Lahat ng Kabanata ng An AI Ate My Commission: Kabanata 1 - Kabanata 9

Ten minutes later, Maya Lowe from HR called me into a small conference room. A Project Commission Settlement Agreement was waiting on the table.Vivian Dunn from Accounting sat across from me without even looking up."Sign it," she said.I glanced over the agreement.Settlement Amount: 88,000 dollarsPayment Method: Automatic payment via the AI Payroll AssistantEmployee Acknowledgment: I confirm that I have received the full amount and have no further claims against the company.I pushed the agreement back across the table. "I haven't received a dime."Vivian finally looked up. "Zoe, how long are you going to keep this up? Mr. Zeller already posted the payment confirmation in the group chat."I pulled up my banking app and held out my phone, showing a balance of 18 dollars and 20 cents."This is all I have," I said.Maya frowned. "How do we know you don't have another account? Showing us one balance doesn't prove anything."I let out a humorless laugh. "Then which account

At 9:30 the next morning, Janet posted the latest version of the proposal in the Evercrest project group chat. I was only three pages in when my blood went cold. She had used the one term Evercrest had explicitly banned that year. She had also included outdated figures Mr. Lloyd had repeatedly warned us not to use.She had even managed to get Evercrest's chairman's name wrong while copying it from the previous year's press release.I posted a warning in the group chat. "There are serious errors on pages three, five, and twelve. I don't recommend sending this to the client."Janet replied immediately. "Zoe, aren't you being a little too sensitive? The AI pulled this together using information from all over the Internet, and there's nothing wrong with the logic."I typed back. "The client's internal requirements aren't publicly available."Jim jumped in. "Enough. Zoe, you refused to cooperate with the handoff, and now you're tearing down someone else's work. The Evercrest project i

No one spoke in the conference room. Jim's already pale face took on a sickly cast before he finally managed a strained smile. He said, "Mr. Lloyd, this is just a disgruntled employee acting out. Zoe misunderstood how the company handled her commission, so she made some inappropriate remarks during the meeting."I ignored him and kept my eyes on the screen. "Mr. Lloyd, I can still save the proposal."Jim immediately relaxed, but my next words wiped the relief from his face."But this meeting needs to be recorded. I want it on record who will be responsible for the proposal going forward, the handoff to a new project leader, the commission dispute, and the source of the AI-generated material."After two seconds of silence, Mr. Lloyd nodded. "Agreed."The client call wasn't the only reason I had insisted on recording the meeting. The payment confirmation Jim had posted in the group chat wasn't just an ordinary screenshot. The company used an enterprise AI system integrated with it

The message landed like a slap, and the entire room went silent.Janet's tears finally spilled over. "Of course Mr. Lloyd only trusts you with the project. You've been handling it this whole time. How was I supposed to compete with that?"She looked at Jim, her voice shaking. "Mr. Zeller, I really didn't know Evercrest hadn't approved the switch."Jim frowned. "Janet, this isn't the time."She blurted out, "But yesterday, you said Evercrest was just another client and that anyone could handle the project."You said that if I became the project leader, you'd make me a permanent employee by the end of the year and guarantee my bonus."The moment the words left her mouth, she froze.Jim went livid.I looked at him. "So, this was never about internal staffing. You were trying to give her credit for my work and hand her my commission too."Vivian immediately stepped in. "Zoe, don't make baseless accusations. The project bonus hasn't even been finalized."I opened the compensation

Bracing himself against the edge of the table, Jim finally forced the words out through clenched teeth. "I'm sorry."I didn't respond. He closed his eyes for a moment. "The 88,000 dollars will be paid today. Janet will be removed from the Evercrest project, and the bonus paid to her will be clawed back. Zoe will continue to lead the project."Only then did Mr. Lloyd nod. "Evercrest agrees that Zoe should remain in charge."He paused. "But from now on, Zoe must personally confirm every project milestone. Mr. Zeller, no one at your company is to bypass her again."Jim looked grim, but he had no choice but to nod. "Understood."My phone buzzed. A text from the bank appeared on the screen."88,000 dollars deposited into account ending in 3772."I stared at the numbers and almost laughed.AI hadn't been necessary after all. When the money actually reached my account, the bank confirmed it with a single text. After that day, Janet never appeared in the Evercrest project group chat
