Chapter 1

I, Maya Ortega, stared blankly at the cheap metal bangle on the couch. Not just because it was utterly lacking in sincerity, but because that day was the pack's most important Christmas Eve.I had told Alpha Ethan Warner that I hoped to receive a moonstone from the Moon Goddess forest, as even a very small piece could enhance my healing abilities as a healer.Earlier that day, I had clearly mentioned to him that I felt my wolf, Selene, was a bit weak lately and needed the energy of a moonstone. After placing the herbs prepared for the wounded on the table, I took off my blood-stained medical robe."Maya, we've already been mates for so long, and you're a powerful Luna. You don't need expensive magical items to maintain our bond as those young she-wolves do."Alpha Ethan hugged me from behind and casually tousled my hair."Going to the forbidden grounds to seek a moonstone from the witch is too risky, and it's not fitting for an Alpha. Besides, this bangle carries the same sentime

Reading those words, I felt as if all the blood in my body had frozen solid.I trembled as I typed out, "How come?"The she-wolf on the other end seemed to have found an outlet for venting and replied with lightning speed, "That old she-wolf is nothing but a workaholic, completely consumed by her duties and endlessly tending to patients. She's utterly devoid of any feminine charm."If she found out that her mate has me, she'd definitely go crazy. After all, how could someone as image-conscious and work-obsessed as her bear to see her own mate fall in love with someone else?"Moreover, I'm the orphan she and her mate rescued together from Rogues. If that crazy she-wolf knew, she'd surely want to kill me."My brows suddenly twitched. No combat ability, orphan rescued together—everything matched too perfectly.I still wanted to ask more, but another message arrived instantly from the other side."Enough talking. It's thundering outside, and I'm scared. So, I'm going to ask him to

"It's been a long time since I've visited the training grounds, so I thought I'd come check out the new generation of warriors," I replied.Alpha Ethan didn't notice my red and swollen eyes, or perhaps he simply didn't care.Last night, I sat by the fireplace with my knees hugged to my chest for the entire night. My tears had long since dried up, and I was relieved that seeing him now wouldn't make me break down again.Mr. Ramirez patted my shoulder and said in a tone tinged with nostalgia, "It's good to come back to the training grounds. You and Alpha Ethan are legends in our pack. They still teach your tactical strategies to the new recruits."Since you're here, why not let Alpha Ethan show you around? I'll get going for now."With that, he tactfully took his leave. Now, it was just Alpha Ethan and me. He hesitated for a moment, then seemed about to turn and leave.I asked, "Aren't you going to show me around? It's been many years since I've been here. I hardly recognize the p

When I returned to the pack house that evening, my phone buzzed again. I glanced at it—it was still the same private message interface.I knew that the she-wolf on the other end was Ivy, since she wasn't even trying to hide it."I had a close call today when I ran into his mate."Suppressing my disgust, I asked, "Did she figure out your relationship?""How could she possibly notice? She's blind and clueless, with nothing but the title of a healer. She only knows how to fuss over herbs all day long. Even if she did figure it out, what could she do?"She was gloating, as if showing off her spoils."I'm the one he loves. Not to mention, he's wanted to reject his mate for a long time."I hesitated, my fingers hovering over the screen for a long time."He loves you that much?""Of course. I'll let you in on a secret—I've already given myself to him. Do you know why they have been mates for many years without pups? It's because he adds wolfsbane extract to the nutrient drink she tak

The werewolves in the plaza holding the flyers were stunned by the photos and text printed on them, especially the blood test report. To poison one's own mate was a grave crime in werewolf society, an act condemned by every pack.Just then, the two werewolves featured on the flyers happened to pass by and looked toward me. Instead of avoiding them, I walked straight up and handed them two flyers."Everyone, don't miss the disgrace of the Shadow Fang pack. Here's evidence of Alpha Ethan's affair with the rescued Omega, Ivy!"The moment Ivy saw the content of the flyers, her face turned pale with fright. She then covered her face and ran off in tears.Alpha Ethan's expression turned as black as thunder, and the Alpha aura began to radiate from him uncontrollably."Maya, have you lost your mind? Come with me, now!""But I haven't finished distributing these yet, so I'm not going anywhere," I replied flatly, ignoring his Alpha aura as I continued handing flyers to anyone who passed

Chapter 6

"You know that's not what I meant," Alpha Ethan said."But that's exactly how I understand it," I retorted.Looking at the he-wolf before me, I felt only an unbearable sense of unfamiliarity.I turned away and left without looking back. The wind along the way was biting. Shivering with cold, I walked until I reached the river at the border, a place where no one knew me. Only then did I dare to gasp heavily for air and brace myself against a tree trunk as I sank into a crouch."I brought this on myself," I muttered aloud to myself. "Mom died a horrible death because she trusted a he-wolf, yet I still chose to trust one and to believe in the so-called mate bond. It was my own fault for taking Ivy in and ending up like this."I laughed while crying, the words coming out between tears that wouldn't stop. That evening, Alpha Ethan brought Ivy to the pack house. But I wasn't the least bit surprised. He immediately confronted me after storming in. "Maya, you owe Ivy an apology. She's

Chapter 7

The words gave Alpha Ethan pause. After a moment, his eyes hardened with determination.Ivy stopped sobbing abruptly and cried out in panic, "Alpha Ethan, you mustn't agree to her demands. Without the protection of an Alpha, I'll be bullied to death in the pack. Alpha Ethan, you might be a mature, steady, and powerful he-wolf."But I'm still just a student. If I really drop out, what will become of me in the future? I'm begging you, please don't do it."She cried until she was gasping for breath. Though it seemed like she was pleading for mercy, every word she spoke was actually calculated for her own benefit.Mistaking the pained concern on her face for worry about him, Alpha Ethan then turned and offered me a firm nod."Maya, let's do as you say. I'll resign and reject the mate bond with you, and you'll publicly clarify that Ivy's innocent.""It's a deal."At this moment, my heart was perfectly calm.Upon hearing this, Alpha Ethan took Ivy by the hand and turned to leave.I

The next day, werewolves sent by Hunter showed up at her door.Even though Ethan had already stepped down and was no longer the Alpha, he was still living in a small cabin on the outskirts of the pack.I also upheld my end of the bargain by publicly clearing Ivy's name, stating that she was a victim too and that Ethan had coerced her under the abuse of his authority. In the end, she somehow continued to study in the Werewolf Academy. But after all that, she became an object of pity among her classmates, while Ethan turned into the universally condemned scumbag."I never imagined the former Alpha Ethan was such a werewolf. I used to think he was a hero.""Exactly. To first prey on those he helped, and then turn on his own mate with poison? That's pure evil."Whenever Ivy overheard such discussions among her classmates, she would shed tears. For a while, it seemed the matter was settled.Yet, she never expected her creditors would come looking for her.Ethan was escorting Ivy to

"You can't just throw accusations around without proof!" Ethan's eyes flew wide open, the veins bulging out of his neck. He clearly couldn't believe that the she-wolf he loved could be this kind of werewolf."This is slander, you understand? We can appeal to the council, and the newly appointed Alpha will have you driven out!"Ethan tried to pull Ivy toward the car to escape, but she was rooted to the spot, her legs refusing to obey out of sheer terror."Drive us out? Go ahead and try! We've got videos of her back then and records of her debts right here!" the lead Rogue said, waving an old phone tauntingly. "You cheap piece of trash! Stop acting all innocent! Looks like you're the one who's about to be driven out.""What do you want? How much money exactly do you want? I'll give you anything—just stop forcing me like this!" Ivy screamed hysterically."Forcing you?" A Rogue stepped forward and slapped Ivy hard across the face. "Did you think twice before drugging us to steal our s
