《Winning My Angry Ex Back》全部章節：第 31 章 - 第 40 章

Jeff’s POVI shouldn’t have come here. I realize this the minute I set my eyes on Ashley. If I have any sense left, I would stay away from her, just as I've been doing ever since she started working here. But then, for how long would I keep running away from my own company on account of a traitorous woman? The longer I stay away and pretend that she no longer exists, the more my thoughts keep drifting to her, until they drag me straight to the place I swore I would never enter when I employed her … her office.I've been away longer than I needed to be, even though I finished my business trip almost a week ago.The moment I look in Ashley's office and see her in there, sitting alone in the quiet room, and bent over her sketches like she used to do back when we lived together, it feels like I’ve been slammed in the gut with a baseball bat. This image of her invokes memories that are best forgotten. While the setting of my office and the tiny apartment we lived in together are vastly dif

Ashley’s POVThe breath leaves my body in a slow and unsteady exhale. Jeff knows exactly what he's doing.Hiring Claire, whom everyone knows hates me, is a power move on his part as far as I'm concerned. He wants to use her to do his dirty work of punishing me for heaven knows what. The fact that Claire singled me out of everyone here to address makes me more certain of this fact.My throat tightens painfully as the reality of the situation fully dawns on me. Claire isn't going to leave like I previously thought she would. She'll come here every single day and be the boss of everyone, including me, meaning she'll have a direct influence on my projects and everything I do in the office.“Oh,” I manage to say, after all, what else is there to say? It's not as if I can storm into Jeff's office and demand that he undo this decision, and neither can I accuse Claire Anderson of anything. They are cohorts after all.We all gradually disperse to start our work for the day, and I resolve to ke

Ashley’s POV“Well, this is acceptable. You can go now. Return to your floor and try to look presentable.” She delivers her verdict, already scrolling away on her tablet. "Oh, and by the way, Jeff expects you to finish your reports today, so it will be in your best interest to do that."Acceptable ... The word, along with the glaring lack of gratitude, is so infuriating, but I'm glad to be rid of Claire, at least for the time being.I gather up my things and finally step out of her office for the first time since that morning, my entire body overworked. Unfortunately, today, I'm not as lucky as I was yesterday.Since it's still work hours, many of the other employees are walking up and down the hallways, so of course, I attract so many stares as I head down to my floor. My face is flaming red in embarrassment as I hurry towards my office. My coworkers, with whom I share the office, all stare at me in shock as I come in, but no one says a word, which is just as well.I feel so humiliat

Ashley’s POVHe doesn't stop his tirade. “You’re still the same person you've always been. You’re unreliable, careless, and always running off when things get too hard. Do you know how many fashion designers would kill for the position you're in right now? A position I gave you because I felt that you were the right person for it, but see how you're repaying me for that, by losing clients and getting yourself suspended during your first week. You are embarrassing yourself, but that's not all. You're also embarrassing me and causing people to question my judgment."The words are very harsh. But his piercing gaze is even harsher, and my breath stutters painfully. Of course, he was aware of my suspension.Even though I'm too focused on him to look around, I can tell that my coworkers are watching this scene unfold in fascination.“Jeff ... Please just listen ...”"There’s nothing to listen to.” He cuts in coldly. “If you make even the slightest mistake from now on, I'm going to fire you

Jeff's POV“First of all, Jeff, I’d like to tell you that there’s no need for you to be so hard on yourself. Mistakes happen, and you thought that Ashley was going to be the right person for that job.”“I know, I know. Are you going to state the real reason why you're here, or are you going to continue to beat about the bush?”“I’m getting there. As we can now see, making clothes for the poor is vastly different from making high-end fashion. That’s why Ashley is struggling, I believe. Margaret introduced a lot of big clients to us. That’s how much influence she has. If she’s sufficiently pissed, she may ask them to stop giving us projects. I know for a fact that they’re going to listen to her, and that’s going to be very bad for us. Besides, Margaret is very petty. She can decide to badmouth the company all over the press, and that will be deadly.”“You're right. So what do you suggest we do? I can’t have a repeat of what happened today.” I frown at her. I already know all of what she
