~Lyra's POV~Nightshade's memorial ground was older than I expected.I had been to the pack building twice before, in my first life, years ago, when everything about Nightshade felt like territory I was meant to belong to and didn't. The second time more recently, in a capacity I preferred not to dwell on. The memorial ground was separate from both, situated on the hillside north of the main estate, maintained with the particular simplicity of a place that had been cared for consistently rather than impressively. Older stones near the top, newer ones down the slope, the grass between them cut short and unornamented. The kind of burial ground that accumulated meaning the quiet way, through repetition and weather and the weight of everyone who had stood there over time.Kira was at the gate when I arrived.She looked, as she usually looked, like someone who had been awake for several hours before anyone else and had used the time productively.
