“You have no idea where you’re going, do you?” he asked. “You’ve got the suitcase packed and by the door, but you have no clue where you’re off to next.” He narrowed his eyes at her. “Let me guess. The plan is to get to the station, and take the first fucking bus or train leaving Colorado. Is that right?”Kat avoided his stare, trying not to let him see that he was bang on. But he knew.“Yeah, I thought so.” He moved closer to her again. “What are you running from?”“I can’t tell you.”“Are you a criminal? Did you kill someone? Rob a bank? What?”“No.” She looked shocked. “No. I didn’t do anything wrong.”He heard the inflection in her words. “So who did?”She pressed her lips together, to stop herself from saying any more.Jim studied her, and sighed. “OK, fine. Don’t tell me today. But I’m not leaving this apartment until you do tell me.”Kat glared at him. “No way. Get out.”“Nope. I know the second my back is turned, you’ll run for the hills. That’s not happening.”“Get out!”“Mak

Chris tugged her up, her gorgeous body still warm and pink from the bath. She was so close now, close enough that he could touch her slick folds with the tip of his tongue if he wanted; he could suck her clit gently if he made a small move forward. But no matter how much he longed to do both of these things – and more – he had to be certain that she was OK with this. He knew he could make it good for her, knew he could have her shaking and crying out with an explosive release… if she really wanted it.“Jenny?”She knew what he was really asking, and she smiled.“Yes,” she said, and lowered herself onto his mouth. “Yes.”Chris closed his eyes at the very first taste of her. Goddamn, she was perfect: sweet and hot and all his. He started slowly, running his tongue up and down her pussy, lapping at her wet arousal, letting her get used to the intense sensations. His hands were on her ass, slowly moving her against his lips, guiding her, helping her.Jenny gasped in surprise at the shock

The next morning, Dean and Dallas stood on their respective front porches, clutching their cups of coffee. They sipped and chatted, but neither man really talked about what was on his mind.Despite the fact that he trusted Dallas with his life – and he had done exactly that in Afghanistan, and more than once – Dean didn’t breathe one word to his friend about Emma’s remission. He thought it best for her to tell their friends when she was happy about it. To tell anyone before she was ready seemed to him to be a massive betrayal. On Dallas’ side, he was worried about Olivia. Yeah, in so many ways she was doing better than anyone could have hoped. This was a woman who’d been a famous model, lauded for her perfect face and body, splashed across the covers of men’s magazines in little more than a bikini or a thong. This same woman was now covered in scars: on her cheek, her stomach, her hips, her breasts. Her modeling career had crashed and burned, she’d had to sell her house, she’d had to

“He’s a cop now.” Kat set down her beer on the coffee table with shaking hands. “He’s a sheriff, actually, last I heard.”“Who did you hear it from?” Dallas said. “Who gave you that information?”She hesitated. “A – a woman. She works with him.”“She’s a cop too?”“No. No, she’s more of a clerk. She works at the police station, but she’s more administrative. Sends the cars out, takes care of reports, handles some HR and court stuff.”“And she’s the one who told you that he’s still looking for you?” Dallas asked. She jumped. “How did you know that?”“Lucky guess, hon. I’ve been in the security business for a while now, and I know how to put the pieces together.”“You have to promise me that you won’t do anything to put her at risk!” Kat’s voice rose, and they could practically see the panic working its way up her body. “If he ever found out that she helped me, he’d kill her!”“OK, whoa.” Chris held up his hands. “Slow down. Nobody’s doing anything to put anyone at risk. Just talk to us

“That’s one solution,” Kat said coolly. “But maybe not the best one, huh?”“So… you think that running for the rest of your life is the best solution?” Jim said. “Really?”“Yes.” She met his stare. “I do.”“You said you’d give us a chance to convince you that we can keep you safe,” Jim said, the anger coming through strong and clear in his voice. “You going to do that, or will you be leaving now?”“Jim,” Dean said quietly. “Back off, man.”“No way,” Jim snapped. “It sounds to me like her mind’s made up. I don’t think we’re even going to get a chance to plead our case.” He turned to Kat. “Are we?”She stared at him, then slowly shook her head.“Well, fine.” Jim shrugged. “If you want to keep running forever, go on. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, sweetheart.”“Jim!” Chris glared at him.“What?” Jim glared back. “Look at us, Kat, just look at who’s standing here in front of you… never again will you be surrounded by three trained Rangers and a crack shot sniper, wh
