The socks were white knee high length with dark purple & golden yellow rings around the top of them, & her ties were a dark purple, golden yellow & black plaid. On top of the dresser she noticed 2 shoe boxes. Stella hadn't said anything about shoes being on the dresser. She opened the first shoe box to find a pair of modest black heels. They were close toed, & a shiny black, with a thick 4inch heel. They each had a thick shiny black strap with a gold clasp. She shut it & looked to the second box.

Hermione tuned them out, or tried to, until a woman’s voice called out her name. “Hermione!” The voice cut through the ambient chatter like a blade, stopping Hermione mid-step. She didn’t need to turn around to identify it. She’d know that shrill and performative tone anywhere. She closed her eyes briefly, composed her features, and turned around. Sarah Granger hurried toward her, red curly hair bouncing. Her purple sequined dress caught the chandelier light like a disco ball.
