Chapter 11

(Alessandro's POV)Back in New York, Mia had somehow gotten the news and blocked Alessandro on the tarmac, refusing to let him leave."Alessandro, Jane already dumped you to marry another man, why are you still going after her?!"She screamed and cried at him hysterically, her tears spilling uncontrollably. But Alessandro didn't show her an ounce of softness like before. He radiated pure ice."Jane is just still mad at me. Once I apologize, she'll come back with me.""You're going to bring her back? What about me, what about me!" Mia grabbed his arm, looking deranged. "You obviously like me too! She doesn't want you anymore, wouldn't it be perfect if we were together?!"Like Mia?Absolutely impossible!Alessandro ruthlessly ordered his guards to drag her away, glaring at her with unconcealed disgust."Who said I like you? From start to finish, I've only ever given my heart to Jane!"The heartless words pierced Mia's chest. She stared at the man in disbelief. The gentleness that had bro

Walking out of the chapel, I stared at the wedding ring on my finger—the symbol of the Caruso family's Donna—and felt a little dazed. So the marriage I had waited four years for only took half an hour.I traced the inside of the ring, rubbing my thumb over our initials."So... this is what it feels like to be a Don's wife."He couldn't suppress a smirk, raising an eyebrow."The feeling of being a Don's wife... what exactly does it feel like?"His voice was intimately soft. He leaned in without warning, his lips just a centimeter from mine, making my face burn red.Just as the distance between us was closing, a trembling voice shattered the moment."Jane!"Alessandro's eyes were bloodshot. His fists cracked as he clenched them, his eyes glued to the Caruso ring on my finger."You... you married him?"I didn't give this uninvited guest a friendly look.I frowned, my eyes screaming that he wasn't welcome."Yes, as you can see, I am married."Beside me, Xavier naturally wrapped his arm aro

Alessandro staggered backward, the color draining from his face inch by inch. His lips trembled, but clinging to one last shred of hope, he forced out a smile uglier than a cry."What... what are you talking about, Jane?"Seeing him still trying to lie, the irony in my heart almost overflowed."Drop the act. I saw you cross out the Council's approval with a red pen with my own eyes.""You claim you love me, but for Mia, you changed the approved marriage applications to rejections for four years in a row. And on our 10-year anniversary, you were making out with her in a stairwell. Is this what you call love?""Sorry, but that kind of dirty love disgusts me."Xavier only knew that Alessandro had delayed marrying me for four years, but he had no idea I had suffered so much.He wrapped his arm tightly around my waist, enveloping my hand in his, looking at me with pure heartache.I turned my head and gave him a relieved smile. The past was the past. I wasn't going to let it hurt me anymore.

Just then, a tearful voice called out from behind."Alessandro!"Mia had secretly followed him to Italy. She ran up, trying to pull him up from the ground."You saw it yourself just now! Jane is just a vain, gold-digging bitch! She already dumped you for another man! I am the only one who will love you forever!"Seeing him so broken made her heart ache, but her voice also carried a hidden thrill."Come back to New York with me, okay? I'll stay by your side forever, I'll help you run the family, I'll never—""Shut up!" Alessandro interrupted her with bloodshot eyes. He grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against the wall, his eyes radiating bone-chilling cold."Don't you dare talk about her with your dirty mouth! She's not a gold digger. I am the one who hurt her!"He violently threw her aside. Mia stumbled and almost fell. She looked at the man in disbelief. He literally just watched Jane being intimate with another man, and he was still defending her!Endless jealousy twisted he

(Jane's POV)Three days before the wedding, Xavier and I were at the bridal boutique for the final fitting. When the curtain was pulled back, everyone in the room gasped in awe."Oh my god, Miss Jane, you look absolutely stunning.""Right? She and Don Xavier are a match made in heaven."I felt a bit shy from the compliments, but my eyes slowly took in my reflection in the mirror.Xavier knew I was a perfectionist about wedding details, so he had a vintage wedding dress hand-embroidered with top-tier crushed diamonds flown in from Paris. The dress was entirely hand-sewn, the skirt shimmering under the lights, making my skin look incredibly pale and glowing.I instinctively brushed my hand over the tulle skirt, feeling a bit dazed.Four years ago, when I first came back from Europe, I thought I'd be marrying Alessandro right away.So I dragged him to bridal shops multiple times, so excited to pick out a dress.Alessandro never stopped me, but whenever I suggested he get a suit tailored t

Mia's voice slithered around me like a venomous snake."Mia, what do you want?"I kept my voice as steady as possible so I wouldn't trigger her."What do I want?""You're already getting married, so why are you still fighting me for Alessandro?""I've loved him for years, how am I any less than you!"She got more and more agitated, pressing the gun harder against my head.Seeing my stiff body actually excited her."Once you're gone, Alessandro will finally see me and be with me!""Shut up and move!"With one hand pressing the gun to my head and the other grabbing me, Mia dragged me out the back door of the dressing room.Along the way, she expertly avoided the estate's infrared cameras. The lakeside estate chosen for the wedding was just a short walk from an abandoned pier on the Italian border.Mia hauled me all the way to the edge of the pier. She shoved me hard to the ground, aimed the gun right at my heart, looking completely deranged."Well, Principessa, never thought you'd fall i
