The next morning, there was loud knocking on Aiden's cabin door. Grace was still in bed. Aiden answered it."Mother. Father." His voice sounded tired. Not happy.Grace sat up. She heard voices. A woman's voice. Sharp. Cold."Where is she? Where is this girl who claims she can't remember anything?"Grace quickly got out of bed. She smoothed her hair. Walked to the living room. Two people stood there. An older man in an expensive suit. Gray hair. Hard eyes. And a woman. Thin. Perfect makeup. Designer clothes. Her face looked like she'd never smiled in her life."Grace," Aiden said stiffly. "These are my parents. Richard and Catherine Hartwell."Catherine looked Grace up and down. Her lip curled. Like Grace was something dirty on her shoe."So this is her.""Hello," Grace said softly. "It's nice to meet you."Catherine didn't respond. She just stared. Cold. Judging. Then she turned to Aiden. "Where's Mason? We need to speak with him.""He's in his cabin," Aiden said."Good. Come, Richard

Aiden was alone on the cabin porch when his father appeared."Hey Aiden. Walk with me."It wasn't a request. Richard Hartwell doesn't make requests.Aiden didn't waste time he stood up and they walked toward the woods."Your mother and I need to talk to you about Grace.""What about her?""This needs to stop. The whole thing. Send her back to Mason."Aiden kept walking. "She has amnesia. She doesn't remember him.""I don't care." Richard stopped walking. "End it.""Why?""Because I'm telling you to. That's why."Aiden turned to face him. "Dad, Grace is confused. She needs help.""She needs to go back to her husband. Where she belongs.""She thinks I'm her husband.""Then tell her the truth." Richard's voice got hard. "Tell her you lied. Tell her Mason is her real husband. Tell her whatever you need to tell her. Just end this.""I can't do that.""Yes you can. And you will."Aiden shook his head. "Mason asked me to do this. He wanted time with Sophia. I'm just helping him.""You've hel

New Year's Eve. The resort was decorated with gold and silver. Everyone dressed up for the big party in the main ballroom.Grace wore a simple black dress. Elegant but not flashy. Aiden wore a dark suit. They walked in together.Mason and Sophia were already there. Sophia wore a tight red dress that showed everything. Mason's hand was on her waist."Grace! Aiden!" Sophia called out. "Come sit with us!"They had no choice. They sat at Sophia's table."This is so exciting," Sophia said. Her smile was too big. Too bright. "New Year's Eve! New beginnings!""Yeah," Grace said quietly."I planned something fun for tonight. A game!"Mason looked at her. "What kind of game?""A memory game! To help Grace remember things." Sophia pulled out her phone. "I have photos. Videos. From college. From our friendship. Maybe it'll trigger something."Grace's stomach dropped. But she kept her face blank. Confused."Is that okay, Grace?" Sophia asked sweetly. "Would you like to try?""I... I guess so. If

The ambulance arrived. Paramedics rushed Mason onto a stretcher. He was conscious now but dazed. Blood everywhere.Sophia climbed into the ambulance with him. Crying. Hysterical. The doors slammed shut. Sirens wailed as it drove away.Grace stood in the ballroom. Frozen. Everyone was staring at her. Whispering. Then Catherine Hartwell pushed through the crowd. Her face was twisted with rage."YOU." She pointed at Grace. "This is YOUR fault!"Grace stepped back. "I didn't—""Don't speak!" Catherine's voice cut through the room. "My son is bleeding because of YOU!""Mrs. Hartwell, I didn't do anything—""You've done EVERYTHING!" Catherine moved closer. "Ever since you came into this family, you've been nothing but trouble. And now? Now you've poisoned Aiden against his own brother!""That's not true—""Mason is in an ambulance because of you! Because you couldn't just stay where you belonged! You had to play your little amnesia game and turn Aiden against his family!"Richard appeared b

No, I'll handle it... Give me an hour."He came back inside. "I have to go to the main office. Business stuff. Will you be okay alone for a bit?""I'll be fine," Grace said."Lock the door. Don't open it for anyone except me or your friends.""I will."Aiden left.Grace waited a few minutes. Then she texted Emma and Rachel."Come now. Aiden's gone."They arrived ten minutes later.Rachel had her laptop. Emma had coffee."Okay," Rachel said, sitting down. "Let's talk strategy."They spent an hour going over everything. The evidence. The timeline. The plan. When they finished, Emma hugged Grace. "You've got this.""I hope so.""You do. Just stick to the plan."They left through the back door. Just as Aiden was coming back through the front.Grace was sitting on the couch when he walked in."Everything okay?"
