Seven circles just opened up under Luna, but they didn't pull her down. Instead, they opened outwards, each golden ring becoming a doorway to somewhere else entirely. One showed a garden with silver trees, another a battlefield littered with forgotten crowns, and a third an ocean under two moons. The other doorways led to a library, a burning village, an empty throne room, and a quiet bedroom where a couple slept, hands clasped together. Luna found herself staring at that last image. It looked so normal, so ordinary, which actually made it feel more significant than all the fantastical places. Darius moved closer, and as he did, the golden circles reacted. Six stayed steady, but the seventh, the one with the sleeping couple, suddenly flared brighter. Isolde slowly lifted her head and murmured, "Devotion recognizes him."
