Lahat ng Kabanata ng My Best Friend's Dad Yearns For Me: Kabanata 41 - Kabanata 50

Rosalie's POVI stared at the phone.“But there’s one condition.”For a few seconds, I couldn't speak. After everything I'd just told him, after finally admitting that I needed his help, that was the last thing I expected to hear.“What condition?”There was a brief silence on the other end.“Come to the ball with me.”I blinked.“The what?”“The school ball.”I sat up straighter.“You're serious?”“Yes.”I stared at the wall in front of me.I had called this man because my academic standing was in danger, and somehow we'd gone from discussing Professor Harris to him asking me to a ball. Of everything I could have expected, this was the least of them. The ball was weeks away and I had already canceled any thought of me attending unless Emily wanted to drag me all the way to the hall. “You cannot be serious, Caleb.”“I am.”A laugh escaped me and it was not because it was funny. Because I genuinely didn't know what else to do.“You're asking me to go to a ball with you as a condition

Rosalie's POVBy the time I got to Westfield on Monday, I had almost convinced myself that the previous week hadn't happened. Almost. The conversation with Caleb kept replaying in my head. His voice. The way he'd listened when I told him about Professor Harris. The way he'd agreed to help me and then there was the condition. The ball.I still hadn't figured out how I was going to explain that to Emily."Rosa!"I looked up from my phone. Emily was walking toward me with a smile that immediately told me she had something to say."What?"She slipped her arm through mine."I have news.""Good news?""Very good."I smiled. "What happened?""I have a date."I stopped walking."You?"She gasped dramatically. "Why do you sound surprised?""Because you just told me about Jerry.""Jerry is history.""That was fast.""He made it easy."I laughed. "So who is this new person?"She grinned."His name is Adrian.""Adrian?""Yes.""How did you meet him?""At the gym."I raised an eyebrow. "You go to

Rosalie's POVThe first sign that something was wrong came during Professor Harris's class. It started normally. He stood at the front of the room, moving through his presentation while students took notes. Emily sat beside me, occasionally whispering complaints about the lecture whenever she thought he wasn't looking.I was barely listening. My mind was still occupied by Caleb. The ball was only a few days away, and I still hadn't figured out how we were supposed to handle Emily. Then someone at the back of the room laughed. It wasn't unusual. Students laughed during lectures all the time.Professor Harris stopped speaking. "Is there something funny?"The laughter immediately died as nobody answered. He looked around the room suspiciously before turning back toward the screen."Right."He continued.Less than a minute later, someone giggled again. This time, more people joined in.Professor Harris turned sharply. "What's going on?"Silence.I glanced at Emily. She was looking around

Rosalie's POVBy Wednesday morning, Westfield no longer felt like the same university. The moment I walked through the main entrance, I knew something had changed.Students were gathered in small groups, talking in low voices. Phones were everywhere. Someone was reading something aloud while three other people leaned over her shoulder.Professor Harris's name was on almost everyone's lips.I tightened my grip on my bag and kept walking."Rosa!"I turned. Emily hurried toward me, her phone in her hand."Have you seen this?""Seen what?"She held up her screen. Another statement had been released. This time, it wasn't from a student. It was from Eleanor Harris.I read the first few lines and my stomach tightened. She had confirmed that she had discovered evidence of her husband's misconduct and intended to cooperate with any investigation into his activities.I looked at Emily."She actually went public.""Apparently."She scrolled."Look at this."There were screenshots of messages bet

Rosalie POV"You."The word was barely above a whisper, but it still sent a strange warmth through me.I looked at Caleb. His eyes remained on mine, certain."You."I swallowed. For a second, I forgot there were hundreds of people around us.Then someone laughed nearby, and the music shifted, reminding me exactly where I was.I glanced around the ballroom again. Something suddenly occurred to me."This isn't a student ball."Caleb smiled. "No."I looked at him. "Then what is it?""A sponsors' ball."I frowned. I had assumed it was some elaborate university event where students, faculty and wealthy guests mingled. But now that I looked more carefully, I noticed the difference. There were faculty heads her, top university officials, business owners, and mostly people I'd only read about in newspapers. A few students were present, but most of them seemed to be accompanying sponsors or important guests.Even some of the women I had noticed earlier weren't exactly behaving like people who
