Penulis: Water Droplet

Chapter 1

Penulis: Water Droplet
“Apple, I'm about to die of thirst. If you have any water, please just give us a little.”

The familiar knock from my neighbor, Brian Lane, snapped me upright.

On the floor lay a stark, human-shaped puddle.

I realized at once that I had been reborn, back to the moment I first awakened my ability!

“Apple, why aren’t you saying anything? If you don’t open up, I’m breaking the door down!”

Brian started slamming against the door.

This time, I couldn’t let them discover my ability!

I quickly absorbed the water from my clothes, then dragged the fish tank with all my strength and shouted, “Don’t open the door!”

Before I could finish, the door burst open.

Crash.

The massive fish tank shattered over the puddle.

Brian’s mother, Jane Lane, who had barged in, saw the water on the floor and flew into a rage.

“So, Apple, you’d rather spill the water you’ve been hiding than give us a drop? I’ve never seen anyone as vicious as you!

“And here I was thinking of looking after you after your parents died. What an ungrateful wretch!”

“Mom, what are you saying?”

Brian tugged at her, disapproving.

“I’m sorry, Apple. I’ve got a fever, and the baby has no water to mix formula. My mom didn’t mean it. But…”

His tone shifted as his eyes quietly swept the room.

“There’s still so much water left. You must have some way of getting it, right?”

He forced a bitter smile.

“I can survive even if I have to drink my own urine. But look at my family—the kids, the old folks are all dying of thirst. Please… just tell me.”

If I hadn’t seen the cruelty with which he electrocuted me before, I might have fallen for his act.

In my past life, I was soft-hearted.

I charged the others in food for my help, but I never asked the Lane family next door for anything.

I gave to them for free.

I never expected them not only to be ungrateful, but to curse me for it.

“That’s it? You call that enough? What, you expect us to beg for it?”

“I think you’re just trying to let us die of thirst, you heartless thing!”

Francie Stone sneered at me, her tone dripping with mockery.

“Don’t think I don’t know. You’re trying to seduce my husband. How shameless.”

At first, Brian even put on an act and apologized.

But once he realized his lightning ability made him untouchable, he showed his true colors, knocking me unconscious and locking me up.

I tried to escape a few times.

The outcome never changed. Brian would snap my limbs and confine me to a fish tank, keeping me as his personal water source.

The memory ignited a surge of hatred in me.

He hadn’t awakened yet. This was the best chance to kill him!

But reason won out. I couldn’t take on so many people alone.

After a brief standoff, I lowered my head in feigned shame.

“I’m sorry, Brian. I found the water at the city park, but there’s not a drop left now. Really! I figured once you awakened your ability, you wouldn’t be lacking food or water anyway…”

Brian had been about to leave, but the latter half of my words made him stop short.

“Awaken an ability?”

“I heard it from others. If you run a fever, you’ll awaken an ability. You’re about to become someone important!”

I grabbed onto Brian, my expression pitiful.

“I didn’t mean to hide water. Please don’t be angry with me. Your wife has to feed the baby. It’s not easy for her. As long as you give me a sip of water…”

“Ah!”

Francie’s expression changed instantly. She slapped me hard across the face.

“Apple, have you no shame? Flirting with my husband right in front of me?”

Brian’s expression flickered. I threw my arms around him, looking up at him with pitiful eyes.

“Brian, I’m not trying to compete with your wife. I just want to serve you in her place.”

“Crazy bitch, get off!”

Francie flew into a rage, kicking me to the ground before dragging Brian away, cursing under her breath.

I immediately followed and knocked on their door.

“Please, Brian, just take me in!”

Under the blazing heat, my voice echoed through the entire apartment block.

“Damn it!”Victor flew into a rage. A massive blade came crashing down, and my head was severed.I could no longer make a sound. I stared straight at the blazing sun above, the light draining from my eyes.Victor went on the offensive, slaughtering without restraint, determined to silence everyone who knew before his weakness set in.But those who couldn’t win could still run. No matter what methods he used, he couldn’t track down them all.So, on the fifteenth, the battle of attrition began.“He’s exposed, Derek, now!”A strength-type ability user circled behind Victor and locked his arms around his neck.Derek hardened the earth into rock and smashed it down on him.Boom!Dust billowed, and beneath the stone, there was no movement.“Is Victor Kane dead?”Derek and the others approached cautiously and lifted the rock. Half of Victor’s body had been crushed beyond recognition. They checked and he wasn’t breathing.“He’s really dead!”“Derek, we did it!”The ability users erupted in che

Victor flicked his fingers.I felt my jaw wrench loose, a sharp pain tearing through the base of my tongue. Something wet and red dropped from my mouth. My eyes widened in terror. Two sharp cracks followed, and agony exploded from my knees. My legs were broken. The pain nearly knocked me unconscious, but all I could manage were muffled, meaningless sounds.“I told you that if you try anything, I have a thousand ways to make you wish you were dead.”Victor let out a cold laugh, turned cleanly, and gave orders to his men.“Apple Hayes tried to stir trouble within the base and has been punished. Put out an announcement. Starting now, I’ll handle water distribution myself. No one is to go near her, especially Derek Cole and Logan Price. “Have them sent out of the base tonight. Tell them supplies were stolen. And keep the rest under control.”“Yes, sir!”The footsteps faded. I lay there like a heap of broken flesh, unmoving even as the moon rose high.Every plan I had was seen through and

I backed away, my mind racing for a way out.“You know Sonny Shaw, right? The one who brought me supplies last time. He tried to take advantage of me, so I told Mr. Kane.”With nowhere left to retreat, a thin sheen of sweat formed in my palms, but I kept my expression calm as I pointed past Derek.“So by tomorrow afternoon, he’ll be nothing more than a bucket of blood.”Derek halted mid-step. I let out a cold laugh.“Mr. Kane locking me up—that’s between him and me. Since when did it become your place to interfere?“You do know he hates disobedient dogs more than anything, right?”Derek’s expression shifted between pale and flushed, clearly rattled, already starting to waver.Francie, both furious and anxious, snapped, “Apple, how dare you call Derek a dog?“Derek! She’s twisting everything! Even if Sonny gets killed, it’ll be because he offended Mr. Kane. What does that have to do with her?”She turned back to Derek, pleading,“Derek, you’re an earth-type ability user. Mr. Kane values

David’s eyes were bloodshot as he lunged forward with a scream. The sun blazed hotter and hotter, as if it meant to burn everything alive. Victor frowned, irritation flashing across his face.“Annoying.”David and the eldest nephew’s heads flew off in an instant.Francie collapsed to the ground, covering her mouth.Victor looked at me coldly, all patience gone.“Don’t keep me waiting.”A chill ran up from the soles of my feet. I didn’t dare delay any longer.“My ability is filtration. Wastewater, blood—I can purify anything with moisture in it.”I took out an empty bottle, dipped one hand into the pool of blood, and held the other over the opening. Clear water flowed steadily from my palm.Victor’s gaze sharpened.I paused, then glanced at the remaining people and said to him and his men, “Kill them too. When the blood spills, catch it in containers. Don’t waste it.”Blades shot out in rapid succession. In less than ten seconds, six lives were taken.“You missed one.”I pointed at Fra

A metal blade drove straight through my palm with a sickening thud. I screamed in agony.“I’m sorry, Mr. Kane! I admire you so much. The Lane family kept bullying me. I only used your name because of that. I was wrong, please spare me!”Victor stepped in front of me and crouched down, patting my cheek. His voice suddenly turned gentle.“If you want to be my woman, you need my permission first. Understand?”Cold sweat poured down my back as I nodded frantically. The blade in my palm twisted a full half turn.“Ahhh—!”“But mistakes have consequences.”Through my screams, Victor spoke casually, “Tell me. I never gave you any water. Where did it come from?”“Brian gave it to me! And the other men in the building. I slept with them to get it!”“She’s lying, Mr. Kane!”The Lane family caught up in their car. Francie jumped out immediately.“My husband never touched her! She already had a whole barrel of water before this!“She lured my husband out and killed him, and now she’s trying to s

The Lane family exchanged uneasy glances, each seeing the same grim expression on the others’ faces. In the end, David spoke.“Untie her.”I flexed my numb wrists, trying to bring the feeling back into them.“Hmph. At least you know what’s good for you. For Brian’s sake, I won’t hold this against you.”Putting on a fierce front, I threatened Francie, “You’d better watch your mouth in front of Mr. Kane. Otherwise, I’ll have him kill you first and Brian will be mine.”“You—!”Francie trembled with rage.“Just you wait. The day you get dumped, I’ll skin you alive! By then, Brian won’t want you either, you ugly hag!”“Ma’am, Sir, that bottle of water is yours but don’t let Francie have a drop!”I tossed out the words, then turned and walked off with my head held high.Behind me, Francie shouted in fury, but my face instantly tightened with anxiety. My fighting ability was almost nonexistent. I had planned to rely on my memories from my past life, stock up on supplies, then head somewhere
