The shift is from a hero saving people to a hero frightening people. When civilians flinch away from him, that's the moment his arc truly fractures. He's become a symbol of fear, not safety. That's the ultimate betrayal of his dream. The volume changes his journey by making him confront the gap between his intentions and his impact. He wants to be the next Symbol of Peace, but he's inadvertently become a symbol of the chaotic, dangerous world. That irony is heartbreaking.

The most underrated change is in his voice. Not literally, but his narrative voice. The inner monologue of the anxious, detail-obsessed fanboy is silenced. He's operating on pure instinct and trauma-response. That loss of his analytical mind is a huge character shift. His arc becomes less intellectual and more animalistic. He's driven by fear and obligation, not by strategy and hope. Getting that inner voice back will be a key part of his recovery, I think.

It’s all about the eyes. Go back and look at the art. In early volumes, Deku’s eyes were wide with wonder or desperation. In the vigilante arc, they were shadowed, haunted. Volume 37 gives him a new expression: steady, resolved clarity. The change in his arc is mirrored literally in his face. He’s not looking inward at his own fear or upward at an ideal anymore; he’s looking forward, at the problem to be solved. Horikoshi is a master of using visual storytelling for character development, and this is a prime example. The arc’s change isn’t just in dialogue or plot beats; it’s etched into every panel of Deku’s demeanor.

The sound design in my head while reading changed. Earlier fights were all about the impactful ‘SMASH’ sound effect. In volume 37, the ‘whoosh’ of Blackwhip, the silent panel of Float, the precise ‘click’ of a Gearshift adjustment become more prominent. The change in his arc is auditory in a metaphorical sense—it’s less about brute force impacts and more about the subtler sounds of controlled power. It signals a shift in the texture of his heroism. He’s not a hammer anymore; he’s a Swiss Army knife, and the narrative ‘soundtrack’ reflects that newfound versatility and precision.

After a car accident left me with amnesia, a woman claiming to be my girlfriend proposed to me in the most heartfelt way. Everyone around me said I'd been waiting for this moment for seven whole years and urged me to just say yes.
In my past life, I nodded along without thinking twice. Her childhood best friend, who turned out to be the long-lost biological son of my parents, ended up going with them to Neller City—and completely leapfrogged into a whole new social class.
As for me, I followed Estelle Camden back to her hometown and became just some ordinary guy from the countryside. Cooking, doing laundry, taking care of her bedridden father—I did it all, for thirty years straight.
But Estelle left to find work in the city just a year after we got married, and she'd only come back once every few years. The money she sent was barely enough to keep a beggar going.
It wasn't until I lay wasted away on my deathbed, barely clinging to life, that I finally saw the truth in her cold, calculating eyes. She let out a sigh of relief and confessed, "The couple who came looking for their child back then—they were your real parents. They're worth hundreds of millions. But you? You're so ordinary—what right did you have to that kind of life? So I gave the DNA test to Derek instead.
"Derek is handsome and clever. He deserves the good life way more than you do."
When she saw the rage burning in my eyes, she just gave a careless little smile. "You know, sometimes I actually felt guilty looking at you. But now, you're finally about to die—so I guess that's one less thing weighing on my conscience."
Right after she said that, I coughed up a mouthful of blood and died, seething with regret.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back in that hospital bed—and Estelle was asking me to marry her.
In a drought-ravaged apocalypse, I kept our entire apartment block alive with my “watermaker” ability.
But when I grew weak, my neighbors shattered my limbs and turned me into a living water source.
Later, when raiders stormed in, they dragged me out to take the blade for them, only to realize that even my severed arms could still produce water.
So, they shouted about “saving humanity,” then shoved me into the crowd and fled in the chaos.
People rushed forward one after another, tearing at my flesh.
But I didn’t die.
What was left of me fell into the hands of a monster, and I was subjected to inhuman torment day after day.
Ten years later, when the apocalypse finally ended, that monster tossed me into an incinerator.
Only then did I die.
When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the moment I first awakened my ability, just as my neighbor knocked on the door, begging for water.

This is the English Version of my story.
Hiraya Frost Akira is the unbeatable, undefeated, and fearsome underground fighter. Anyone who challenges her would be beaten into pulp, lives hanging by a thread.
People called her an incarnation of a devil. Her gaze alone could give you a cold sweat and make you feel an intense fear.
But then an accident occurred, and she transmigrated inside the body of the timid and weak Princess of Esperanza Kingdom.
Frost received the Princess's memory, and saw the suffering, pain and miserable life of the Princess inflected upon by her loved ones and the people around her.
Frost then bowed to help the Princess achieve happiness and exact revenge on her behalf.
Never would she have expected that her reincarnation would be the salvation and hope of the people in that World.
A week before the college entrance exam, my twin brother, Tristan Doyle, runs away with a delinquent. Our parents abandon their massive corporate empire and set out to search for him.
I intend to join the search, but a comment abruptly flashes across my vision.
"Don't go, Ryan! If you skip the exam too, your family is doomed!"
With no other choice, I shoulder the pressure and walk into the exam hall alone. Yet the moment the exams end, my parents return and lock me in the basement.
Ten years later, I finally escape, only to discover that Tristan has stolen my identity. He's celebrated as that year's top scorer, gets a degree from a prestigious university, and is even married to my former high-achieving girlfriend, Alisha Hudson. They share a perfect life with two children.
Furious, I attempt to confront them, but they bind me and throw me back into the basement.
As I howl in rage, my parents reprimand me, "Tristan was never as smart as you, and that delinquent tricked him into running away. There was no way he could've gotten into college on his own."
"You're his older brother. What's wrong with letting him have one thing? Stop being so selfish."
I break down completely and die in despair. Only after my death do I learn that Tristan was the one who sent that comment.
When I open my eyes again, I'm back on the day Tristan elopes with the delinquent.
The comment appears once more. As I stand there frozen, Alisha gently nudges me with a smile.
"Go study! Your whole family's counting on you."
I think we're watching him become the 'world's greatest hero' in the worst possible circumstances. All Might got to be a symbol in peacetime. Deku is earning that title in the middle of an apocalypse. His arc is defined by catastrophe, not celebration. He's becoming the greatest not through inspiring victory speeches, but through relentless, grim perseverance when all hope seems lost. It's a very different, more sobering path to the top.
