Chapter 1

As I flipped through the nearly worn-out "Companion Wolf Care Manual", rubbing my temples, Liam Holden eyed me warily from the bed.I'd had him for a week.Liam wasn't at all like the companion wolf advertisements claimed, trying to please their owners or doing whatever they asked. He wouldn't even let me touch him, even though he had grown so weak from going so long without a companion's scent and looked like he could collapse at any moment.I watched as his gray tail thumped loudly against the bed.The manual said that a tail wagging fast, with fur puffed out, was a sign that Liam's heat was approaching. During this period, wolves needed their owner's comfort the most.My throat tightened, and I moved closer to him, my left hand brushing lightly over the wolf marking.I coaxed him in a low voice, "Doesn't it hurt? Do you want me to help you?"A flash of confusion passed through Liam's dark pupils, and a muffled growl escaped his throat. At some point, his tail had wrapped its

The original poster had created the account three days ago.It was well known that companion wolves were genetically modified to be extremely loyal to their owners, so the sudden appearance of a wolf that betrayed its owner quickly drew a crowd. "Is this true? If so, your owner is really unlucky. After buying a wolf, it falls in love with someone else.""Don't embarrass us companion wolves, okay? I can't get enough of loving my owner every day, yet you dared to betray yours. Where are you? I feel like clawing at your face."The poster ignored all the insults and stayed immersed in his own world."I only have one suppressant left. If I can't complete the bond with Lilian, I'd rather kill myself."Every companion wolf was given seven heat suppressants when they left the breeding center. It wasn't that they couldn't make more, but that suppressants caused great harm to the wolves. Each injection shortened their lifespan by a year, and seven was the maximum number of injections a w

"Lilian… May I call you that?" Liam asked shyly.Lilian lightly scratched under his chin, and Liam immediately let out an affectionate purr. She smiled provocatively at me and said, "Evelyn, your wolf seems to like me more."He looks like he hasn't replenished his energy in days. He's so weak that it pains me to watch. Tell me, Liam—why won't you accept Evelyn's soothing?"Liam gazed up at Lilian, mesmerized. He glanced quickly at me, then spoke in a voice so low only the two of them could hear."I only want Ms. Lilian's soothing and bond. Just looking at Evelyn makes me sick."Unfortunately for him, I could read lips.Lilian's smile grew more smug. "Evelyn, how about I help you nourish him? Don't waste all that effort raising him just to watch him waste away."With that, she started to lead Liam inside the room.I blocked her way. "Did I say you could go in?"Before Lilian could respond, Liam got agitated and snapped, "Lilian can come in."His voice was hoarse, and his move

I looked at the new companion wolf pressed tightly against me, radiating a powerful presence. His crimson eyes held an undisguised possessiveness toward me, as well as a hint of contempt for the "defective product".It was a stark contrast to Liam's weak but stubborn demeanor. He had even called Liam a "defective product", as naturally as if stating a fact. The air in the living room seemed to freeze. The color drained from Liam's face. He stared in disbelief at the new wolf whose arm was wrapped around my waist, then looked at me. His lips quivered, but no sound came out.He was still wearing the expensive suit I had bought him, but now it looked utterly absurd.Liam hadn't let me touch him for an entire week, and now—against another stronger and more submissive one of his kind—he had become as insignificant as dust on the ground.Lilian was stunned too, and the smug, satisfied look on her face froze, twisting into indignant anger. She suddenly stood up from Liam's lap and sa

I paused, watching Liam's pupils contract sharply before continuing, "That piece of venison jerky from Lilian was more appealing to you than a 100 thousand-dollar energy potion, right?"Liam froze completely. He looked at Lilian, pleading for help.Lilian forced herself to stay calm. Then, she took Liam's arm, trying to reassure both him and herself."Evelyn, why do you have to be like this? Liam is just following his heart! Love doesn't follow logic!"He loves me, and I love him. What's wrong with that? It's just money. We'll pay you back!""Pay me back?" I laughed as if I'd heard the biggest joke. "What are you going to pay me back with? That dress you're wearing, your monthly allowance, even the house you live in—which of these isn't from my family?"Even the kingdom itself bears my mother's name of Windsor. You and your mother are nothing but leeches and mistresses who live off the Windsor family!"Lilian's face turned pale, then flushed with anger. What she hated most was w

In the recording, Lilian's voice was full of scorn and disdain. It was a completely different person from the one who had been going on about "true love" and "being together despite homelessness".Liam's body gave a violent jolt, and he looked at Lilian in disbelief.Lilian's face went white as she lunged for the digital tablet. "You're lying! That's fake! This is a setup!"Kane blocked her, lightly shoving her away, his gaze cold.I ignored her and opened a few more videos and photos. There were pictures of Lilian hugging and kissing different wolves, all around the time she was supposedly "really in love" with Liam. There was footage of her tossing Liam's favorite blue crystal—one I had custom-ordered—into a fountain. There was also a recording of her and Sierra plotting how to use Liam to provoke me, pushing me to snap so Father could take back my position as princess."That can't be true…" Liam muttered to himself, his voice broken. He looked at Lilian, his eyes filled wi

Chapter 7

I opened the door and signed the paperwork.I watched as the staff member fitted Liam, still vacant-eyed, with a silver suppressor collar and took him out of my house.Liam never once looked at Lilian or me again. His fate had been sealed from the moment he was deemed a "defective product".As for Lilian, I called the guards and had them escort the trespasser out. Two guards expressionlessly dragged the crying, struggling Lilian away. Her suitcase was also tossed out after her.Her pleas and curses faded away before disappearing down the corridor. It was finally peaceful again.I closed the door, shutting out all the noise from outside. When I turned around, I saw Kane looking at me with a smile. My reflection appeared in those alluring, crimson eyes—ones that brimmed with pure, unhidden desire and loyalty."Those annoyances are gone," Kane said, walking over and pulling me back into his arms. His tail was wagging gently in contentment."Now, you belong to me alone."I rest
