I reached my smaller bag and crouched down next to it, my hand extended toward the corner where the noise was coming from. "Come on out," I encouraged gently. "Whatever game you're playing, you win. You found a great hiding spot." I grasped the bag with both hands and started to move it aside, expecting to see a small child curled up behind it. But before I could even get it fully moved, something burst out from behind it. Something small and furry with long ears and way too many legs moving way too fast. I screamed. A real, genuine, horror movie quality scream that came from somewhere deep in my chest and tore out of my throat before I could stop it.
