Semua Bab Too Late, Mom: Bab 1 - Bab 9

The cops called my family to inform them of my death, but they shrugged it off. They assumed the cops were calling for something trivial. My parents and my brother weren't affected at all.The tourist spot was jam-packed, but they looked happy taking photos, checking in, and enjoying the local food.My spirit hovered in the air, watching those who were supposed to be my family going about enjoying life. My heart panged, but I couldn't cry. The tears wouldn't come. I was already used to situations like these.I came to this new home when I was six, and my mother's hatred for me only grew stronger since then. When I was born, a seer told my mother I was cursed. She believed him and abandoned me in a small town. They only took me home when I turned six.My father noticed my constant low mood, so he grabbed my sister and me and took us for a ride. My mother told him not to spoil me. She said that I'd grow up a menace to society if I didn't keep my temper in check. My father ignored h

"If you can't forget them, then you should've died with them!" My mother ripped that toy out of my hand and smashed it against the ground. She stomped and trampled all over it until it was irrevocably broken. All I wanted was an apology from Yves, but it was at that moment that I realized that my mother would hate me for as long as I lived.Since then, I made it a point to limit any contact with them as much as I could. I only came out for meals and would hide in my room once that was over. When high school came, I applied to live in a dorm."Your allowance is cut from 500 to 200 starting next month. You know how much your grandmother loves to gamble. She lost five million this time, and your stepfather despises gambling. I used my money to pay off her debt. You'll have to bear with it for a bit."And here I thought she called because she missed me. I was wrong. Still, that didn't change the fact that she was only going to give me 200 dollars a month when I was a growing boy. I

My teacher was stunned by the violence, and it took him moments to recover. When he did, he shot up and stood before me like a shield. "You can talk this out. There's no need for violence, and certainly no need for such harsh words!"My mother refused to back down as she spat at me, "Instead of studying, you're working with an outsider to lie to me?"My teacher slammed his table in fury. "Watch your tongue, ma'am. I am his teacher!"Classes had ended, and it was peak hour. So, there was a crowd of students forming around us, and I could see my mother's cheeks heating up in mortification. She finally noticed that my teacher was getting genuinely upset, so she relented."I'm sorry. I had no idea you were the teacher, but my son is a troublemaker. I wanted him to be frugal, but he lied to me and stole my money. And he even faked an illness and told me he fainted from hunger."Agitation seeped into my mother with every single word she spoke. Everyone's eyes were on her, but she didn

I eventually regained my consciousness, but by the time I did… three days had already passed. Then, I realized I was hovering in midair. I swiftly looked down only to find my corpse lying quietly on the ground.I was dead.Weirdly enough, fear wasn't the first thing that crashed into me; it was relief. I no longer had to feel pain or hunger, and I didn't have to worry about money anymore. My soul flickered right over to my mother's side, but she couldn't see me. My parents were enjoying their vacation on the beach of Morrodon, and they had befriended a couple who complained about how much child-rearing cost.My mother started bragging about her achievement, telling her new friends how she had put the fear of God into her troublesome son and how I only needed 20 dollars every month. Then, she started boasting that she had managed to train me out of ever needing money. I couldn't help but think to myself. 'Beautiful words are only ever used to hide the ugliest of truths.'For the

On the day of my funeral, my stepfather dragged my mother out of the bedroom and made her take part in the service.A big crowd turned up. I saw a lot of people I didn't know coming to give me flowers. My mother acted weirdly that day. A boy tried to give me flowers, but she ripped the bouquet out of his hand and hurled it down before trampling all over it.The boy thought my mother was having problems handling her grief, so he offered his sincere condolences. To everyone's shock, my mother smiled and held his hands. "Oh, you know my son? He's a very good boy. I never had to worry about him, and he's always top of his class."She pointed at the empty space beside her and continued, "He's about your height but more handsome."My stepfather shook her shoulders to have her snap out of it. "Wake up! He's gone!"My mother covered my stepfather's mouth. She still had that unnerving smile on her face. "Don't listen to him," she told the guests. "Jonah's fine. He's just gone to school.
