What Are The Best Episodes Of High School DxD?

‘High School DxD’ Season 1, Episode 12 ‘A Devil in a New Dress’ (dubbed) is an awesome episode and for many reasons. For one, it covers a lot of Issei’s character development in his first real challenge. You can really feel the tension as he faces off against a new foe and new characters are introduced. Plus the humor is also very good. Conversely, Season 4, Episode 1 ‘The Legend of the Holy Sword’ is a really cool starting point for the new story and it has a lot of action as well as gives you more insight into the history and lore behind the anime. It sets up the rest of the season really well too.

Choosing the best episodes of ‘High School DxD’ is a tough job. There are so many great scenes of action, humor, and much more. One of the better episodes in my opinion is Season 2, Episode 8, ‘I Am Who I Am’. This episode focuses on Issei struggling to cope with the fact that he is a vessel of a dragon. It follows him through many intense battles and dramatic scenes. It also looks into the relationship that he shares with Rias and the rest of his friends and how much he wants to protect them. The action scenes are incredible with wonderful visuals. The whole episode creates a great sense of momentum and is a really good watch for fans of the series.

Season 3, Episode 5 – The Taming of the Shrew is an amazing episode as well. First of all, the combination of humor and plot is just great. We get to see Issei trying his best to manage his harem while at the same time trying to grow up and become a better leader for the Devils. The training scene with all the Devils is amazing. The whole scene is so funny and at the same time so endearing to the characters. You really get to see the friendships and teamwork between all the characters. The way the new characters are being integrated into the cast really adds a lot of depth to the series as a whole. I had a lot of fun watching Issei try to do his best in all the given situations.

The combination of great storylines with crucial action scenes makes ‘High School DxD’ so great. So if you’re a fan of the show, maybe it’s time to revisit some of the best episodes of ‘High School DxD’ again – it’s like hanging out with your super-powered friends again!

That said, I feel that the High School DxD series as a whole peaks at around Hero (Season 4). After a somewhat mediocre Season 3, Season 4 returns to form in terms of feeling generally good. It is beautifully animated by Passione, and each character looks great. The episodes largely follow the light novels, which is always a plus. The three episodes at the end of Season 4 — episodes 10-12 — form a near flawless trilogy of a meeting to plan something in-depth, farewells to say to friends before a massive battle, and said massive battle against the Hero Faction. All-in-all great direction, great pacing, and completes the pay-off to several long-running character arcs. This would be the arc of Season 4 that I would suggest watching in order to prove to others that DxD is a legitimate good battle harem.
