“What was the fight about?” The Old woman asked.Tyler ran a finger through the line of his nose with his eyes closed. “It was nothing serious.”“The poor girl has had her mood down for days. Tell me what’s wrong.” His mother pushed forward. He exhaled deeply, “It is private.”“Your privacy is mine. We are family.”Tyler wanted nothing more than to avoid this conversation with his mother.“We will resolve it privately. I have it handled.”“I hope you know this is not some contract you need to seal? This is your wife. You need to handle her with care. I have noticed her health is not in the best condition.”Tyler’s lips separated, and for a moment he considered just blurting about his wife’s desire for a divorce, but he clamped his lips shut. There was no need to get into the gory details yet.He wasn’t ready to let her go. He would never be able to let her go. He was willing and ready to prove himself to her as many times as possible.Kennedy would not leave him, he repeated in his hea

The room remained in silence. Kennedy blinked repeatedly.Joan waved at a waiter who immediately approached her. She maintained her composure as she placed her order.“I was only trying to help,” Kennedy whispered.Joan’s face softened for a moment. She knew that she had no right to use such words as leverage towards Kennedy. While they weren’t friends, they were never mortal enemies. They were just two women who had unfortunately found themselves caught up in the drama of their families.“I understand,” she finally sighed. “I just get overprotective of anything or to anyone that seems to threaten my relationship. My brain did not fully process your words, it just ran into a spiral because the thought of him with another girl meant he was tired of waiting for me.”She didn’t mention the much larger lingering fear that he was never waiting in the first place. That would only make her seem stupider. This was not the time to be vulnerable.“However,” she continued, “I had no right to use

Tyler walked into a silent household. Looking around, he noticed there was not a single person in sight. Even the home workers had headed off to bed. He took a quick glance at the gigantic walk clock.“Thirty seven minutes past two,” he read out in a deep voice. He could already feel his eyes growing heavier, and his shoulders weakening. His back ached, and his head continually drummed. His stomach grumbled, but he headed up the stairs nonetheless. As he approached his room, memories flooded his mind of the days when Kennedy would be up waiting for him. She loved them having dinner together. He would give the world to return back to those days…Why did he let that go? Why did he take those days for granted? She had done everything she could just so he would be comfortable and satisfied with their marriage, but he only discarded it.He took off the cuff links from his wrist. As he did, he made a mental note to pay his mother a visit the next day. He knew she would already read too much

“You’re just a pathetic piece of shit.” Brenda spat.Kennedy turned around. She had let Brenda misuse her opportunities and embarrass her, but she wouldn’t be called names.“Watch your tongue, Brenda.” She warned. The tension in her forehead had a vein popping. Tyler was already stressing her out, and she would not have his mistress worsen it.“Else what?” She crossed her arms over her chest.“Watch your tongue. That’s all I’ll say.” She clenched her fingers.Kennedy knew she wasn’t one to throw hands, but she desperately wanted to smack Brenda right across her face.“What do you expect me to say when you’ve reopened your claws into him? You won’t let him leave a marriage he is obviously not comfortable with. You’ve bewitched him.”Kennedy laughed out at Brenda’s words. “Please don’t tell me you actually believe that.”Brenda remained silent.“You’ve accused me of baby trapping him.” She counted her fingers. “You’ve accused me of blackmail, and now you’ve accused me of bewitching him.

As Kennedy picked up her bag, Vincent settled the bill with the waiter.A deeper part of her was excited that Tyler had proven him wrong, but another side of her had wondered what would have happened if he had come. Would he have cared that she was out with another man? Or would he be nonchalant? Moreover he already had Brenda. He seemed to care for her. Why wouldn’t she be allowed to care for another man?“Thank you for today. Coming out makes me feel better.” She thanked him.“It’s no big deal.” He answered.“I do hope you’ve made your mind on the decision you want to make?”“I have. Leaving is best. This was just a contract after all, it’s time for me to leave.”“Alright. I am sure you will pull through this, and I will definitely be here to help. You’re not alone.”“Thank you.”He spread his arms, and despite the fact that she wasn’t entirely welcomed to the idea, she leaned in for a hug.Just as her skin touched his, the door opened and Tyler walked in.Fuck.She pulled away, but
