5. The Roommate

Maeva pulled the keycard from her pocket & held it infront of the scanner. The door made a clicking noise that told her it unlocked. So, she pushed down on the handle before pushing it open & walking inside.

The inside of the room was decorated in hues of purple & white, & hosted 2 large windows on the far wall. A full sized bed sat under each window with a white wooden night stand on each side. There was a desk on the wall to the left of her, & a sitting area with a plush lavender couch to her right. On the far right wall sat another desk between 2 of the 3 doors.

"This is nice." David said as walked over to lay her pillow & blanket on the bed that hadn't been claimed. Her roommate had already been here & she wondered if they had passed her in the hall. A laptop sat on the desk on the right, and a bag, a pillow & a blanket sat on the bed to the right. Her designer luggage sat at the foot of the bed, showing that she had been here long enough for her luggage to be brought up already.

"Well, I suppose I'll go find my room & let you get settled in. Don't let them get to you, Maeva." David said as he motioned towards the hall. As an Omega he also knew all about the bullying of high ranked teenage wolves.

"I'll see you at dinner. I usually sit at the picnic tables on the far side of the courtyard near the training fields." He told her as he walked to the door. She nodded to him as he walked out the door, leaving her to her own devices.

She pulled her packpack off her shoulders & sat it on the desk. She began rummaging through it, pulling out her phone, the books & notebooks she'd packed for the ride, the plastic baggies of herbs she had been experimenting with back home, & the black velvet box with her new daggers inside. She placed the books on the desk, slid her phone into her pocket, & took the daggers, herbs, & 2 of the notebooks over to the bed. She slid the dagger box into the bottom drawer of her nightstand & lifted the mattress slightly to shove the herbs & notebooks under it.

One of the notebooks belonged to her dad, well, Daniel. When she was younger they would go for walks & he would pick herbs, flowers & berries, explaining their uses to her. He had kept a journal of them all, complete with description & uses of each. The other notebook was the one she used as a journal. Journaling was a habit she had picked up after Daniel's death. The pack counselor had suggested it as an outlet for her grief & she had been journaling ever since. She usually burned the notebooks once they were full to keep others from finding and reading them.

When she finished putting her belongings away, she decided to check out whatever was behind the 3 doors. She walked over to the far right of the room & opened the door closest to the window to reveal a bathroom with a double sink. It had a shower/bathtub combo along with a toilet. It wasn't huge, but both of them would be able to get ready in there comfortably.

She heard the bedroom door click open & the footsteps as they came into the room, so she made her way out of the bathroom. She was greeted by a pretty blonde girl with grey-blue eyes. She stood around 5'7" & her golden blonde hair hung just past her shoulders.

"Why hello there! I'm Stella. I suppose we're to be roomies this school year." She spoke in a cheery accent that Maeva couldn't place as she walked over to her bed.

"I'm Maeva, it's nice to meet you." Maeva told her with a smile.

"It's a pleasure Maeva. I hope you don't mind I've taken this bed. I have a habit of needing to use the loo late at night, so I figured if I was close to it I may not wake you when I go. The closet on the left is mine as well. I didn't choose it though, so whoever made the room assignments must have," she started as she lifted a suitcase onto the bed & began unpacking it, "I only know because I had a peek inside. School uniforms & athletic wear are already inside them & labeled with our names if you haven't seen yet." She said with a smile as she began carrying clothes to the closet door on the left.

Maeva walked over to the door on the right side of the wall & opened it to find a decent sized walk-in closet. As Stella had stated, her uniform shirts & skirts were hanging on the left side, each shirt with her name embroidered on the left side pocket. On her right side sat two dressers.

"Socks & ties are in one of the top drawers, athletic wear is in the drawer below them," Stella called out from her own closet. There was a full length mirror that hung on the far wall so she could see how she looked after she got dressed.

She took in her appearance as she stood there. She didn't look half bad considering she had spent 30hours on a bus. Her baby hairs had begun falling out of her braid, but she still looked decent. She would shower & change once her duffels were brought up she decided.

She looked over her uniforms. The shirt was a simple white blouse with her name embroidered in black, & the skirt was a simple black pleated skirt. She opened top drawer of the first dresser, & just as Stella said, she found her socks & ties. The socks were white knee high length with dark purple & golden yellow rings around the top of them, & her ties were a dark purple, golden yellow & black plaid.

On top of the dresser she noticed 2 shoe boxes. Stella hadn't said anything about shoes being on the dresser. She opened the first shoe box to find a pair of modest black heels. They were close toed, & a shiny black, with a thick 4inch heel. They each had a thick shiny black strap with a gold clasp. She shut it & looked to the second box.

It was an orange Nike box & inside were a pair of tennis shoes. They were a dark purple with light purple & white accents. Both pairs of shoes were her precise size. She wondered if all the students got shoes to go with their uniforms, but in her gut she knew that they didn't. The Headmaster had taken a liking to her, though she wasn't sure why. Sure she was a good fighter & student, but surely she wasn't the only one in the school.

"So what year are you Maeva? I don't think I've seen you around before," Stella asked her from the bedroom.

"You haven't. This is my first year." Maeva replied walking out of the closet.

"Huh. I tried to join a hybrid program my first year and the Headmaster said that I would have to wait until the end of first year to apply for one in my second year. Hence why I'm just now joining. How did you manage to get one? Special connections to the King?" Stella asked genuinely curious.

"Something like that." Gia giggled in her mind.

Had she not spent her entire life not knowing who she really was, she would have surmised that the Headmaster had figured it out. But that was impossible. She hadn't even known of her true identity until yesterday morning. She shrugged her shoulders towards Stella because the truth was, she had no idea how she had managed to get so much special attention.

"I guess the Headmaster thinks both my brains & fighting abilities are valuable assets to the kingdom," she replied.

"So your in the warrior & scholar programs too? Well that certainly makes sense as to why we would be roomed together," Stella told her. She sat on the bed contemplating the information.

"So which pack are you from & where is it located? I'm from the Midnight Moon pack, we're located in Southwest England, between Cambridge & London. My father is the Alpha of our pack, that is until my brother takes over in 2yrs. He's a 3rd year here so I'm sure you'll meet him soon. We usually eat in the gazebo just outside here." Stella said with a smile.

She knew she would have to share about herself as well. Stella seemed nice enough. It was obvious that unlike Stella, she hadn't come from money, just by her appearance. Perhaps she would be able to make friends just by her impressive warrior skills & intelligence. She certainly had managed to impress the Headmaster, though his blatant & obvious favoritism of her may make it a little harder.

"I'm from the Red Clay Pack, it's in Georgia. My dad trained the warriors there. He died in a rogue attack 3yrs ago though. My mom died when I was a baby so I don't know much about her. I'm honestly just happy to be here & away from there." She supplied with a small smile.

Before Stella could ask her any more questions the door clicked open & an Omega walked in with her bags. She was grateful to have the interruption & grabbed her bags from the Omega as he stepped in. She pulled out her shower supplies & a change of clothes to shower, & headed into the bathroom telling Stella she needed to get cleaned up after such a long bus ride.
