OMNISCIENT NARRATORIt wasn't the first time life had given her difficult trials, but it was the most transcendental. Amelie had spent the last few months hiding in a small town, keeping silent, avoiding any trace that would connect her to the Feldmans. She had wanted revenge; she had sworn it through tears, but as time passed, that idea faded like smoke lost in the wind. The baby she carried inside had become her only motivation, the reason for her new existence.Meanwhile, at Feldman, Damián continued to fight against his enemies and against himself. For him, finding Amelie was not a strategy to recover the inheritance; it was a desperate cry to recover the woman who, without realizing it, had stolen half his heart. But Amelie knew nothing of that side of the story."Friend, are you sure you don't want us to call your mother?" Soraya asked, carrying the diaper bag on her shoulder."No, friend," Amelie replied firmly, breathing calmly. "I know my mother. It's not that she's gossipy,

Damián FeldmanI recognized that perfume the instant the boardroom door opened.I had waited two months for her return, two damned months in which I hadn't managed to fall asleep even one night, counting the days, completely consumed by anxiety because I needed this damned date to arrive. I felt tormented by the uncertainty of when I would see her again. And now, there she was.Amelie.The world collapsed beneath my feet. A hurricane of need churned inside me, suffocating me, burning me from the inside out.She walked in with Soraya, but Soraya seemed merely a shadow next to the imposing woman who stood beside her. My Amelie. My heart stopped for a fraction of a second. I wasn't the only one who reacted: the shareholders watched her with wide eyes; my uncle Lorenzo immediately rose from his podium as acting CEO, his face contorted; and Rosalía's expression was a whole poem of contained hatred."Good afternoon, gentlemen." Amelie's voice snapped me out of the trance. It sounded firm, s

Damián FeldmanI adjusted my jacket when I saw her leave the office. And now, as strange as it sounded, I loved that imposing and defiant attitude with which Amelie had returned. That nobility and innocence that characterized her before she left seemed to have vanished along with her body as a naive young woman. It sounded almost cliché to say it, but even her figure showed a new, formidable woman, as if life had chiseled her with blows and turned her into polished marble.Damn my luck! Just by looking at her, even my heart had stopped.I went after her, just as the elevator was about to open."Amelie."She turned around suddenly, and I could notice how a slight blush turned into her cheeks. I walked toward her with a firm step. Soraya held her arm protectively, but Amelie gave her a calm, almost imperceptible smile, like a silent command."Don't worry, I'm fine," she said calmly.I reached them, and although I tried not to show the weakness that was consuming me inside, it was visibl

Damián FeldmanMy fingers drummed on the desk over and over. It was finally Monday; I would finally see her again. I had decided not to follow her, even though inside I was dying to. It wasn't hard to imagine how she had spent her time these months; even so, nothing prepared me for the fact of having her here again, just a few meters away. The wall clock struck eight o'clock when I heard the ding of the elevator. My heart skipped a beat; I knew her punctuality too well not to know it was her. I got up, walked to the polarized glass window overlooking the hallway, and confirmed my suspicions. There she was.Amelie walked in imperiously, as if she had never disappeared. Her hair shone under the hallway lights, her stride was firm, almost defiant. Beside her, inseparable, Soraya seemed to have become her shadow, her confidante, her eternal lawyer. Both advanced as if the entire floor belonged to them, until they reached the presidency office. I couldn't miss the spectacle, especially kno

Amelie MansonThe following days were a repetitive ordeal. Soraya and I barely managed to track down shady movements within the company, but nothing clear, nothing that could give us a solid piece of the puzzle. I wanted to ask Damián for an explanation, to confront him at once, but I had no idea which side that imbecile was on. If I confronted him now, perhaps all I would achieve was to tip him off, and then, along with that pig Lorenzo, they would be capable of even ending my existence.I didn't have a valid way out; there wasn't a single plan that gave me the security of not ending up underground. Until, leaving the office for the cafeteria, fate dealt me an unexpected blow: a conversation, shouted, that pierced the walls. It was Rosalía. She was in Damián's office, and the screams echoed so loudly that anyone in that hallway could hear them."I need my part of the inheritance, Damián, I don't have a damned cent!" she vociferated, hitting the desk with both hands. My pulse quickene
