froze.Even the air seemed to hold its breath the moment those words left his mouth. For a full second, nobody moved, not even Adrian. The only thing I could hear was the sharp, panicked flutter of Liana’s heartbeat behind me.I turned slowly, very slowly, because if I looked too fast I might actually lunge at him. “Excuse me? What do you want with her now? Gonna bully her because I got a sweet ride out of you? She pays for this somehow? You’ll punish her later? Is that how twisted you are?”His whole face twisted like I’d actually punched him in the stomach. The color drained from his skin. He looked…sick. Hurt in a way I’d never seen on anyone.“I don’t blame you for seeing me as a monster,” he said quietly, voice rough and unsteady. “That’s all I’ve been since the day you became mine. I earned your anger. I earned every bit of it. But… Can you give me a chance to show you I can be better? To at least try to earn your love instead of forcing

Meeting The Bullies

Kira’s POVThe hallway smelled like expensive perfume the second I straightened up.Four girls stood in a perfect half-circle, blocking my path like they’d rehearsed it. Designer bags, perfect blowouts, uniforms tailored so tight they looked painted on. Front and center was the obvious leader…tall, blonde, lips injected to hell, eyes that screamed “I’ve never been told no in my life.”She must be Victoria Dowell. The girl Liana mentioned as Abby’s biggest tormentor in the academy. She flicked her gaze up and down my uniform like it personally offended her.“Wow. Look who crawled out of whatever dumpster the king found her in,” she said, voice dripping sugar-coated venom. “Do you actually own a mirror, or did you get dressed in the dark? That uniform looks like it’s crying for help.”Her little minions snickered on cue.“Yeah, seriously,” one added, popping her gum. “You’re, like, offending the fabric.”“Does she think this is some sort of movie, where she magically transforms into a

The Man in The Winter Coat

Kira’s POVThe classroom door flew open with a bang that made half the students jump in their seats and turn around in sync.“What is going on here?”The voice was deep, calm, and laced with authority that instantly sucked the air out of the room.He stepped inside.Tall (easily six-four), shoulders broad enough to block the light from the hallway, lean muscle shifting under the crisp white shirt that looked tailored to perfection. Brown hair a little tousled, sharp jaw, cheekbones that could cut glass, and eyes the color of a sunny sky. Handsome didn’t even begin to cover it. He looked like someone had taken the concept of “dangerously beautiful” and made it walk. Although, I hate to admit… Adrian looks kinda hotter compared to him.But what really made me blink was the coat.A long, thick, charcoal wool coat with the collar turned up against the cold. This is Alaska. It’s supposed to be freezing. But, everyone (including me) was in short-sleeve uniforms or thin sweaters. From my ob

Just The Teacher… Or More

Kira’s POVThe murmurs started immediately.“How…how is she stronger than Victoria?”“Victoria’s from the Dowell bloodline…she transformed at fourteen!”“The gutter princess doesn’t even have a wolf. She’s supposed to be human-weak. This shouldn’t be possible…”Wolf? My smile faltered for half a second.Right. Werewolves. Because of course this nightmare came with fur and full moons. According to what Liana told me, Abby was supposed to have a wolf too (supposed to be powerful), but her father had it chained. So where did he chain it? Why hasn’t her wolf been freed? Could it be locked up in a dungeon or basement? I made a mental note to look for her wolf in the palace as soon as I get back. I can’t be the only one in this new reality who doesn’t have what others have.“Let me go, you psycho!” Victoria screeched, face turning an ugly shade of plum as she thrashed.I tightened my grip on her wrist just enough for her to feel the warning bite of my fingers. Her fancy designer bracelet

The Omega

Liana’s POV I stood frozen outside the king’s study door, fingers twisted so tightly into the rough fabric of my uniform that my knuckles had gone white hours ago. Two hours and thirteen minutes, to be exact as I stared at the grand clock on the wall. My legs burned, my feet had long since gone numb, but I didn’t move. I couldn’t. Not when every second in there could be the second he decided to claim what was mine. Because Arabella is mine. My name is Liana Gibson, and I was born an omega…born to kneel, born to serve, born to be nothing more than someone else’s shadow. I hated it. I hated every bowed head, every “yes, master,” every time I was forced to swallow my own screams just to keep breathing. I was a thing. A tool. A toy to be passed around until I broke. Then Prince Ronan bought me. A gift, he said, for his little sister. The first time I saw Princess Arabella, something inside me snapped into place so violently I almost fell to my knees right there in the throne room.

The Things I’ll Do For You

Liana’s POVThe king folded his hands on the desk, all earnest golden eyes and repentant alpha energy. “Let’s start simple. What are her favorite colors?”I lowered my gaze like a shy little mouse and twisted my fingers in my lap. Oh… Princess Arabella loves pink. Not just any pink…bubblegum, blush, rose quartz, hot flamingo, the kind of pink that makes your eyes bleed if you stare too long. She used to say if she ever got her own room in the palace, she’d paint the entire thing pink, inside and out. Hello Kitty, glitter, stuffed animals, fairy lights, the whole explosion of cute. She always says boring colors make her soul cry.But I didn’t tell them all these. I told them the exact opposite. The ones that will make her soul cry. The ones that will send her running back to me for comfort.I watched Beta Alex scribble it all down. The king nodded eagerly and repeated into his phone, “No pink. Absolutely no shades of pink. Deep charcoal walls, steel-gray curtains, black marble floors.

The Price of Obsession

Liana’s POV“Anything,” I said, as I forced myself to look down slightly, so I didn’t stare too long at her ghostly face.Morgana’s grin widened, slow and pleased, like an evil witch from a children’s book who just found a child wandering alone in the woods. She lifted her chin slightly.“Are you truly willing to do anything?” she asked, her voice smooth and clear, not hiding the fact that she already knew the answer. My fingers tightened against the floor. “Yes.”Her smile stretched even more, showing small, sharp teeth in a neat row. She looked delighted…not kind, not curious, just amused in a way that made my stomach twist.“Good,” she said softly. “I like when they don’t pretend.”She floated back just an inch, enough to look down at me fully.“What I want in return,” she continued, “is simple.”The cavern fell completely silent.“One.” She held up a claw. “A drop of your blood every half moon, for a full year. I will drink it from your veins. You will come here, alone, and bare y
