Mathilda’s POVI woke up when the plane began to shake from turbulence. The sky outside was dark and heavy, flashes of lightning slicing through the clouds. My heart started to race — I hated this kind of weather.I glanced at my watch. Two in the afternoon. Apparently, I’d been asleep for quite a while. When I looked over at Fredric and Paula, both seemed to be asleep too — no whispering, no movement between them. The flight was still long, and boredom was creeping in. Maybe I’d just go back to sleep.I slipped my eye mask back on and let the darkness pull me under again. Slowly, my thoughts faded… until I heard a voice whisper right by my ear.“Hey, can we talk for a moment?”If only I could answer, ‘No, I can’t.’What could she possibly want?I lifted my eye mask and looked at Paula, nodding stiffly.“Well,” she began, crossing her legs with a smirk, “I think this little drama we’ve been putting on has worked out pretty well for us. You’ve gotten to live the high life — a big-name

Mathilda’s POVThe beauty of Bora Bora is truly beyond words — it’s like catching a glimpse of heaven itself. My eyes were spoiled with views so unreal that I almost forgot to blink during the drive to the resort.Fredric and I rode in separate cars. Earlier, he’d said that they — meaning him and Paula — would be having breakfast “in the middle of the ocean,” while I was to go straight to the resort. Honestly, that suited me perfectly. The last thing I wanted was to sit through their sickly sweet displays of affection. The morning sun was soft and warm, and the car’s gentle motion made my eyelids heavy. I couldn’t wait to bury my face in a pillow. At least I’d have peace and quiet until tonight — especially since Fredric had told Mrs. Rosa he wouldn’t be contacting her again until tomorrow afternoon. After about fifteen minutes, we finally arrived at a floating luxury resort that seemed to hover over the turquoise sea. There are no words for this kind of beauty. For the first time, I

Mathilda’s POV“Thanks for inviting me to your bungalow — and sorry if all I can offer is orange juice and pasta.”Frank smiled sweetly as he took another bite. Honestly, this was the nicest breakfast I’d ever had with a man.Just imagine if this were happening with Fredric — I’d probably faint for days.“This is more than enough,” Frank said warmly. “You didn’t need to spend a thing. You’re helping me without expecting anything in return, and we’re just sitting here, enjoying this incredible view. That’s more than I could’ve hoped for.”Still, meeting him felt like discovering a rare kind of peace — and maybe even… friendship.“Anyway,” he continued, “we’ve only been talking about me. If you don’t mind me asking — did you come here alone?”I took a sip of my drink before answering. I needed a second to think of the right words. I couldn’t tell him I’d come here with my husband. I was far too intrigued by Frank to ruin this moment with the truth. Maybe, just maybe, I could taste somet

Fredric’s POVWhy?Why the hell do I feel so worked up — so angry — just thinking about that man? I’ve tried to stay calm, but my head keeps replaying the image of Mathilda with him. It’s eating at me, this irritation I can’t explain. Do I… do I actually feel jealous? No. No way.Me? Jealous — over Mathilda? That’s ridiculous. Impossible.“Baby, what are you thinking about?” Paula’s voice broke through my thoughts, light and playful. “You’ve been sitting there all quiet, head down. That’s not like you. Don’t you want to enjoy me? I even bought new lingerie just for today.”Her chatter grated on me. I wanted her to stop talking, to just stop. I wasn’t in the mood for her seductive nonsense. But I couldn’t let her realize that what was actually bothering me was… that man with Mathilda.“You’ve been acting weird ever since you saw that guy,” she said, squinting at me. “Are you upset? Jealous, maybe?”I turned to her sharply. “No. Why would you even say that? Why would I be jealous?”“The

Mathilda’s POVI never even expected to get Fredric’s permission — or maybe I should rephrase that: I never expected to have the courage to even ask him if I wanted to go with Frank.Time barely matters anymore. If Frank and I could spend the evening together, maybe I’d stay a little longer.I still remember the thrill that ran through me when Frank asked if I wanted to explore the island and find a new place to stay. No man had ever asked me something like that before — it felt like a once-in-a-lifetime moment, and I wasn’t about to let it slip away.Like I said, I deserve happiness too. The world doesn’t just revolve around Fredric and Paula. There’s me — Mathilda — who also deserves to feel what joy tastes like, even if just for a fleeting day.“Thanks for agreeing to come with me today, Mathilda,” Frank said, smiling as we walked. “I didn’t expect the woman who first looked at me like I might rob her to end up being such good company.”“You don’t need to thank me,” I said with a l

Fredric’s POVWhere did they go?That question kept echoing in my head. My biggest impulse right now was to walk around this island and make sure they were just sitting somewhere — not doing anything stupid. Why do I even care this much?God, this is torture. But still… I can’t bring myself to admit that what I’m feeling is jealousy. If it ever came to that — if I ever actually admitted to being jealous over Mathilda — I might as well shoot myself.Someone like her could never interest me. She’s nothing but a bothersome, fragile little girl.“Would you like another drink, sir?” the bartender asked.Yeah. I’d been downing cocktails one after another — I’d lost count of how many glasses I’d emptied. My head was starting to spin.“Yes, and— wait, no. No, never mind.”I stopped mid-sentence and tossed some money onto the counter when I saw Mathilda walk past, her head bowed. Why is she back?Did that guy leave her?Her steps were slow, almost dragging — she looked defeated. As much as I c

Mathilda’s POV“Mathilda! Open the door! Do you hear me?”Paula’s shrill voice shattered my precious nap. What the hell did she want now? She’d been pounding on the door nonstop like her life depended on it.I tried to ignore her, but eventually gave in — my ears couldn’t take her annoying voice any longer.Suppressing my irritation, I opened the door to find the curly-haired demon herself standing there.“Were you masturbating?” she asked, raising an eyebrow, her tone dripping with vulgar amusement. What the hell?!What a wonderful question to greet someone with after waking them up.“I’m sorry, Miss Paula. I was sleeping,” I said, keeping my tone even. “Is there something you need?”“Yes, of course.” She pushed past me and sat on my bed like she owned the place. “I want to know how things went with that guy who came to visit you. Did it all go well?”Paula’s eyes roamed over me — wild, sharp, like she wanted to pounce. Sometimes I truly wondered if she was human.“I’m sorry, Miss Pa

It’s been an hour since Paula left, and I’m still lying here with my phone open on the messaging app.Mrs. Rosa’s name is already in the recipient box—but I haven’t typed a single word.Honestly, I feel a deep, crawling unease. Even the sound of the wind outside feels like Paula’s footsteps coming closer. Sometimes I think I hear her calling my name.I’m losing my mind because of that damn woman. If Frank hadn’t gone off with his ex, I swear I would’ve followed him. I would’ve taken the risk and run—anywhere, as long as it was far from them. This whole situation is suffocating me.I’m not ready to talk to Mrs. Rosa. What if she finds out the truth? What if she realizes this pregnancy is a lie? What if I disappoint her even more?I’ve already made too many mistakes.Suddenly, my phone rings, and I jump in shock. My heart races wildly as I see the name on the screen—Mrs. Rosa.Thank God it’s not a video call, but still, I panic.I’m alone—what if she wants to speak to Fredric? What if s

Mathilda’s POVPaula kept her word. She showed up exactly one hour after Mrs. Rosa’s phone call—or two hours after she’d stormed out of my room earlier. The moment I heard the knocking, I woke up immediately.Instead of hiding or pretending not to hear, I decided to face her.I was done running from Paula’s rage.I didn’t even let her pound on the door too long. By the third knock, I opened it.“Mathilda.”And there she was—Paula. But to my surprise, Fredric was standing right beside her.Even more shocking—it was pitch dark outside. What time was it?“Mr. Fredric?” I asked cautiously. “Is something wrong?”“I thought you were dead,” he said flatly. “We came here at four in the afternoon, and you’re only opening the door at ten o’clock.”“What?” My jaw nearly dropped. Ten p.m.?Had I really been asleep that long?“I’m sorry, Mr. Fredric.”I bowed my head, keeping my eyes low—avoiding Paula’s gaze entirely. The last thing I needed was for her to start throwing around “questions” meant

Fredric’s POVThe alarm went off at seven-thirty, pulling me out of a restless sleep. My head was still full of bitterness—disgust, even—toward Mathilda.I never imagined I could ever feel anything for such a stupid woman. Thankfully, the truth came out fast. People like her—poor, useless, dependent—can’t be trusted. They’re parasites. They ruin whatever trust others foolishly give them.Honestly, I couldn’t stand the thought of seeing her this morning. I even tried to think of a way to dodge Grandma’s video call, but my mind was too fogged up to come up with anything decent.I didn’t want to ask Paula for help either. She was still shaken from Mathilda’s insane outburst the night before.Damn it. How dare that woman hurt the two most important women in my life?Goddamn you, Mathilda.“Mmhh… baby, you’re awake?” Paula mumbled, stretching, eyes half-closed.I stroked her hair and kissed her forehead. “Yeah. I have to deal with that routine I can’t escape. I’m sorry, darling. I hate tha
