The sound of Chloe’s heels clicking against the concrete floor was like a bucket of ice water poured directly down Liam’s spine. The magnetic gravity that had bound him to Jaxson for the last three minutes instantly shattered into pure, unadulterated panic. Liam’s eyes widened, his hands dropping from the captain's neck as he instinctively shoved against Jaxson’s massive chest. The physical separation was jarring; Jaxson stumbled back a step, his boots scuffing loudly against the floor, his dark eyes instantly clouding over with a mixture of raw hurt and defensive fury as the reality of the world outside the tunnel crashed back down upon them."Liam?" Chloe’s voice was closer now, her shadow lengthening against the wall of the intersecting corridor. "The car is out front. Sarah said you came down this way."Liam’s breath came in short, ragged gasps. He looked down at his clothes—his tailored suit jacket was wrinkled, his collar slightly askew. He frantically ran a trembling hand throu

The edge of the blade didn't lie. If a skater’s mind was even a millimeter off center, the ice exposed it instantly.Liam came down from a triple lutz and felt his weight shift too far to the heel. The silver steel lost its grip on the frozen surface, catching awkwardly on the transition line. He managed to check his balance with a sharp, violent twist of his torso, his arms snapping out to save himself from a hard fall, but the recovery was ugly. His skate scraped a loud, screeching protest across the rink. From the player's bench, the head aggregate coach blew a sharp whistle. "Take a breath, Vance! Your center of gravity is completely skewed today. Check your posture and run the sequence again from the blue line."Liam stood in the center of the ice, his chest heaving under his thin black training shirt. He didn't look at the coaching staff. Instead, his eyes automatically darted toward the heavy plexiglass separating the figure skating sector from the hockey team’s scrimmage zone.

The ride back to the Omni Parker House was conducted in an entirely different kind of silence. The aggressive, territorial friction from the train had settled into something thick and dangerously cooperative.Liam sat in the passenger seat of the rideshare vehicle Jaxson had intercepted, his left hand gripping the door handle while his right arm hung rigidly at his side. Every bump in the Boston pavement sent a dull, throbbing ache straight through his left shoulder blade.Jaxson sat right beside him, his massive frame crowding the small backseat, his dark eyes staring fixedly ahead. He didn't say a word to the driver, nor to Liam, but his left hand rested flat on the seat fabric between them, less than an inch from Liam’s thigh—a silent, heavy anchor keeping the perimeter closed. They used the service entrance again, slipping up to the seventh floor without encountering a soul. The clock on the elevator wall read 12:42 AM.When the door to suite 714 clicked shut behind them, the phys

The harsh, gray glare of a Boston winter morning cut ruthlessly through the gaps in the crimson drapes, slicing across the king-sized bed of the left bedroom.Liam woke up all at once, his body instantly locking into its default, defensive rigidity. The heat was the first thing his brain registered. The suffocating, heavy warmth wrapped around his torso wasn’t the hotel duvet; it was Jaxson’s right arm, thick and heavy as a iron bar, pinned across Liam’s ribs. The captain was sound asleep beside him, his massive six-foot-three frame taking up three-quarters of the mattress, his face buried deep into the crook of Liam’s neck. The low, steady vibration of Jaxson's breathing rattled directly against Liam's skin.Liam lay entirely still, his blue eyes staring wide-eyed at the ornate ceiling plaster. The raw, territorial chaos of the night before rushed back into his mind with the force of a physical hit. *We crossed the line. The ledger is gone.*A sharp, throbbing ache in his left should

The interior corridor of the TD Garden smelled of stale ice, industrial floor wax, and the heavy, damp scent of laundry from the visitor’s locker room. The distant, muffled roar of the stadium crew setting up the boards for the morning skate vibrated through the thick cinderblock walls, a low-frequency hum that seemed to match the erratic rhythm of Liam’s pulse. They were safe. The digital metrics on Sarah’s tablet were still climbing into the millions, a green, glowing wall of algorithmic victory that proved the narrative had shifted. The panic that had choked the air out of the Omni Parker House suite was gone, replaced by the clinical, corporate success of a crisis averted. But as Liam stood under the harsh, flickering fluorescent lights of the tunnel, the silence between him and Jaxson felt heavier than the media storm they had just walked through.Jaxson remained leaned against the wall, his massive arms crossed tightly over his chest. His breathing had finally slowed, but his da
