Nate’s PovI stood in the hotel room, staring at the bathroom door.Blonde woman…The phrase was played on repeat in my head. Celeste was blonde, so were hundreds of women here. That doesn’t mean anything. I was just being paranoid.Celeste came out from the bathroom fully dressed, her makeup was flawless and her expression was now composed. Whatever panic that had crept into her voice last night was completely gone.“Ready for breakfast?” She asked quietly, checking her phone without looking at me.The hotel room landline phone rang, interrupting my answer. She picked it up. “Hello?”Her expression changed slightly, her brows were furrowed together and her shoulders went rigid.“Yes, I’m here. What? Now?” She glanced at me quickly. “I understand. I’ll be right down.”She dropped the landline.“I have to go downstairs for a moment. The person in charge of the property needs me.”She grabbed her purse and slipped into a different pair of shoes, black flats.“I’ll be quick.” She explain

Wyatt’s povThe private ambulance pulled out of Ridgefield General's back exit at six- twenty in the evening with no sirens to draw attention. Just a white vehicle moving fast through almost empty streets.I sat in the back with Avery while the medical team worked around me in the cramped space. Harrison monitored her vitals, adjusting her oxygen mask with steady hands, the number on the screen was steady.Through the rear window, headlights pierced the dim evening light. One car was behind us.My phone buzzed against my thigh, it was Marcus. “He's following you. He has been on you since the hospital. We're behind him.”Nate f**king Sterling!I didn’t turn my head. I just kept watching those lights. The ambulance driver took a sharp turn downtown, then another through a narrow side street. The equipment rattled. Sarah, the nurse, adjusted her IV pole without looking up and Dr Harrison didn’t even blink, his focus was on Avery.Marcus sent another message. “Still on you. Picking up sp

I lost them on the highway. One wrong turn at the Route 9 construction detour and the ambulance disappeared into the early night like it had never been there.I sat at the intersection for ten minutes, both hands gripping the wheel, going nowhere. Kane… The way his whole body went tensed the moment he saw me, like I was the threat. Like he knew exactly who I was and why that was a problem for him.I’d have never been to Ridgefield before, If he knew me, it wasn’t from here. So what the hell was Kane doing at a hospital in Ridgefield? What was his connection to that pregnant woman in the ICU?I drove back to the hotel slowly, my mind racing through so many possibilities The room was exactly the way I’d left it hours ago. Celeste’s suitcase was still sitting in the corner and the stained heels still in the position where I’d noticed it this morning.I stood in the middle of the room and looked at everything with completely different eyes.No traces of business files anywhere, nothi

Wyatt’s POV A month in California and it no longer felt temporary. I’d found an apartment, quiet, nothing impressive, close enough that I could be in the facility in twenty minutes if anything changed with her condition. Marcus was handling New York operations. My California business was moving faster. Kane properties officially has a West Coast presence now. And every morning at seven, I drove to the facility and sat beside a woman who hadn’t opened her eyes in thirty-one days. Dr. Matthews found me in the hallway that morning, his tablet in his hand. “The hemorrhage has reduced significantly.” He turned the tablet toward me and showed me the brain scans side by side. “Brain swelling is down by forty percent from when she first arrived and her neurological responses have improved over the past two weeks.” I stared at the scans, at the images that meant nothing to me. “What does that mean exactly?” “It means she is healing, Mr. Kane.” He paused. “She could wake up. Wyatt’s PovThe deal closed at nine-thirty PM on a Thursday night. The eighteen days of brutal negotiations was like a war zone. A partner was ready to walk away and take half my clients with him. Lawyers on both sides draw new lines every morning. But it held in the end, but barely. It was expensive and exhausting but it held together.I signed the final papers, shook hands with people I’d wanted to strangle just hours before and I was out the door before anybody could reopen the fight.I was on the plane to California by midnight.I started another hour of highway driving after that, my windows down with cold air hitting my face, one gas station stop. I just drove through the dark with Avery on my mind the entire way back. The facility was quiet when I arrived just after dawn. It was already another morning shift with low lighting in the corridor. A nurse carrying charts and I heard a monitor sound coming from a distance.I walked the route I’d memorized, left at the nurses’ stati
