Chapter 1

“Tamsin has returned to the pack. Go ahead and reject me.”I turned to my Alpha mate, Stellan Voss, my expression blank.Surprise flickered across his face, but he recovered almost immediately and recited the familiar words of rejection.“I, Stellan Voss, Alpha of the SilverMoon Pack, reject Elowen Reed as my mate. From this moment, she is no longer my mate.”The mark on the side of my neck burned, but I kept my voice steady when I gave him my answer.“I, Elowen Reed, accept Alpha Stellan Voss’s rejection. From this moment, he is no longer my mate.”The moment the words left my mouth, our mind-link snapped shut.Deep inside me, my wolf let out an agonized howl. It felt as though my soul had been torn in two. This was the first time I had ever asked Stellan to reject me.Still, just as he had the previous six times, Stellan made me another promise as if it cost him nothing.“When she leaves in a month, we’ll bond again.”In the past, those words would never have given me the reassurance

Chapter 2

Sure enough, once Tamsin returned to the pack, Stellan was suddenly busy all over again.I no longer spent every separation trawling through rumors and pack gossip, trying to predict every place Stellan might appear so I could be waiting when he arrived.Instead, I let Sabine pull me into a far better life—morning tee times, champagne brunches, and last-minute weekends chasing fresh powder in the mountains. For the first time in years, my days were not arranged around Stellan’s schedule. Sabine booked the tee times, chose the restaurants, and filled every hour before I could start wondering where he was. I had forgotten how peaceful life could feel when I was no longer waiting for someone. Before I knew it, only twenty days remained until I left the pack. One afternoon, Sabine and I were waiting for our food when Stellan and Tamsin unexpectedly walked into the restaurant. They were laughing together and looked every inch the perfect couple.“Elowen?”Stellan’s gaze found me immediately

Chapter 3

I assumed the restaurant would be the last time Stellan and I crossed paths before I left the pack. That same evening, however, he called me on video. He had never done anything like that before. Curiosity stopped me from declining outright, so I switched the call to audio-only and answered.Displeasure was clear in his voice.“Why did you turn off the video?”I gave him the first excuse that came to mind.“I’m not wearing makeup.”I regretted it the moment I said it. The excuse made it sound as though I still cared how he saw me.Sure enough, Stellan laughed, his mood brightening at once.“We’ve bonded seven times. Do you really think I haven’t seen you without makeup?”The flirtatious note in his voice made my skin crawl.“What do you want?” I asked coldly. He must have heard the distance in my voice, because the teasing vanished from his tone.“The housekeeper said you haven’t been back to the Pack House once.”I gave a noncommittal “Mm” and offered no explanation.Silence stretched

Chapter 4

Without Stellan, the days passed quickly. By the time I looked up, only a few remained before I left the pack.Although I had no contact with him, Sabine occasionally mentioned what was happening between him and Tamsin.Apparently, they had gotten into a vicious argument. Stellan had walked out of a banquet in full view of everyone, without the slightest concern for how it would embarrass her.Rumor had it the fight was about me.I merely smiled when I heard.I was no longer the hopeless romantic who refreshed social media countless times a day, searching for clues in every post from Stellan, Tamsin, or anyone in the pack who knew them.Stellan did love me—but what good was that? Whenever his childhood sweetheart Tamsin returned to the pack, he would leave me behind and rush to her side. Tamsin would always have a place in his heart.I didn’t want that kind of love anymore. After that, Stellan began calling me more often each day. I either declined immediately or found some excuse no

Chapter 5

Stellan’s POV“Goodbye, Stellan.”The call ended before he could answer.Elowen had already switched off her phone. As the engines roared beneath her and the plane began to move, the knot in her chest finally loosened. For the first time in a long time, leaving felt final.Stellan stood in Sabine’s living room with the dead phone still pressed to his ear.For a moment, he simply stared ahead. Then he lowered the phone.“Where did she go?”His voice was rough, stripped of its usual command.Sabine folded her arms. “You care now?”“She left.”Stellan’s expression hardened. “What does that mean?”When she said nothing, his voice rose.“Where did she go?”Sabine shrugged. “And you think I’m going to tell you?”His eyes went cold. “Sabine, I’m not in the mood for games.”“Oh, the Alpha’s in a hurry now?”She rolled her eyes, crossed the room, and pulled the front door open.“Get out. You’re not welcome here.”Stellan didn’t move.“We were supposed to bond again today. She can’t just disappe

Chapter 6

Stellan’s POVStellan returned to the Pack House on instinct more than thought. The moment he opened the door, his gaze went automatically to the living room.Every other time he had rejected Elowen, she had come back once Tamsin left SilverMoon territory. She would return with new plans for their next Marking Ceremony. She would change the sheets in their bedroom, put their things back where they belonged, and slowly restore the house until it looked like theirs again.Today, there was nothing. The Pack House was unnaturally quiet.“Stellan?”A familiar voice floated down from upstairs. His heart lurched. For one reckless second, hope flashed across his face. Then he looked up.It wasn’t Elowen.Tamsin came down the stairs in a robe, smiling as though everything had gone exactly as planned.“You’re back.”Stellan’s face went cold.“You were supposed to leave today.”He remembered the promise he had made Elowen the night before. Once Tamsin was gone, he would take her back as his mate.

Chapter 7

Elowen’s POVWhen the plane touched down, I looked through the window at an unfamiliar city and felt as though I had stepped out of another life. The moment I came through arrivals, I saw my father. His shoulders were slightly stooped now.The man who had once dominated every room he entered had gone gray at the temples, and when he saw me, his eyes reddened immediately.Years ago, when the Reed family moved most of its business beyond SilverMoon territory, I had refused to go. I chose Stellan. I stayed behind to become his Luna, defied my father, and eventually cut ties with my family altogether.I hadn’t seen them in eight years.“Dad…” My voice broke.I ran into his arms.“I was such an idiot. I threw away my family for Stellan.”He held me tightly. He didn’t lecture me. He didn’t remind me that he had warned me.He only said, “You’re home now.”My eyes burned again. For years, I had treated Stellan as home—a man who had rejected me seven times for Tamsin. It had taken me far too l

Chapter 8

Three years passed faster than I expected.I worked my way up from the bottom until I was running the company. The day my father finally signed over full control, he slid the papers across the desk.“It’s yours now.”I looked down at the signatures and thought of the woman I had been three years earlier—the one who could barely make it through a board meeting without falling apart.Callum sat beside me, drinking coffee.“Don’t get emotional yet. I raised next quarter’s target by fifteen percent.”I picked up the nearest folder and threw it at him.He ducked, laughing.Over those three years, he somehow found his way into almost every major moment of my life. When I closed my first acquisition on my own, he took me out to celebrate. I had far too much to drink, and he ended up carrying me from the bar back to the hotel. The next morning, I found him in the suite’s living room watching financial news. I pressed a hand to my forehead.“Tell me I didn’t do anything humiliating last night.”

Chapter 9

I made Callum wait until the next day before I agreed to see him. He sat on the sofa in my office without the slightest trace of guilt.I dropped a file onto the desk.“Explain.”“What part?”“All of it.”He considered that.“I’m a werewolf.”“No kidding.”“Alpha of the Stormridge Pack.”“I know that now too.”He looked at me.“I knew the first time I met you that you had been a Luna.”My hand stopped. For once, the amusement left his face.“A mate rejection leaves a trace. Yours was faint, but I could still smell it.”“Then why didn’t you tell me?”“Tell you what?”His eyes held mine.“That I knew you’d been rejected again and again? Or that the first day I met you, I could tell your wolf was so weak she could barely wake up?”I went quiet.Callum leaned back.“You were already having a terrible day. I didn’t see any reason to make it worse.” His mouth tilted. “As for what I was, you never asked.”I glared at him.“What about golf?”“What about it?”“Were you cheating when we played?”

Chapter 10

A month later, Callum and I held our Marking Ceremony in Stormridge territory.Sabine arrived three days early and spent half the time helping me with my dress and the other half telling Callum exactly what she thought of his three-year performance as a “human.”Callum stood in the doorway and listened until she ran out of breath.“I never pretended to be human.”Sabine gave him a cold look.“Shut up, liar.”I laughed.Just before the ceremony, Callum’s Beta came in.“Alpha, Stellan is still outside.”My hands paused over my sleeve.“How long has he been there?”“Since last night.”Callum looked at me. He didn’t say a word. He simply waited.I smoothed the cuff of my dress.“I’m not seeing him.”A rough voice suddenly carried in from outside.“Elowen! Just come out once.”I didn’t turn around. Then Stellan shouted again, the wind carrying every broken word through the open corridor.“The healer says my wolf has less than three months to live. Please. If nothing else, pity me enough to
