Blood and Inheritance
Her face was grim, every twitch of Serena’s body making her flinch as if their fates were bound together.
Something wasn’t right.
The more I looked, the more alike the two of them appeared. A horrible thought struck me.
The footage rolled on. Serena now gripped a baseball bat, swinging down viciously across Lila’s back. Lila just stood there motionless like a wooden doll.
My heart split open. I rushed forward and tore Lila’s shirt away. Her back bore a livid, bloody welt, the skin split and raw.
I checked her arms and her ribs. There was layer after layer of injuries, old scars over fresh wounds.
