~ Camelia POV ~Becca’s mouth parted slightly. "Wow, Camelia," she muttered in awe, nudging my elbow. "Who is he?""I don't know," I answered softly, staring at the man in curiosity. The man stopped a couple of feet away from us and bowed his head slightly. "Good evening, Miss Stewart. Mr. Stone asked me to take you home since he had an urgent matter to handle and couldn't drive you himself."I blinked, my throat tightening. "Oh. Thank you, but—""Actually," Becca cut in before I could finish my sentence. She stepped right up beside me, giving the driver a bright smile. "We're not going home just yet. We're heading out for dinner at a restaurant downtown. We would really appreciate it if you could drop us off there instead."I turned my head sharply, staring at her in shock. "Becca, what about the cab you just ordered?" I whispered. She didn't even look at me. She just waved her hand. "Don't worry about it, Cam. I'll just open the app and cancel the ride right now."The driver nodded

~ Camelia POV ~I brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear as I stepped out of the car, turning to the driver who had come around to open the door for me."Thank you for the ride," I said softly. "Tell Mr. Stone I said thank you."He nodded before walking back to the vehicle. My gaze lingered on the driveway as I stared at the house, trying to brush off what Anya had said to me earlier. She didn't have a hold over my happiness. Becca had spent the entire car ride making sure I didn't forget that, right up until the driver dropped her off at the curb in front of Jerry's house. I let out a soft breath to calm my racing thoughts before walking toward the keypad. I punched in my passcode and stepped into the dark house. The living room was completely quiet, reminding me of how Becca usually kept the place lively with her constant gist. Now, I was left entirely alone with my thoughts.I dropped my bag on the table in front of me and sank into the couch, resting my head against the cush

~ Camelia POV ~A soft gasp escaped my lips. My heart beat so loud and fast against my ribs I was sure the thumping vibrated right through his shirt. Luke wrapped his strong arms around my waist, trapping me flat against him. His eyes were still half-closed, but our faces were so close I could feel the warm, steady rush of his breath against my skin.“Luke... I need to leave,” I whispered, my palms pressing against his shoulders as I tried to push myself up. I forced my eyes to look at the headboard, warning myself not to glance at his lips or notice how solid his chest felt beneath me.He didn’t answer with words. When I finally looked down, his dark eyes were wide open, staring straight into mine. He released one hand from my waist, lifting it slowly to tuck a loose strand of my hair behind my ear. Before I could use the freedom to slide off the bed, his fingers tangled deep in the back of my hair. He tilted my head down, closing the remaining distance until his lips pressed firmly

~ Asher POV ~I took a long drag from the cigarette in my hand, exhaling the smoke into the air. On any normal day, I would have relaxed and enjoyed the quiet moment, but all it did now was make the fire burning in my chest burn even hotter.I tapped the loose ash into the steel tray on the table, grinding the glowing tip against the metal until the spark died. I tossed the cigarette butt aside, but nothing I did could clear the anger from my mind.I had truly believed that whatever Luke and Camelia were doing was just a game. A fake engagement to get our parents off his back and stop them from forcing him to marry Gwen. But yesterday changed everything. I had been walking down the hall when I overheard their quiet conversation through the door. The words had been stuck in my head ever since, repeating on a loop.I stood from the couch and marched over to the floor-to-ceiling window, staring out at the gray New York skyline. My hands balled into tight fists, my knuckles turning white.

~ Asher POV ~"What do you want?" I asked, pissed that Luke had ruined the moment just when I had gotten started. He walked into the office. His eyes drifted to the files on the floor, the ones I had brushed off the desk. He stared at the mess, his face tightening as if he suspected something had happened."You didn't come to inspect me, did you?" I asked. He looked up from the floor. "What the hell are you doing that files are on the floor?" He took a step toward me. "Do you have a girl in this office?""Do I have to answer that?" I leaned back against the edge of my desk."Yes," he said with a grunt. "This is a company, Asher. If you want to sleep with women, don't do it here.""So, you came to lecture me?" I scoffed, turning my face away from him."Mira told me Camelia was here because she wasn't at her office. That's why I came," he answered, his gaze moving away from me to scan the corners of the room."She's not here," I said. My hand rested at my side, my fingers clenching into
