Chapter 2: THE PROMISE The next few days were full of stolen moments and whispered words. We couldn't keep our hands off each other. And it was like a barrier had broken, releasing years of pent-up emotion. And every single touch was electric, every glance was charged, and every kiss was a promise of forever. But we were careful, because we had to be. Our parents didn't know about us, the couldn't know. Not yet, not until we ourselves were ready. So we tiptoed around the house like strangers, pretending we were just the same old step-siblings we'd always been, but I knew he was watching me, I could feel his gaze on my skin like a warm caress, and I also couldn't stop watching him either. At dinner, I'd catch his eyes across the table, while holding my gaze just a second too long, making me feel a blush creep up my neck. I'd always looked away, but my heart would be racing. My mother chattered on about the neighbors, and my

CHAPTER 2: The ConfessionThe coffee sat between us, as it grew colder by the minute. I stared at the worn photograph of us and traced my fingers around the edges. We looked so young, so happy, and so innocent. I remembered that day — it was a summer afternoon, and the sun was warm on our faces, with the sound of our giggles echoing through the trees. We'd been inseparable back then, and we always thought nothing could ever tear us apart.I looked up at Damian and saw his eyes were fixed on me—waiting. He looked like a man who had nothing left to lose, and there was desperation in his gaze, a vulnerability I'd never seen before."Iris," he said, his voice was barely a whisper. "I'm not asking for your forgiveness, nor am I asking you to forget what happened. I'm just asking you to please hear me out, and let me explain, and for you to give me a chance to make you understand."I swallowed hard. "Then explain," I said.He took a deep breath

Chapter 1: The TripThe beach house was damn stunning. It sat on a cliff overlooking the ocean, with all-white walls and floor-to-ceiling windows that caught the sun's dying light. The waves crashed against the rocks below, sending plumes of white spray into the air. The sun was now setting, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink and gold and it looked like something out of a painting. I stood on the deck, with my hands wrapped around a glass of white wine, watching the water. The salty breeze was warm against my skin, tangling my hair, and I felt like I could finally breathe, like I could finally let go of all the stress and worry that had been weighing me down for months. The past few weeks had been hell, as work was a nightmare, and my friends were scattered across the country. And the uncertainty between Darian and me had been building into something I couldn't quite ignore anymore."Pretty, isn't it?"I turned and s

CHAPTER 3: THE MORNING AFTERI woke up in his arms, with the sun rising over the ocean, and casting golden light across the room. The curtains were open, and the morning glow spilled across the white sheets, heating my skin. I could hear the waves crashing gently against the shore, a soft, rhythmic sound that felt like a lullaby.I felt warm, safe, and happy. And that's when reality hit me like a wave of cold water.I just slept with my stepbrother.I turned my head slowly, careful not to wake him. He was still sleeping, and his face was peaceful and relaxed. His dark hair was tousled, falling across his forehead, and his lips were slightly parted. He looked younger in sleep. Softer and less guarded. My heart ached.I'd wanted this for so long and dreamed about it, fantasized about it, imagined what it would actually be like to wake up in his arms. But now that it was real, I was terrified. Everything had changed, nothin

Chapter 2:The confrontation happened three weeks later. We were in his office. The lights were dim, casting long, dancing shadows across the walls. The building was empty, and silent except for the distant hum of the city and the delicate ticking of the clock on his desk. Everyone else had gone home hours ago, and we were alone. Completely, and dangerously alone. He was leaning against his desk, with his arms crossed over his chest and his sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, as usual revealing the muscles of his forearms. His tie was gone, and the top two buttons of his shirt were undone, exposing a sliver of his chest. He looked tired, rumpled, and infuriatingly handsome."You're avoiding me," he said. His voice was low, measured, and there was an edge to it. An accusation."I'm not avoiding you," I said, in a flat voice. I refused to let him see how much he affected me, as I kept my arms crossed, my jaw tight, and my eyes fi
