《Winning My Angry Ex Back》全部章節：第 21 章 - 第 30 章

shley's POV“Uh, hello?” I say hesitantly into the phone.“Hello, good morning. Am I speaking with Ms. Ashley Hunt?” The speaker, a female whose voice I don’t recognize, asks. Her voice is calm … too calm, but that doesn’t ease my worry even a little bit. In fact, it rather worsens it.It's the kind of calm tone that people use when they want to give bad news, but don't want to alarm you.“Ye … yes … this is Ashley. Who am I speaking with, please?”“I’m Nurse Eliza Cooper from St. Mary’s General Hospital … I’m calling to ...”“Oh, my goodness, what’s going on?” I interrupt her as my worst fears come to pass. There’s no reason I can think of why a hospital would be calling me other than the fact that something is wrong with either of the two people I love most in the world.“I’m sorry, ma’am, but I'm calling concerning Janet Collins. You’re listed as her emergency contact.”Janet? My best friend, who is taking care of my daughter Aurora? Someone is calling me about Janet from a hospita

Ashley’s POVAlmost as though she was watching me somehow, or she has a sixth sense, Claire appears at the doorway the second I'm done cleaning.“Now, that's what I'm talking about. This place looks spotless. Well done, Ashley.” She tells me, looking around the office like a supervisor inspecting a factory, before giving a quick nod of approval.“Where should I keep the mop and bucket, ma'am?” I ask her. “Oh, don't worry your pretty little head about that, Ashley, dear. Just leave them where they are. The cleaner will take care of them. Listen, that doorway leads to Jeff’s restroom. I want you to go in there and wash your hands thoroughly.”Nodding and hoping to the high heavens that she doesn’t have any more ridiculous tasks to ask me to accomplish, I go into the restroom and do as she asks.I'm in a hurry to continue my work because I'm far behind my colleagues due to the time I've been away. Before I was suspended, I was working on some sketches for some fabric revisions. I intend

Ashley’s POVClaire’s heels click dramatically against the supermarket tiles as she stalks toward us angrily, like she’s just caught me committing a federal crime instead of just picking up her stupid yogurt.“What are you doing here?” She asks sharply, her gaze darkening when she gets a good look at my companion.I open my mouth to speak, my pulse racing. I hope to God that she won't embarrass me here. “You sent me to …”“Not you,” She snaps at me, as she stares daggers at the stranger. “You. What are you doing with her?”“Well, well, well, look who we have here. It's Claire Anderson herself! How are you doing today, Claire?” The stranger, whose name I still don’t know, drawls, and I stiffen yet again. He knows who she is? Well, she’s popular obviously, but then, from the tone of his voice and the way she posed that question to him, they sound like they could be acquaintances … and not the cool kind at that.Claire’s angry gaze flicks from my face to the man’s face, and then she loo

Ashley’s POVTerrified beyond words, I dash out of my car, leaving the lights and the car door open in my hurry, and race over to my daughter, my heart in my throat.“Aurora! Aurora! Baby!” I scream.Despite my screams of terror, she remains motionless and doesn’t stir. I sink to the floor beside her and gather her up in my arms, as my body trembles in fear and tears roll down my face.‘She's warm, she's warm and breathing. I must dial 911 and rush her to the hospital.’ I think to myself. As this thought goes through my mind, Aurora stirs in my arms, and her head jerks up.Her confused and scared gaze takes me in for a few seconds before recognition dawns on her. Oh, thank goodness! She was only sleeping. “Mummy, mummy! You came! I was so scared!” She exclaims, as she throws her small arms tightly around my neck and begins to sob.I hold her to my chest just as tightly, if not even more so, and the two of us stay that way, crying in each other’s arms for several minutes. It takes t

Claire’s POVThe last thing I'm expecting as I head into the office this morning is for anybody to be here this early. I had purposely come in before sunrise for one reason.I wanted peace, quietness, and the chance to work without any distractions. I wanted no competition ... no Ashley ... no lingering Ghosts of the past that Jeff refuses to acknowledge, even though I'm sure he is dying to acknowledge it.When I saw headlights turning into the office compound ahead of me, I never envisaged in my wildest dreams that it would be the one person whom I didn't want to see. Ashley ... She's here at this ungodly hour, almost as if she knows that I loathe her presence, and she's determined to annoy me by shoving it down my throat, whether I like it or not.Well, she's forgetting one thing, and that's the fact that in this office, I'm the boss of her, and she will do exactly what I say. So I walk towards her car, so I can spoil her day, just as she has spoiled mine already. She looks just as
