It's book two in a series. The author, Lillian Cole, has it listed as 'The Lycan King Series'. The first is 'The Lycan King's Mate', then this one. They follow a continuous storyline about the same central pair ruling their pack and facing external threats. You need to read them in order.

Honestly, I wish it was a standalone. It's part of a series, but the first book sets up the whole 'rejected mate' scenario, and this one continues the power struggle. I found the sequel to be a bit repetitive, like the author was stretching a single book's worth of plot into two. The relationship drama from the first installment gets rehashed with slightly higher stakes.
If you're deep into werewolf romance tropes, you'll probably enjoy the continuation. But if you're hoping for a self-contained story with a fresh arc, this isn't it. The ending also sets up for a third book, so be prepared for that.

I'm almost positive it's the second book in something called the 'Moonrise' series, or maybe 'The Lycan King's' series? I think the first one is 'The Lycan King's Mate' or something very close to that. I stumbled across 'The Lycans Queen' on an online app and was so confused for the first few chapters because characters kept referencing events I clearly missed. A quick search of the author's page confirmed it's a direct sequel.
It follows the same couple, Rylan and Selene, I believe, dealing with the aftermath of whatever happened in book one. So definitely not standalone—you'd be pretty lost jumping in here. The dynamics and the political conflicts build directly on the established world. I'd say track down the first one; the story makes a lot more sense that way.

I’m a girl without a Wolf. Sister to the future mate of the Lycan King himself.
For my entire life, I’ve lived in her shadow, in all my family’s shadow. An outcast or as good as. But the day the Lycan King ascends his throne, our Pack is attacked, and everyone is slaughtered.
Everyone except me.
For months I hide out like some feral creature in the jungle, only one day humans find me and I’m dragged before the Lycan King. But when our eyes meet I realize he is my mate. Not my sister’s.
Mine.
Only, there is a Wolf here, sat beside him already, a Wolf pretending to be my sister, claiming she is cursed so their bond will not form. And Adriel, King of the Lycan’s, seems torn between the mesmerizing creature who has her claws so deep into him, and me, his true mate.
But how can I convince anyone to choose a Wolfless girl, let alone the Lycan King himself?
What to expect:
Forced proximity
Dub Con
Non-Con (F on M)
Pack bullying
A rags to riches vibe.
The Awaited Lycan Queen

Aliyah was never meant to survive the night her pack fell. Captured and gifted like property to Leo, the future Alpha of the powerful Blood Moon Pack, she endured five long years in silence, humiliated, feared and hated.
Except him.
Leo was her only light in a world that wished she didn’t exist. Through small kindnesses and fleeting glances, a quiet bond began to form—something that made her believe she wasn’t truly alone.
But love was never enough.
Driven by hatred unknown to her, Leo’s mother forced Aliyah out of the pack with a forged goodbye. Heartbroken and unaware of the truth, Aliyah vanished.
She never expected the ambush that followed or the power that awakened under the full moon.
She didn’t just become a wolf.
She became something rarer.
A Lycan.
Eleven years later, Leo is a grown Alpha, hardened by grief and still haunted by her memory. When he steps into her new world, the past crashes back into them both, along with secrets about her bloodline and the role only she can play.
Now secrets are unraveling.
Old wounds are reopening.
And destiny is calling her home.
But after everything that tore them apart, can they survive what’s still to come?
Will they choose love or power?
Riley Ashford never wanted a pack, a mate, or a crown. Exiled for her wild defiance, she learned to survive on her own terms: free, reckless, and untamed.
Until the night she is captured by Kael, the ruthless King of Lycans—an ancient predator who rules not just with power, but with fear.
Kael has never shown mercy, never been tempted by women who only wanted his throne. Too docile, too boring, too predictable. But Riley is none of those things. She’s chaos wrapped in sharp teeth and sass, a wolf who dares to snarl in the face of a Lycan.
Forced into Kael’s world, Riley refuses to kneel, turning every humiliation into a battlefield of wit and defiance. But the more she fights, the more Kael finds himself drawn into the storm he swore he didn’t need.
Between deadly trials, court politics, and dangerous rivals who’d kill Riley just to get close to the throne, one truth becomes undeniable:
🔥 She might be his prisoner. She might even be his downfall. But she will never be anything less than his equal.
And the Lycan King has never met a queen like her.

"I accept your rejection, Colton. But I am not running away to die. I am coming for your crown."
Aria Hale was the Silver Crest pack’s dirty little secret. An orphan, a low-ranking omega, and a wolf who could barely shift. Broken and bleeding out from the severed bond, Aria flees into the forbidden Deadwood Forest—the territory of King Kaelen, the legendary and terrifying Lycan King.

Now, trapped in the Obsidian Court with a dark, seductive King who wants her power, Aria must learn to handle her new court. And when her former pack comes knocking on the castle gates, they won't find a crying omega. They will find a Queen ready to burn their kingdom to ash.

We're talking about 'I Am the Lycan's Luna'? Yeah, that's definitely part of a series. It's not a standalone. I found that out the hard way when I finished it and was immediately hit with a cliffhanger that left me scrambling to figure out what to read next.
The main storyline continues directly in 'The Lycan's Luna: The Rejected Mate,' which picks up right after the events of the first book. There's also a spin-off or a companion book focusing on different characters, I think it's called 'The Alpha's Hybrid Mate.' So if you're starting with the first one, just be prepared to commit to at least a couple more books to see how the core plot resolves. It's one of those web novel series that really hooks you in.
The first thing that popped into my head when I stumbled upon 'The Lycan King’s Hybrid Queen' was whether it’s part of a bigger universe. After digging around fan forums and author interviews, I realized it’s actually the second book in the 'Moonbound Alphas' series. The first one, 'The Lycan King’s Mate,' sets up the whole werewolf aristocracy dynamic, and this sequel dives deeper into the hybrid lore. I love how the author builds political tension between packs while keeping the romance spicy.
What’s cool is that there are subtle hints about a third book focusing on the vampire-werewolf alliance, but nothing’s confirmed yet. The way side characters like the witch coven get developed makes me think the series could easily expand into spin-offs. Honestly, I’d read a whole book about the snarky beta wolf who keeps stealing scenes.
I’ve dug deep into this. Officially, there’s no direct sequel yet, but the author hinted at expanding the universe in interviews. The ending left threads—like the rogue Lycan pack and the human-vampire alliance—wide open for exploration. Fan forums buzz about a potential spin-off centered on the second couple, whose chemistry nearly stole the show. The author’s Patreon teases ‘Project Moonbound,’ which might tie in.
What’s confirmed is a companion novella, ‘The Lycan’s Heir,’ releasing next year. It follows the queen’s adopted heir, a half-vampire child, navigating court politics. The lore’s rich enough for spin-offs: the vampire-werewolf wars, the fae lurking in the background, even the witch covens mentioned in passing. If you loved the world, keep an eye out—this universe isn’t done.
'The Lycan King's Hybrid Queen' is definitely part of a series. The author expanded the universe after the first book's success, crafting a rich world where lycan politics and hybrid abilities clash. The sequel delves into side characters' backstories, like the king’s rebellious brother and a witch coven’s alliance with the pack.
The third book even introduces a rival lycan kingdom, escalating tensions. Fans love how each installment layers new conflicts while keeping the core romance intense. The series balances action and steamy relationships, making it addictive for paranormal romance junkies.
