To me, spending coins is a hobby expense, much like my monthly comic book subscription. That is something that I consider in my budgeting. On occasion, I have had to cancel my comic book subscription when things got really tight, but by the next month, new issues were coming out and the ones that I missed were no longer missing. Stories will be there for me to read when I resubscribe for my daily VIP passes. The cost is there, but it is a discretionary expense, so I would not spend coins to read a story over paying for necessities to read the same story. The coin purchases should be considered in addition to the subscription cost and should not become another uncontrolled expense. I treat my subscription as my monthly maximum. I have been exploring much of what Mobi offers. There are many novels associated with popular TV series. Sometimes they are available by popular authors like The Handmaid’s Tale and Big Little Lies. Other times there are lesser known novels like The Last Kingdom series, which is my favorite.
Most of the TV novels Mobi stocks are big name titles such as The Handmaid’s Tale and Big Little Lies but there are also loads of lesser known novels based on TV programs which are equally as good. For example right now Mobi is promoting The Last Kingdom series of novels which are fantastic. Many of the novels that Mobi stocks are currently being made into TV shows and so can be read before they are released on screen. For example I read The Three-Body Problem on Mobi before the Netflix series was announced. There are not enough TV novels stocked by Mobi to satisfy all fans of the genre but there are enough to keep most fans happy.

In order to give users a true sense of premium though, I would want them to know that for that app in particular, we consider paid to be ad free, all of their content (including original exclusives) available to listen to unlimited times, higher quality audio than free, and downloadable to listen to later when offline.
The true cost to you of subscribing to an audiobook service versus buying individual audiobooks is the number of books you get to read/listen to in a given time frame for that price. For me, it would be around 2-3 books per month.
Consider your listening habits, whether you dislike the ads interrupting your story and whether you need to listen on the plane without Wi-Fi. The price for the above-mentioned conveniences is the toll you have to pay for them. For me, the ad-free experience was already sufficient after the first week of the free version.
