Athena P.O.V.“Last night, after midnight, vampires overran the borders at Blue Light, killed some of the warriors and got access to the packgrounds. Your aunt and uncle of course evacuated the pack into the saferooms, while they themselves went out to investigate what was going on. The vampires were not alone, they were working with dark witches and shot your uncle with some sort of arrow poisoned with nightbloom, silver and wolfsbane. The amount was deadly, but Tara felt the attack through the shadows and alerted Alec, who alerted Athena. She and Alec both teleported to Blue Light, and Athena was able to stabilize Xander before he was moved to the hospital. Rose was engaged in combat, and a vampire stabbed her with a poisoned blade, same combination and then bit her to drink her blood before it was totally contaminated. Alec killed the vampires on sight, and Athena healed completely as the poison had almost not touched her bloodstream, but she relapsed in the hospital and almost die

Alec P.O.V.“Sophie, would you please escort my mother, sister and the rest of their group to the meeting room on the Alpha floor for me?” I ask my Gamma, and she nods, hurrying out of the living room. “And would you two please follow me?” I ask Chris and Naima, who also nod and move with me to the stairs.Maeve walks side by side with me, her emotions all over the place at the moment. I grab her hand and link our fingers, feeling her calm down a little as the matebond sparks between us and sends pleasurable electric tinglings up my arm and into my entire body. We make quick work of the stairs in silence, and my head is buzzing with curious packmembers who are asking why three Omega’s have been detained and sent to the cellars. I sent out a massive packlink explaining that I will address the pack this evening and explain what is going on with the arrests and rest assured we got it handled. I also make sure to let them know that the girls have been detained on the grounds of threaten

Athena P.O.V.“So you’re saying you eradicated this Shaded Brotherhood because they were experimenting on all species, and you were the only one who sensed them?” Mom asks, her arms crossed. “My sisters sensed men as well, but they did not see them as much of a threat, but I did, Allie. I knew if they had free play, they would find a recipe for disaster that would destroy our realm and all the others.” “But you killed them?” Mom insists, and Tilara sighs. “I had no choice, Allie. It was either they die and their research be burned to the ground with their locations, or risk what is happening now if I missed someone, and clearly I did. Even us Goddesses are not without fail.”“Clearly.” Mom mutters, but I put my hand on her arm and shake my head. “Aunt Tilara, did you ever discover what the Shaded Brotherhood’s endgame was?” I ask, trying to get this conversation on the right track again. “A species war.” She answers promptly. “Do you know which species they were primarily target

Athena P.O.V.The last thing I remember is Alessa jumping in front of Caspian when the little demonic girl showed her real colors. Then the pain, and everything went dark. The darkness was painful too, until it wasn’t. It became peaceful for a time, darkness with nothing else. At some point though I begin to get bored. Then something happens. A jolt of something, and everything switches. I’m no longer surrounded by darkness, but walking down a gravel path, the ground crunching beneath my feet without hurting them. On either side of me are fields of wildflowers, and right in front of me are a big old blood oak just on the brink of a small stream. Under the blood oak there’s a wolf laying with its head between its paws.I speed up my steps, watching the wolf closely, especially when it lifts its head and locks eyes with me. My breaths hitch as I recognize the wolf as Alessa, and then I’m running. Alessa huffs a laugh, sitting up and letting me throw myself into her big body when I’m in

Caspian P.O.V.The next day Athena is back in her own pack, and Alec doesn’t seem particularly happy with me hanging around in his, but my men have not been cleared to leave yet, so he’ll have to suck it up for the time being. His mate on the other hand is very sweet and accommodating, talking and asking question after question about vampires and our lifestyle. It’s at lunch where Luna Maeve is asking me something about the habits of blooddrinking, when some random female pack member snorts and mumbles about her being rude and stupid. We all hear her, and Alec opens his mouth to defend her, but I beat him to it because his mate was speaking to me and I did not take offense, not even a little bit. I might if he had asked me, but not her. She is as sweet as they come, but one can see and feel that she has been alone for a long time, and it shows in the way she is curious about the world and of people in a way everyone else is absolutely not, because we already know people are stupid an
