Can I Combine The Crescent Moon Emoji With Other Emojis?

By combining the crescent moon with simple combinations, it instantly becomes recognizable to anyone scrolling through their feed. So I use 🌙✨ for anything whimsical, 🌙💤 for my late night logs and 🌙🖤 for anything moody late at night. It’s a nice trick I picked up a while ago and it still always makes me giggle. It’s actually not making a new single emoji character when you ‘mix and match’ as you called it. Different platforms will render spacing and size of the mixed emoji differently. (For example, the crescent moon emoji does not take a skin tone modifier and is not part of most zero-width-joiner sequences of family-like emoji characters, so you would not get a fused character as with other families of emoji, such as hearts or smiling faces). To make mixed emoji more accessible to users, it’s a good idea to add a short caption or to add alt text to the emoji-only post. Also, be aware of the order in which you place the mixed emoji characters. Placing the moon at the beginning of the sequence of characters will usually render to create a night-time theme for the rest of the line of characters, whereas placing the moon at the end of the sequence of characters will usually render to give a closing flourish to the whole line of characters.
