Lahat ng Kabanata ng The Luna on a Chain: Kabanata 71 - Kabanata 80

The sun beyond the window brushed the tops of the bare trees. Nature looked gray and desolate. The cold damp seemed to seep straight into your body the moment you glanced through the thin glass.A dark Escalade approached the mansion gates. Had I not been born into a wealthy family, I might have found the attempt to impress me more meaningful. A werewolf stepped out of the car, dressed in a dark suit—elegant, but not overly formal—holding an enormous bouquet of flowers. Red roses, I assumed. For a brief moment, I thought my relatives had shared every little detail about me. It turned out they hadn’t.I was allergic to flowers. There were exceptions, but those velvety buds definitely weren’t among them. Usually, to avoid offending people who brought me bouquets, I took allergy medication. But how fortunate that with the arrival of autumn, I had stopped doing that. A sick girl would surely be left alone.I hurried out of my room, determined to reach the stairs before anyone else could i

Having indulged in a long afternoon nap, I was rewarded by evening with a splitting headache. I would have gladly stayed in my room, but Milena and Vera wouldn’t hear of it. They were clearly preparing something with far too much enthusiasm.A cool shower helped clear my head a little. I wrestled with my hair for quite some time, but in the end, I looked presentable enough.Miron was standing guard outside my room again. He gave me a thorough once-over but said nothing. That was for the best—he was already dangerously close to landing on my personal blacklist. Still, years of friendship aren’t something you can simply erase from your life.A festive table had been set in the dining room. My cheerful father fluttered around his two beloved women. Since childhood, I’d been used to seeing him strict and uncompromising, so watching him like this felt strange. Kirill and Egor were still nowhere to be seen, but Max sat on the sofa, lost in thought.“Max, why do you look so gloomy?” I asked,

KirillKirill slipped quietly out of bed, careful not to wake the woman sleeping beside him. The past three days had been calm—almost peaceful. Egor had been busy preparing for the wedding and hadn’t appeared at the house at all. As he’d explained, he wanted to give the bride some time to herself. Kirill, meanwhile, had been overwhelmed with work and hadn’t seen his sister either, even though she had asked to speak with him about something important. Perhaps it was finally time to listen. After taking a shower, the Alpha settled into his study and began sorting through paperwork. His phone rang.Security.Interesting. What could have happened?“Yes,” he answered.“Alpha, there’s a man here asking to see you. He says it’s urgent.”“A human?”“Yes.”“Let him in. Have someone escort him to my study.”Ending the call, Kirill rose and walked to the window. From there, the main gates were clearly visible. His surprise was impossible to hide when several expensive cars approached the estate

Pleasant citrus notes filled the room. Drawing in that familiar scent, I caught a light touch of jasmine and spices. It smelled unmistakably familiar and utterly unique. My eyes flew open, and a smile touched my lips. On the bedside table stood my white flower—the only one I wasn’t allergic to. My eyes welled with tears. Had it all been a dream? Everything that had happened recently felt so unreal, so distant. But the IV drip and the unpleasant heaviness in my body reminded me that none of it was a dream.Dawn was breaking outside the window. Sunlight streamed into the room through the enormous glass panes. Silence and peace reigned all around.A man stepped lightly into the room and mirrored my smile when he noticed me.“How are you feeling?” he asked, his velvety voice slipping straight into my soul every time.“Great,” I answered—not quite honestly.I wanted to feel well beside him. Propping myself up in bed, I watched him. Ares slipped on his shirt and began straightening it.“The

“And how long are you planning to sleep?” an indignant voice cut through my dreams. My eyes stubbornly refused to open. I had to make a serious effort to force them apart. An angry Avrora was standing across from the bed. “One sleepless night is not a reason to sleep until evening,” the woman grumbled again. “Good morning,” I drawled, opening my mouth in a wide yawn. “It’s noon. What morning?” In the silence, the sharp tapping of a heel against the floor became clearly audible. Avrora was irritated—and visibly angry. No excuses would work on her right now. Ares was no longer beside me, but his scent lingered everywhere, a reminder of the night we’d shared. I got out of bed and sleepily stretched my arms upward, easing my stiff muscles. Avrora handed me a box containing a brand-new phone. “What’s this?” I stared at her stupidly. “Ares asked me to buy you a new one. He said to call him as soon as you pick up your things from your brother’s house.” Unpacking the phone took only
