Valerie's POV. The second day of my punishment started terribly, my alarm had gone off, I had even set it to earlier than the previous day and yet somehow, I had slept through it."Oh no." I gasped, sitting up so quickly that my blanket fell to the floor.I grabbed my phone and checked the time again, it was some minutes past eight, I should be at Vicious's doorstep by exactly eight, and now it's past that and I haven't even brushed. What a horrible day it's going to be. Immediately, I jumped out of bed and rushed into the bathroom, Clara wasn't home yet, at least that was one less problem. I brushed my teeth as quickly as I could, washed my face, pulled on the first decent outfit I could find, and hurried out of the room.I barely had time to fix my hair, I didn't even bother checking properly, I just simply tied it back and ran.My punishment had only lasted one day, and I was already failing at it; Vicious was definitely going to send me back to detention, and I wasn't about to

Valerie's POV. "Good morning." I greeted as soon as Vicious opened the gate, he was wearing a simple dark shirt and loose sweatpants, his hair slightly messy as though he hadn't bothered doing much with it this morning. He simply nodded at me, nothing else, no greeting in return, or comment about whether I was early or late. He turned around and walked back inside. "Good morning to you too, jerk." I mumbled under my breath, rolling my eyes. He never misses an opportunity to be rude. As soon as I entered the living room, I heard laughter, then I saw Connor and Vicious sitting on the couch, with a game controller in each hand, completely absorbed in the video game playing on the big television mounted on the wall. Connor looked up first, the moment he saw me, his entire face brightened. "Valerie!"I couldn't help but smile. "Good morning.""Pleasant morning to you too, did you sleep well?" I nodded at him in response."Come sit with us." He offered, shifting slightly to create so

Valerie's POV."You're joking."Naomi stared at me as though I had just told her the most impossible lie.She grabbed my arm as we continued walking. "Valerie, you have to start from the beginning.""Naomi, please." I bursted out laughing."Yes, because I feel like there might be more, I haven't seen you properly in days. Every time I look for you after class, you're either gone, you're rushing somewhere, or you're with that irritating man.""What irritating man?""Vicious.""He's not irritating." I blurted before I even realized it.Naomi's eyes widened. "Excuse me?""I mean... He's irritating, very irritating." I immediately corrected myself."That's what I thought."She started walking again."I still can't imagine you serving him.""It's been terrible Naomi, believe me." I sighed. "Ofcourse it would be, you're serving Vicious of all people.""But it's been bearable since Connor returned.""Vicious's bestfriend?" She blurted and I turned to cast her a quick glance. "You know him?

(Author's POV)"Mom!"Vicious jerked awake, his entire body shooting upright against the mattress. He sat still for several seconds, breathing hard and fast. His chest rose and fell violently as he stared into the darkness surrounding him, his heart was pounding so hard that he could hear it.For a moment, he couldn't remember where he was, his mind was like a location of a band conference, with different sounds and images clashing all at once.It took a few more minutes before he finally began to realize where he was; his bedroom. He was here, safe; it had only been a dream. But his body hadn't gotten the message yet, his fingers tightened around the bedsheets, his breathing remained uneven. He closed his eyes."Mom..." He mumbled again, his eyes fluttered shut, his words barely audible. The nightmare was already fading away, but the feeling remained, that horrible feeling, the helplessness, the fear, and the memory of losing her.Vicious ran a hand through his hair and slowly pushed

Valerie's POV.My hands continued to tighten around her arm as she continued to scream.I tried to suppress it, just like I had been suppressing everything for days, if only she hadn't come at me like this. I hadn't been training, I hadn't been focusing, I'd been too busy thinking about Vicious and following him around, forgetting the main reason why I had come here, to control my powers, now they're breaking free and it's all because of her.The anger seemed to fuel my powers even more and I pressed down hard against her arms, I could feel her bones now, and even though her screams filled my ears, I couldn't stop."Valerie, look at me." I heard Connor's voice even though they sounded distant. My eyes remained fixed on Clara, the glow around my hands intensified, the windows were begining to rattle now which was new to me, they've never happened before."Valerie, breathe." Connor tried to step between us but my grip on Clara wasn't what he could untangle in a hurry."I am breathing!"
