Lahat ng Kabanata ng Beautiful Betrayal: Kabanata 11 - Kabanata 20

Azerbel looked at Genaro suspiciously."Why are you acting like we've known each other for years?"A small smile appeared on his lips."Maybe I'm naturally friendly."She raised an eyebrow."You're a lycan.""And?""From what I know, lycans aren't exactly friendly with outsiders."Something changed in Genaro's expression. It disappeared almost immediately, but Azerbel noticed. She had touched something."You really believe that?" he asked. "That I'm exactly what people say?""Isn't it true?""That sounds a lot like judgment.""And you sound irrational."Instead of getting angry, Genaro laughed.Azerbel frowned."What?""Oh, Azerbel." His smile widened. "You have no idea how irrational I can be."A strange chill moved through her.For some reason, that didn't sound like a joke."You're crazy.""Not even close."He stepped toward the door."You'll have to know me better before you decide that.""Why would I need to know you better? You're leaving in a week. We probably won't see each oth

Azerbel had no business sitting at that table.Seven Alphas and seven Lunas surrounded her, each one holding a position of power. Then there was Azerbel.Sitting beside Alpha Genaro in a place of honor when she wasn't even going to become a Luna anymore. She would have preferred the kitchen. At least there, no one would be wondering why the rejected mate of Hellfire's future Alpha was sitting beside the Lycan Alpha.Azerbel could feel Luna Lorraine watching her from across the table. She didn't need to look up to know what everyone was wondering. How had Azerbel ended up beside Genaro?Genaro, of course, looked completely comfortable."Since Hellfire didn't provide anyone to guide my people during our stay," he said, "I'm fortunate Azerbel was willing to help me."Azerbel's fingers curled beneath the table. To anyone else, the words might have sounded polite. She knew better.Genaro was insulting Alpha Dave.Politely.Alpha Dave smiled."My apologies for the inconvenience, Alpha Genaro

"Guerero was here this morning."The words hit Azerbel harder than the hangover. She stared at Genaro as he pulled on his tunic."What was he doing here? What did you tell him? Does he know I'm here?"The questions came out one after another."Calm down.""Don't tell me to calm down."Genaro sighed."He came looking for you."Azerbel's breath caught."For me?"A slow grin appeared on his face."Of course I told him you were here.""What?"She grabbed the pillow beside her, ready to throw it at him. Then she remembered who she was dealing with and slowly lowered it.She had already clawed a Lycan Alpha once. She probably shouldn't attack him again."Why would you tell him?""Because it was true."Genaro shrugged."I told him I took care of you and that you'd return when you woke up."Azerbel's frustration grew. Then Genaro added casually, "I also told him you slept in my room."Her head snapped toward him."You told him what?""That you were unconscious."Azerbel's stomach dropped."No.

“I reject you as my mate.”For a moment, Guerero couldn't understand what Azerbel had said. Then the bond broke.Pain exploded through his chest. He staggered backward and grabbed at his shirt as agony spread through his body.“No.”Across from him, Azerbel was suffering too.Her face had gone pale, and pain twisted through her expression. But she didn't take the words back.Guerero stared at her. This wasn't supposed to happen. He had only wanted to frighten her.He wanted Azerbel to realize what she had done.He wanted her to stop ignoring him.To remember that they were mates. To come back to him.Why wasn't she fighting for them? Why wasn't she begging him to stop the banishment? Why had she chosen to reject him instead? Then Azerbel's knees gave way.Guerero moved instinctively.“Azerbel!”But Genaro reached her first. He caught her before she hit the floor.Something inside Guerero snapped.“Put her down!”His roar filled the hall.“Put her down!”He tried to move forward, but Al

Azerbel knew someone was in her room before she opened her eyes. The room felt different.Heavy.Occupied.And somehow, she already knew she wasn't going to like whoever was standing there."What do you want?"Her voice was weak. When she opened her eyes, Genaro stood beside the bed looking completely at ease.Azerbel frowned."Get out of my room.""Good morning to you too.""You're not supposed to be here."The pain from rejecting Guerero still weighed heavily on her body. Even speaking felt exhausting.Genaro didn't seem bothered by her hostility.Instead, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small bottle filled with dark red liquid.Azerbel stared at it."Poison?""If I wanted you dead, I wouldn't need poison."His eyes moved over her."You can barely sit up. You wouldn't last a second against me."Azerbel glared at him."You're very comforting.""I try.""What is it?""A tonic."Genaro held up the bottle."It'll help your body recover from the rejection.""Pass.""You didn't
