Remarriage: marrying A Mysterious Ceo

A woman leaves her neglectful, cold CEO husband after many years of their marriage. She secretly raises their twins and starts a new life. Years later the man discovers the woman's success and finds out about the twins he's never seen before. He's filled with regret and he wants to win them back but it won't be easy. In 'The Billionaire’s Regret: Too Late to Love' the same setup of irreversible consequences for the main characters leads the male lead to realize too late that he's lost the woman he loved because he was too blind to see what was right in front of him.

The Secret is sort of impossible to keep in today’s age of genetic testing and social media, so a series would have to come up with some clever reason why or how this was kept a secret. The reason for the secret could be an entire book in itself. Perhaps the wife had help from a large organization? Perhaps the CEO’s own family was keeping the secret from him? The author would have to come up with a reason that makes sense to sustain the rest of the story. And if it is a series, I hope the author spent lots of time developing this core plot point.

The ending is so typical for a billionaire romance novel. Secrets are revealed, wounds are healed, and the couple drives off into the sunset. The female lead’s anger will be replaced with an understanding of the hero’s reasons for keeping her in the dark. He was probably trying to protect her from other gold-diggers or from his crazy family members. There’s often a grand finale of sorts – a public declaration of love, the launch of a charity in the heroine’s name, or even a surprise wedding redo with all the trimmings. We read the last chapters with smiles on our faces, knowing that they live happily ever after. And we might even get a glimpse of the heroines’ friends in future novels, just as dramatic and flawed as the main couple.

It ends with winter turning to spring. Literally. The final scene of the book is the first blossom on the apple tree outside her shop window after a long, dark winter. Her life with her husband was winter, but now she is experiencing a personal and perpetual spring. It’s a pretty classic literary device, but when you’ve spent hundreds of chapters with a character even the most overused of clichés can feel warm and earned. It’s a great way to visually bring to life the sense of closure and new beginnings that this character so rightly deserves.

I see this title a lot in my recommendations. I assume the algorithm knows that I like to read about angst.

'Remarried Empress' surprised me. The happy ending Navier received was not a simple negation of her previous pain, but a change to it for the better. The scene where she burned her old wedding dress was amazing and brought tears to my eyes. The whole thing was not some dramatic scene, but a moment of closure for her.

All the plotlines were wrapped up well, without overpowering the center of the story which is the relationship between the two women. I also really got to see a new side of strength – Navier’s greatest strength isn’t her intelligence or her title, it’s her ability to choose to be happy. That last illustration of her, smiling freely, is going to be embedded in my brain for a very long time.

I need an epilogue. I need to see them happy long after the story has ended. Sure, they can fall in love, but that doesn’t mean they’ll stay that way. So, I need to see them five or ten years after the fact. Still disgustingly in love, probably with a child who is a combination of both of them. They’ve built a life together. He’s not so consumed by work anymore. She’s doing incredibly well for herself. Seeing this future is key to understanding that even though they started out strangely, they are meant to be. This is the key to ‘happily ever after’.

I think one of the most entertaining CEO forced-into-marriage-for-inheritance storylines is that of the couple who starts off hating each other. Lauren Layne wrote a really fun book called “The Prenup” (Lauren Layne writes a lot of fun books). The leads are both lawyers, so their initial bickering is full of cute little pettiness like leaving mean notes on each other’s post-it notes. But it all transitions to a sweet inheritance tale when the CEO grandfather of one of the leads sets up the two of them to inherit a fortune if they just get married and stay married for a long time, and it takes them a while to actually start to like each other.

Novels like The CEO’s Substitute Wife and Married by Monday are webnovels that primarily fall under the melodrama category. This means much of the plot can be quite over-the-top at times, but The CEO’s Substitute Wife works because the male lead is often mean to the female lead due to him hiding the pain of past events. In addition to that, the two work to try and bring down each other’s armor and earn each other’s trust and affection. The other novella is Married by Monday which is a fairly lighthearted story. The main characters start off fake marrying each other by Monday, but by the end they realize that they have fallen in love. It is also an inheritance novel, though an unusual one. The conditions left by the female lead’s eccentric aunt are pretty quirky. This is another reason why the forced marriage novels work so well. They combine high stakes and intimacy. The two characters are fighting to earn the fortune that the other is trying to claim, but they are also fighting to earn each other’s love.

I really loved the happy ending in this novel, although it required me to suspend my knowledge of corporate law and the way in which HR policies are actually implemented. The Billionaire CEO of a huge multinational company falls in love with a mid-level employee, and as a result of their love, he totally remakes his life. His whole world is rearranged to fit her in. This is the ultimate fantasy, in which love is so powerful that it can actually change the power structures in place, and the hero’s world is rearranged to prioritize her happiness above all else. It’s totally over the top, but it was really fun to read.

Only on chapter 78! Try to keep spoilers out of this post, please. I was just browsing around because of the title, and I have to say, the book is so far really good.
