Some major character deaths occurred in the final book like Newt and Teresa. Thomas, Brenda, Jorge, and Gally all survived the game to get to the Safe Haven with Brenda. For a different kind of high-stakes survival game, I’m currently reading ‘Bloodscript: Survival Game of the Reborn’. The main character wakes up in a brutal arena with no memory of who he was before only to discover a mysterious script that has started writing itself. It dictates and predicts the main threats to the main character’s life. So the protagonist has to constantly weigh using the warnings to survive against the possibility that the script is controlling him and being against his best interests.

THE DEATH CURE—The Ending Still Gives Me The Neck Hair Syndrome Man. It has been far too long since I finally got to read THE DEATH CURE, the third and final installment of The Maze Runner series by James Dashner. Even though it has been a while, the movie’s ending still makes my chest feel funny in a good/relieved/eerie sort of way. You will find MAJOR SPOILERS below, as we discuss who dies and who makes it in the book and on screen for the core group and a few of the supporting characters. I will also lay out some of the differences between The novel and the movie for a couple of the major players, as the book and movie treat them a little differently.

Let’s start with the major characters that we already know and love within the core group of the movie’s ending. Thomas survives the great plague and gets to proceed to the community where he can start rebuilding with Brenda (who also survives the great plague) in a somewhat positive manner to end his long and arduous arc. Minho also manages to survive the great plague in addition to remaining solid and intact and Minho is one of the clearer survivors. Brenda also survives, which is good for Thomas, and seems to have had ended her long arc of desire for Thomas well. And in terms of how the book dealt with Teresa, she also manages to survive the great plague as well, in addition to having her long and strange relation with Thomas to end in a somewhat positive light as well (complicated and all, but she lives in the end). Newt does not survive the great plague, however. As the book had detailed, the plague causes him to eventually and incurably contract the Flare. In the end, Newt has Thomas kill him (after some difficulty and self-hatred on the part of Newt), and it is perhaps the most heart-wrenching moment of the series. Earlier Gladers such as Chuck, Alby, and Gally all died in earlier books, so do not appear in the movie’s ending.

If you watched the movie adaptation of The Death Cure, then you might recall that the big name characters all survived with the exception of Newt. Brenda, Teresa, Thomas, and Minho all make it through to the new world that the protagonist Thomas isportrayed to be creating for future communities. There are, however, some scenes, characters, and plot points that are cut from the movie in order to allow it to fit within the confines of a standard length feature. Some of these omitted scenes and characters include side characters, parts of subplots, and a few minor characters. There are several of these characters whose fates get altered in different ways between both the novel and the film, and I can get into the details of these characters and their various outcomes next.

For me, the mix of good and bad is what’s been left to simmer with me longest, and I have noted down a lot of those smaller moments which have left an impression on me – a line that Minho has spoken, the look that is exchanged between Thomas and Newt in one particularly heart wrenching moment, Brenda’s pragmatic nature and her quiet warmth towards Thomas. If you’d like me to list out all of the minor characters who have died and/or survived in both the novel and film, then let me know and I shall provide you with a full list. The fate of a few characters will vary between novel and film, and I have a lot to say on the subject of those characters as well.

scrolled back up the page to see who had asked the question. It was someone way up at the top of the page, and by the time I got to read their question, someone else had answered it. I haven’t read the Twilight books since I was in my early 20s, but I do remember that the movie was pretty different from the books. Did the movie kill off a character who was still alive in the books, or did the books kill off a character who was still alive in the movie? I really should re-read these books instead of relying on my hazy memories. I’m sure someone else in this thread has a definitive list.

So, after all of that, the six people who make it in The Death Cure are Thomas, Minho, Brenda, Frypan, Jorge, and Gally. Newt and Teresa do not. Even in the movies, there are some changes, but in the books the list of people who survive is fixed. What happens to the survivors after the story is almost as interesting as the story itself, and that is explored in the later books and in some of the supplementary stories. For the purposes of this trilogy, though, the six mentioned above go to the afterlife promised to them at the end of The Maze Runner.

There are many qualities that each of the surviving members of the group bring to the Safe Haven. Thomas brings leadership and the ability to understand others. Minho brings physical strength, honor and a sense of duty to protect others. Brenda brings reality and a sense of life outside of the newbie-free Safe Haven. Frypan brings optimism to light in the worst of times. Jorge brings wisdom from past experiences to help Safe Haven members in their time of need. Gally brings a knowledge of where they went wrong in the past and a chance to redeem himself. Together, I believe, they have the capability and the tools to start and build a thriving community of their own. The people that died brought the final pieces of the cure and the reason for so much pain for their loss to the new world.

what was the point of the maze in maze runner

8 Answers2025-08-01
The Glade served as a ruthless selection process in the maze. All of the people in the Glade were not intended to make it through. The maze killed people every day, and it wore people down slowly. By the time the Griever hole opened up, only the toughest, smartest, and most driven individuals in the Glade remained. These were the people who were to enter into Phase B of the experiment, and they were the cream of the crop. They had already survived against insurmountable odds, and were ready for whatever the rest of the experiment threw their way. The point of the Glade was to have attrition, or natural/unnatural selection, to pick the best subjects for the rest of the experiment.

Who dies in the Maze Runner Scorch Trials movie?

5 Answers2026-04-05
Winston’s fate at the end of the ‘Scorch Trials’ chapter is very brutal. He is left to withdraw on his own and turn into a Crank, in a very gruesome scene. Another kind of death for Winston is Teresa’s betrayal. This movie is way darker than the first one, as a lot of side characters die very fast. But it’s not really about that. Every death in the movie draws attention to how the noose of danger is getting tighter and tighter for the Gladers.

How many pages are in the maze runner the book?

6 Answers2025-06-02
My take on this is that counting pages is somewhat juvenile. Just as one would not judge the quality of a meal by its weight, “The Maze Runner” can be judged by its flavor: cold sweat, metal, and an overwhelming sense of hope. The pages, 384 in total, are merely the plate upon which this all is served. There are plenty of books out there that should be longer, in a slower, more whimsical shape. But this novel is a fast-food burger of a book: it’s a quick, hot, tasty, immediate experience. And that’s just fine. Not every novel needs to be a seven-course, slow-cooked, complex meal. Some books are just meant to be eaten immediately and tossed away. This book is a page-turner that serves its purpose within its given length.

What age group is maze runner 1 book appropriate for?

I never thought of The Hunger Games to have an age. I read them in 9th grade after my friend left them on her desk and I was immediately hooked. It felt like that book was meant for me to read. I guess it finds the right person to read it at the right time.

This is really a great thread for discovering new (even often overlooked) options to paid streaming services like movies and TV shows through library apps. Rather than rely on some random blog post that likely contains an affiliate link or two, this type of crowdsourced information is far more valuable.

Which characters die in the final battle of insurgent?

5 Answers2025-10-21
Here's how I can summarize Insurgent for my friends. Insurgent ends with a big showdown between Tris and Jeanine Matthews. In the end, Jeanine ends up being killed by Tris which is very traumatic for her as well as the rest of the characters. There were many deaths during the battle but most of them were factionless as well as soldiers and Dauntless fighters who were fighting on the other side. However, Four/Tobias, Christina, and the rest of the protagonists survive the battle. This leads to the rest of the book dealing with how they deal with trauma from the events that took place in Insurgent and Jeanine's death. That one act is what makes the ending so emotional and not a simple victory for the good guys. It’s a complicated ending and for me that ambiguity is what I will remember most about this book.

Does Beetee survive The Hunger Games trilogy?

2 Answers2026-04-30
So Beetee makes it through the war? Considering how much time he spends buried in the sub-circuits of different machines, I was shocked he survived. I particularly loved how Beetee managed to splice that lightning rod in the Quarter Quell, and by Mockingjay he is (once again) brilliant in supporting Coin’s team in sabotage against the Capitol’s propaganda. Collin’s managed to create a reasonable arc for the wily scientist and returned inventor. His peaceful return to innovating after the war is impressively low-key and thoughtful. It was an easy kill for dramatic purposes that Collins wisely avoided. In doing so, he gives a nice nod to all of the unher0 typical geniuses that are pitted against human crisis in his stories.

What inspired James Dashner to write the Maze Runner book series?

11 Answers2025-09-16
This slang is so much fun to read. ‘Shuck it all.’ That sounds so cool to say. I imagine Dashner having a lot of fun making up all this slang for the world of Maze Runner. Writers are often just playing with language when they write and that can be the seed for an entire culture. Probably he thought of it and said ‘what would these kids swear with?’ and just kept going from there.

Who dies in Terminal List book 3?

11 Answers2025-08-21
After reading this book I needed some time to process it and just sit quietly for a bit. The cumulative effect of the violence throughout the story is what really took its toll on me and the way I viewed the major death scenes was slightly different each time because of the way that Carr wrote them and how they affected Reece throughout the rest of the book. Each time someone important to Reece died (such as Raife’s family members) they were caught in the crossfire of something and it happened so fast and so suddenly that it was truely tragic. Because of the way that Carr wrote the deaths of these characters though, you can see how they affected Reece and how they furthered the story. By the end of the book Reece’s existence was very narrowed down to focus all of his rage on one person and his mission to complete. It’s a very bleak outlook for Reece but it’s also very compelling because it feels real. The action scenes in this book were technical and amazing but the really emotional scenes of grief and reflection after things had gone down really stuck with me long after I finished reading the book. I really understand why Reece made the choices that he did but I’m very worried about where his choices will lead him. This book is a great example of building a protagonist through their losses, not through their victories. This book and the rest of the series is a tragedy wrapped in a thriller’s packaging and the third book cemented this for me.

How does twelve end and who survives at the finale?

3 Answers2025-10-21
If you thought of ‘Twelve’ as a character-driven thriller, then the ending functions perfectly as an epilogue to the main story. It’s much smaller in scope but equally as powerful in terms of emotion. After the split in the group and the very risky plan they carry out, there are only a few people left. Of the main characters, only Maya, Jonah and Cass survive. They are all deeply scarred by what they have been through but they also have something precious: each other’s company, and the knowledge that they have been through an incredible shared experience. It was also really great to see the finale choose to depict their survival in low key and quiet moments of repair: fixing a broken radio, eating a simple meal together, and even sharing a short moment of humor. The ending is incredibly small and simple, but beautiful. The final lines are a mere breath of human connection and hope. I smiled, and then felt a pang of loss. Just as I should have.
