Dominic POVThe penalty box door swung open hard. Cold water was dripping from the bottom of my jersey, and it was getting over the tape on my wrists. I did not look back at the ice. I did not look at the referee who was still blowing his whistle. My skates made cuts in the rubber mats as I walked right past the locker room.Every time I breathed in, it tasted like metal and my heart was racing. I could still see Julian falling on the ice. It was stuck in my head. The Titan player had gotten too close to Theo. He had touched my mate out on the ice, and something inside me just took over.I was not sorry about hitting him. I was just sorry that the cameras saw how I felt.I pulled off my gloves and pushed through the secure doors that led away from where my team was. The special elevator was at the end of the hallway. I used my card to unlock it.Access Level: Executive SuiteUser: Dominic ValeStatus: AuthorizedThe elevator started moving up fast, and the noise from the crowd got qui

Theo POVThe glass walls of the penthouse felt like a cage. Outside, the city lights twinkled through an evening haze, but inside, it was completely silent. The big TV in the living room was turned off, showing a sports news loop that I did not want to watch.I walked back and forth on the hardwood floor, my fingers gripping the edge of my practice jersey. My stomach was a knot of anxiety. Ever since Dominic came back from the arena owners' suite, the air in the apartment had changed. Arthur Vale had people investigating in the valley. They had found my car. They were looking around the edges of the town where I really felt safe.Dominic sat at the kitchen island with three laptops open in front of him. His lawyers were on a conference call, their voices low and urgent. His jaw was clenched so hard that the muscle in his cheek was visible."Secure the registry," Dominic said into the mic, his voice flat and cold. "I do not care what they want. We need to get all the data from two seas

Theo's POVThe door was closed. The room smelled of rubbing alcohol and cold stainless steel. Dr. Reynolds held the silver tray, his rubber gloves snapping against his wrists. On the tray, three long needles glinted under the bright fluorescent ceiling lamps."Take off your shirt, Maren," Dr. Reynolds said. His voice was completely flat. "We need to check your baseline now."My fingers went to the edge of my practice jersey. My palm was soaked in sweat. I looked at Dominic, who stood like a massive shadow beside the examination table. His jaw was clenched, but he gave me a barely visible nod.I pulled the heavy jersey over my head and tossed it onto the plastic chair. The cold air of the training room hit my bare skin, making the hairs on my arms stand up. On my left shoulder blade, hidden away from the doctor's direct line of sight, was the high-grade biochemical patch.Dominic's private medical specialist had given it to me in secret. It was a thin, clear film that fed synthetic Bet

Dominic's POVThe air in the room was so thick it was hard to breathe. The smell of metal and alcohol was completely gone, replaced by the coaching staff's anger. The Titans head coach was not backing down. He was standing in my face, his chest pushing against mine under the bright lights."Vale, what are you doing in our locker room?" the Titans head coach asked, his teeth clenched and his hand gripping his shirt. "You are breaking the rules."I did not move. I stood like a rock between the coaching staff and the table where Theo was sitting without a shirt. I was focused on the coach in front of me."I am on league property," I said, my voice low and slow. "The players association is in charge of all rooms in this building. If your staff cannot do a test without messing up the computer, it becomes my problem.""This is our room," the coach said, his face getting redder as he tried to look past me. He wanted to get to Theo. "Theo is a Titans player. You are the captain of the Royals.

Dominic's POVWe had just gotten close to each other. The warmth of our bond filled the room. It was a feeling that made the outside world completely disappear. Then a small sound broke the silence. It was a metal click from above. Theo became still beneath me. His fingers were tangled in my hair. He stopped breathing. His wide eyes looked up at the ceiling. He was full of fear.Seeing him like this scared me. It made me want to protect Theo. I moved away from him. The cold air of the motel room hit my skin. My heart was beating fast. It was not from desire anymore. It was from fear."Dominic..." Theo whispered. His voice was shaking. He pulled the sheet up to his chest.I leaned down first, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to his forehead, letting my lips rest against his trembling skin to anchor him. "I am right here, sweetheart," I murmured against his temple, wrapping my arms around his shoulders for a quick, tight hug. "I have you. Always."I reluctantly pulled back to deal with t
