What transpires to be a classic sense of hating, in the beginning, rounds up to a touching instance of sacrificial love about Snape’s feelings for Harry’s mother Lily, and hence for Harry himself.

Well, this part of the Potterverse gets really deep. Voldemort's killing of Snape was a matter of convoluted intricacies, rooted in his beliefs about the Elder Wand's allegiance. Yet, Voldemort's misinterpretation led to Snape's tragic end. Snape dies, in the end, revealing another truth to Harry through his memories—a truth about his undying love for Lily Potter. Snape's death, thus, turned out to be one of the most heartbreaking moments in the books. Through his death, a misunderstood character transformed into a tragic anti-hero, etching a permanent place in readers' hearts.

However, their perfect love story is not quite so perfect. Ryle's shocking revelation about his aggressive reality throws Lily in turmoil. The love that once seemed beautiful is now infested with fear. A surprise reconnection with Atlas in a grocery store gives Lily a shred of hope and an alternate perspective on her marriage. Throughout the novel, we see Lily battling with her feelings for the two important men in her life. Her dilemma magnifies when she's torn between the love of Ryle and her lingering feelings for Atlas. Hoover does a brilliant job at characterization and you can feel the pain and struggle each character goes through. Ultimately, she decides to leave Ryle after an abusive incident. The sensitive theme of domestic abuse is handled wonderfully by Hoover in this plot twist. Lily chooses self-preservation and her love for Atlas reignites. Atlas welcomes her with tenderness and understanding. The ending sees Lily with her daughter, named after her mother Alyssa and Atlas, standing by her side. So yes, the story indeed ends with Lily finding her safe haven with Atlas.
