ZAND “Now that the issue of the lands next to you has been sorted, I’m worried they’ll be endangered by the increase in visitors when the marketplace opens. You clearly don’t have the number of wolves needed to populate them, and Jax says you’re refusing to take any new wolves. How do you plan on protecting that area if you aren’t using it?” Valor asked as he flicked his finger over his tablet.I sat at one of his conference tables with all the Shadow Oak alphas, including their new budding alpha, Aldric. He was young, barely twenty. He still had a long way to go before he fully came into power, but it was evident he would be powerful when he did.Valor had introduced him and casually mentioned that he thought this meeting would be a good way to introduce Aldric to his future duties, but I could see behind the lie.In a few months, Valor would struggle to hold his two existing alphas and Aldric, too, and he was looking for a new pack for him.I still hadn’t accepted any new alphas, a

AMIA A heavy knock sounded at the door and pulled me out of a deep and thick sleep.Darkness filled the room completely and I rubbed my tired eyes with my hands.“Who is it?” I asked.“It’s me,” a voice answered. It was Luna. “Come in.”The door opened and shut again and left her standing in the dark shadows. She grunted in a clumsy way and then cursed under her breath. “Damn it, Amia. I need some light before I break my toe on something.”I almost told her that she could just leave if she wanted to be alone, but I reached across the messy bed instead and pulled the curtain back.Bright sunlight rushed into the room and made me blink hard. “Morning?” I asked.“It’s the middle of the afternoon, Amia. This behavior is not good for you at all. You have barely left this bed for a whole week now. It is bad for the baby inside you. You need some physical exercise.”“All the pregnant women who have ever been forced onto bed rest would completely disagree with you,” I grumbled, and then I fr

AMIA Zand sat me on my bathroom counter and lifted my foot to examine it."I like the dress," he said quietly."It's my revenge dress.""No, it's not. You wore it because it reminded you of the dress I picked out for you for our ball. You wore it for me," he said cheerfully."I did not! What is wrong with you? Why are you so happy? I told you what would happen if you came to me again, and you did it anyway!"I tried to ignore the way my body reacted as his hands circled my ankles."Have you lost your mind?" he asked. "You never said that.""I didn't? Huh. It must have been in my head."His finger swept under my foot, and I inhaled sharply as pain shot through me.It was hardly anything, but he growled anyway."Besides, I wasn't coming to you," I said. "I was stopping two idiots from ruining the party I've spent night and day planning.""You still have a scar."He kneeled down to examine my foot and gently pulled a jagged piece of glass out of it."Are there others?"The cheerfulness

AMIA“How can I trust you? I feel like I barely know anything about you,” I whispered. “You kept so much from me.”“I did. And you did the same thing. So let me tell you everything I’ve been hiding. I’ll start with the first time I saw you.”Zand reached for my hand and held it gently.“It’s no secret that I came there to win over the Shadow Oak Alphas and find an omega. At the same time, I was doing everything I could to stay away from King Orion. I hadn’t had many chances to prove that he wouldn’t recognize my scent, so I was careful. I watched every move I made. I thought about every step before taking it.”He paused and looked at me.“Then I saw you.”His fingers tightened slightly around mine.“My wolf claimed you immediately. There was no arguing with it. You were calm, elegant, and beautiful. The only thing I wanted was to see you smile. I wanted to see that little spark in your eyes. I wanted to touch you.”“You did all of that,” I said with a small laugh. “And a little more.”

EpilogueZAND Five Years Later"You think you're strong enough to take me?""I am your king."My threat only made them smile as they came toward me.To my horror, I took a step backward. For one terrible second, I wondered if I was actually going to surrender."You swore you would protect me at all costs," Amia said beside me.There was only the smallest tremble in her voice, but I heard it."Zand, please.""You got us into this mess," I growled."This is your fault."A pack of wolves howled somewhere behind us.The sound pulled my attention away for only a second. That was all my attackers needed. They rushed me with excited screams. Before I could react, they slammed into me and sent me over the edge.I hit the water flat on my back with a loud grunt. The cold water closed over me, and I sank like a stone.I turned around quickly, planted both feet against the ocean floor, and pushed myself upward.I broke through the surface just in time to see my two attackers flying toward me.T
