My consciousness sank into darkness. When I opened my eyes, I was floating in midair inside the attic.Music from the banquet drifted up from below. I drifted through the door and down to the first floor. The display case in the hallway was lined with Clara's awards and trophies, accumulated over a lifetime.Every single one had been polished to a shine. At the very bottom of the case, shoved beneath everything else, was a family portrait I had drawn as a child. But the figure of me standing in the corner had been scribbled over with black ink until my face was unrecognizable, as if to make one thing clear.I, their daughter, had never been meant to exist in this family at all."Where's Iris? Today is her twentieth birthday, and you're still keeping her locked in the attic?"Edmund sat at the head of the table, his brow furrowed. He was the former Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, and his words still carried weight.Helena's expression soured."Edmund, why bring her up?"The prophecy is s

Crack!A palm slammed down hard on the table.Kael shot to his feet from his seat in the corner, fists clenched, eyes rimmed red."I've put up with the way you've treated her until now."But you're actually going to send her to the correction camp at Western Ridge? Do you even know what that place is? Nine out of ten who go in don't come out alive!"This isn't discipline. You're sending her to die!"Helena's face went rigid."You've overstepped! Our family's affairs are none of your business!"Do you know how much Clara has suffered because of her? Sending her to the camp is for her own good!"Kael's lips twisted into a cold, bitter smile. His gaze fell on Clara's pale face, and his contempt was unhidden."The engagement was something you forced on Clara. I never agreed to it."In my heart, Iris has always been my only fiancee. From the beginning."And today, I'm taking her out of that attic."He turned and headed for the staircase.Helena lunged to block him, but he shoved her aside.

The wind off Silver Moon Bay carried the damp bite of salt. For three days, my parents stayed with Clara along the shore. They strolled on the fine sand under the moonlight, laughing at the shimmer on the water.I drifted behind them. No one could see me. No one cared. For one fleeting, childish moment, I had imagined that when they learned I was dead, they would crumble with regret. But watching the contempt and satisfaction hidden beneath Clara's gentle mask, even that small hope turned laughable.I was trapped in this ghostly existence, unable to do anything but watch it all unfold.Over those three days, servants from the main house made three separate trips, each one arriving pale-faced to report that the stench from the attic was growing worse. The smell had spread into the hallway, and insects were pouring through the gap beneath the door. They asked permission to open it.But every time Helena began to waver, Clara would pull out her phone at just the right moment. The screen s

Every pair of eyes in the room turned to Clara. But Clara had gone still. She rose from the floor, brushed the dust from her skirt, and let out a cold, sharp laugh."That's right. It was all me."Those messages, every single one. I sent them from her phone. So what?"Her voice climbed. Her face twisted into something ugly and unhinged. "Why? Why did Kael only ever have eyes for her?!"Why did you always value her more when we were children, while I had to fake illness every single day just to earn a scrap of your attention?!"I wanted her dead. I wanted her gone forever!"Roland was shaking from head to toe. He slapped her across the face."She's your sister!"The sound echoed through the attic.Clara's head snapped to the side from the blow, but she smiled, staring straight at Roland."What gives you the right to hit me? Aren't you the ones who killed her?"All because of one ridiculous dream. You locked her up for three years, poured that potion down her throat for three years. She n
