TARA“Baby? Hey.”“I can’t hear you, Mad.” There was loud music and noise in the background. “What?” Olive asked as I stared at her, realizing that he might be at the club or at the party, the very same reason why he was in this position. I guessed he would never learn. I was slightly disappointed with him.“Baby, give me a minute.” He held my call.I was about to go into that room where my future would be put on hold as I surrendered my life to God and entrusted it to the doctors, and he was there partying. It was the sense of betrayal that rocked my mind to my very core that I had to end the call. My chest constricted as I texted him.TARA: Have fun. Disheartened, I turned off my phone and put on a good smile at my parents and Olive. “I think I’m ready.”Deep inside, I wasn’t ready. I wouldn’t be ready. I was terrified that it might fail. I was terrified that there might be complications during the procedure, but the most terrifying thing was not getting pregnant again.Mom hugge

MADAll of a sudden, I felt a vibration in my pocket. I looked at the dancer. “If you leave me now, I’ll give you all another bonus.”She winked at me and left.I fished out my phone, and it was indeed Tara.I answered the call. “Baby? Hey.”“I can’t hear you.” Fuck. The music was too loud. She must have been thinking was at the club partying while she was about to undergo surgery.“Baby, give me a minute.” I took a deep breath, gesturing at Nites, holding the call.“Sir?” He came right away.“Fine me the backdoor exit.” I slid off the stool and stood up. “Hurry up.”“Sir, right here.” He gestured at the door beside the bar.I followed him through the door. Before I could resume the call, Tara just hung up. “Fuck.”I called her back as soon as I got out of the bar. I was standing in the alley, waiting for Tara to pick up, but her number was out of reach. I tried not to think that she was pissed at me.With my stomach twisting with dread, I redialed her number while pacing in a stinky

TARA“Yes. We paid him a visit.”I stared at my father, shuddering as the dread rippled through me. “Let me guess. He hates me even more and continues lying to you.”“No, sweetheart,” Mom said, sighing heavily. “He wants to talk to you. I told him, you’re not feeling well.”“Did you tell him I was in the hospital? Because I have a strong feeling he and his fiancée were the ones who talked about my miscarriage at the polo match. So, what does he want from me?”“Then talk to him,” Dad replied, and didn’t look surprised at my response. “But I told him he’s not in a position to make a request.”I met Dad’s gaze. “Not when I’m like this. Do you think Sarah and Revier know that something’s going on with Valentine?”“Yes. She came looking for him. I’m sure she and Revier are talking.” Mom came to my side, tucking the strands of my hair behind my ear. “You should call Mad, sweetheart.”I forced my smile out. “When he gets home. How’s Val doing, by the way?”Mom looked at my Dad. There was som

MADIt fucking hurt. Despite the flicker of excitement in her eyes, I still felt shattered, destroyed by her rejection. Although it shouldn’t, because I was confident that she still loved me. Love wouldn’t just fade overnight. But I couldn’t ignore the fact that she was still upset with me.I watched her walk away with Isaac, never turning for me even once. Something irrational twisted inside me, fueled by her rejection, and my heart still beat heavily for her.“So, how did it go?”I inwardly groaned at Logan standing beside me. I was glad he didn’t see my humiliation in front of his son.“She’s more excited to see Isaac, took him with her, and never acknowledged my return.” It wasn’t true. She did say welcome back, but I wanted more.“You’re too irrational.” He slapped my chest with the back of his hand. “But it stings, doesn’t it?” He walked away from me as if he knew where to go.“Where are you going?” I asked. “I wanna say hi to the princess, and I can’t wait to watch you squirm.

TARAGod, what’s wrong with me?Was this even healthy? One moment, I was angry and jealous. The second I heard what I wanted to hear, I was clinging to him and kissing him like the world was about to end.But I had no regrets. I loved this man more than anything, and my plan with Olive was still going to happen. I wanted to know how someone like Mad Shanewood got jealous because the feeling was definitely not pleasant.“Let me get this straight. You gave the strippers extra money so that they would not touch you?” I squinted my eyes to read his expression, but I saw no guilt, but amusement. “Why is that? You didn’t wanna be caught on camera that you were having a hard on?”He looked at me intensely, almost burning a hole in my brain. “I just realized it was a bad idea. Maybe I should just let them film me. The more I explain and tell you the truth, the more you want to get it twisted.” He slightly spanked me on the ass. All of a sudden, he froze and looked guiltier. “Fuck. Baby, I’m
