Lillian's POV I threw the book at him. It landed against his chest before falling onto the floor. Anger flashed across his eyes, but it disappeared almost as quickly as it came. “Why did you lie to me?” I demanded, tears streaming down my face. “Why did you deceive me?” Hayes stared at me. “I can explain.” “Explain?” I laughed bitterly, wiping at my tears with trembling hands. “After everything I went through in my past, you did this to me too? I trusted you, Hayes. I actually trusted you.” “Calm down, Lilli.” “Don't tell me to calm down!” My voice echoed through the office. “So all of it was a lie?” I demanded. “All that love, all those promises, everything you said to me was just a facade?” His jaw tightened. “You only wanted to use me after your father massacred my people?” Hayes went silent. That silence tore through me. “Answer me!” He looked at me, but he said nothing. I hated the way he looked. I hated the pain in his eyes. I hated that he looked like seeing me cry
