My fingers slipped into his hair almost instinctively, threading through the soft strands as I looked down at him properly. "You look tired, Adrian," I said, leaning a bit closer. "You really should take it easy sometimes." He let out a short, dry breath that was supposed to be a laugh, but it didn't reach his eyes. "I’m not tired, Amelia." I sighed, pulling back just enough to force him to meet my gaze. I wasn't going to let him retreat behind that wall of stone tonight. "Adrian, you know it’s okay to be tired, right? You’re human. Not a machine." Before I could get another word out, he moved. He silenced me with a kiss, deep, sudden, and tasting faintly of the wine he’d been sipping. It was a classic Adrian move, a beautiful distraction. I giggled against his lips and I pulled away just enough to catch my breath. "I’m serious," I insisted. He didn't stop.
