[Reens Mansion] Emily invited both families to Kendra’s mansion that afternoon. The living room felt too large and too quiet at the same time. Soft afternoon light filtered through the tall windows, catching the dust motes that drifted above the polished floor. Everyone was already seated—Mr. and Mrs. Harrington on one long sofa, Mr. and Mrs. Green opposite them, Emily’s grandmother in the armchair nearest the fireplace. Emily sat beside her mother, hands folded tightly in her lap. Knox and Kendra were not present. Mrs. Harrington was the first to speak. “A news is circulating online that you’re in a relationship with someone?” Emily kept her gaze steady. “No, we broke up before I got engaged to Knox. The truth is he wants me back, but I do not want him.” She turned slightly so she could look at both her mother and father. Her heart was already pounding. “I know you both might dislike me for what I’m about to do right now.” she said. Mrs. Green’s shoulders rose an

Emily drove into the hospital parking lot with trembling hands, her eyes fixed on the entrance of City Hospital. Her parents were in the car with her, along with her grandmother, and the fear inside the vehicle was almost suffocating. The moment Emily parked, she barely waited for the car to come to a complete stop before opening the door. “Emily, wait!” her mother called, but she was already rushing toward the entrance. Mr. and Mrs. Harrington arrived moments later in a different car. They got out quickly and followed her inside. City Hospital was enormous, its bright white walls and long corridors giving it the unmistakable appearance of a busy public hospital. People sat on benches along the walls, nurses hurried between departments, and the sound of footsteps echoed through the spacious reception area. Emily rushed toward the reception desk. Two nurses sat behind the counter, speaking quietly to each other. The moment Emily approached them, they looked up. “Please…” Emily'

“Come with me,” the nurse said gently. “We need to take your blood sample and begin the compatibility testing.” Mrs. Harrington nodded silently. She didn't even look back at anyone. She followed the nurse through the doors leading toward the treatment area, leaving the others standing in the waiting room with a thousand unanswered questions. Emily watched her disappear down the corridor before turning toward the doctor. “What about Kendra?” Her voice was shaky. “Why isn't anyone saying anything about her?” Her mother immediately took her hand, while her father stood beside them with a worried expression. He hated hospitals. He hated seeing people sick, injured, or surrounded by fear. But seeing his daughter this distressed was even worse. The doctor sighed and said. “We're doing everything we can.” Emily's heart sank. “But I don't know if her baby will survive.” Emily blinked several times. “What baby?” The doctor looked at her in surprise. “You didn't know?” “Know what

Emily's eyes widened.Sean stared at Mrs. Harrington in disbelief.Mr. Green's mouth fell slightly open. And Mr. Harrington simply stood there, staring at his wife as though the words had physically struck him.“No,” he whispered.Mrs. Harrington covered her mouth as she began sobbing.“No…”She shook her head violently. “No, that's impossible. I carried him. I gave birth to him. I remember the day he was born. I remember holding him.”Her knees nearly gave way.Mr. Harrington caught her before she fell. “Ava…”“He's my son,” she cried. “He has to be my son.”Sean stared toward the emergency doors. His heart pounded. If the test was right, then everything they believed about Knox had just been turned upside down. And somewhere behind those doors, Knox was fighting for his life without knowing that the woman who had raised him had just been told he wasn't hers.Sean's jaw dropped. For several seconds, nobody said a word.Emily stood frozen beside her parents, staring at Mrs. Harrington

“What are you saying?” Mrs. Harrington stared at Evelyn in disbelief, her face slowly losing its color. “You mean my son, Knox, is your wife’s son? Oh my God.”Her voice trembled as she looked from Evelyn to Mr. Harrington, completely overwhelmed by what she had just heard.“Ava, please, I’ll explain everything to you later. Just let Evelyn…”Mr. Harrington reached for his wife’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, trying to calm her down.“Let us see if the blood matches first,” he said quietly.“But how can…”“Please,” he interrupted, his voice pleading. “Time is running out, Ava. Think about Knox right now. We can talk about everything else later.”Mrs. Harrington pressed her lips together, tears already gathering in her eyes. She was still trying to process the information, but the thought of her son lying unconscious in the emergency ward made her swallow back every other question. She nodded reluctantly. “Fine,” she whispered.Evelyn watched them for a moment before following the

Emily looked at him for a moment before glancing at Sean. Sean said nothing. Emily turned back to Langston. “Yeah, she’s good,” she replied with a small, reassuring smile. “Thanks for your concern.” Langston visibly relaxed. “It’s my pleasure.” He paused before asking, “Can I stay to see her?” “Yeah, sure,” Emily said. “But she’s still unconscious right now.” Langston nodded. “That’s okay. I just want to be here when she wakes up.” Emily gave him another small smile. “I understand.” Sean glanced down at his wristwatch. His expression became serious. “I’m going back to the emergency ward,” he said. Emily turned toward him. “Okay.” Sean gave her a brief nod before walking away. He needed to know what was happening with Knox. He couldn't just stand around while everyone else waited for answers. Emily watched him disappear down the hallway before turning back to Langston. Meanwhile, Sean quickly made his way back to the emergency ward. The closer he got, the more anxious

Richard lay quietly on the hospital bed, his arm connected to the drip hanging beside him. The steady sound of the machine in the room should have helped him relax, but his mind was anything but settled. He kept thinking about Kendra. He wanted to call her.He wanted to hear her voice, even if it was only for a few seconds. But at the same time, something inside him kept telling him that he might already be too late.Maybe Kendra had finally moved on.Maybe she no longer wanted anything to do with him.Or worse, maybe something had happened to her. That thought made his chest tighten. He reached for the phone Ava borrowed her on the small table beside the bed, staring at the screen for a while before putting it down again. He didn't know what he would even say if she answered.I'm sorry?I regret everything?I should have loved you when I had the chance?None of those words felt enough. His grandmother, Grace, sat on one side of the bed, while his younger sister, Sofia, sat on the ot

The next morning, the doors to the emergency room finally opened. Mrs. Harrington shot to her feet the moment she saw the doctor walking toward them, a nurse following closely behind. She barely slept all night. Her eyes were swollen from crying, and her hands trembled as she rushed toward him. Her ex-husband, Victor, followed immediately. “Doctor, how is my son?” Ava(Mrs Harrington) asked, her voice trembling with fear. “How is Knox?” The doctor removed his mask and took a slow breath. “He survived the surgery,” he said. Ava’s shoulders immediately dropped in relief. But the doctor wasn't finished. “However, he has slipped into a coma.” The relief disappeared from her face. “What?” Ava whispered. “He suffered severe trauma, and his body is extremely weak. Right now, his brain needs time to recover. Unfortunately, I can't tell you when he'll regain consciousness.” Ava stared at him as though she hadn't heard him correctly. “When will he wake up?” she asked. “I honestly

Six months had passed since the accident that shattered everything.Kendra had been discharged from the hospital two months earlier, her body finally pronounced fully recovered. The bruises had faded, the stitches had long since dissolved, and the doctors had signed off on every test. Physically, she was whole again. Emotionally, she was still in pieces.Emily and her parents had insisted on moving her back to the family mansion the moment she was cleared. Kendra hadn’t argued. The thought of returning to her apartment—where she and Knox had first begun, where every corner still held the echo of his voice and the imprint of his hands—felt unbearable. Staying there alone while he remained unconscious somewhere on the other side of the world would have broken her completely. So she let them bring her home, to the large, quiet house that now felt more like a soft prison than a sanctuary. She rarely left her room. Business meetings were conducted from her laptop, camera carefully ang

“Hey, good news!”Sean’s excited voice came through the phone.Emily immediately reached for her phone and placed the call on speaker.“What good news?” she asked. There was a brief pause before Sean answered, sounding far too pleased with himself.“Well, I’ll be back in Italy soon.”The excitement on Kendra’s face disappeared almost instantly.Emily’s expression fell too.For the past six months, every unexpected piece of news had somehow been connected to Knox. They had spent months worrying about him, hoping for updates, praying that something would change. So when Sean said he had good news, Kendra had naturally assumed it had something to do with Knox.Instead, it was about Sean coming back to Italy.Emily stared at the phone in disbelief.“That’s your good news?” she muttered.Kendra climbed off the bed without saying anything and walked toward the bathroom. She opened the door and disappeared inside before quietly shutting it behind her.Emily picked up the phone and held it ag
