Grandpa grinned as he tickled each of us as he said our names. I didn’t know Santa’s reindeer had our names! “As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up to the housetop the coursers they flew with the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too— And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.” Grandpa tapped at our feet.

I scoff at him while she sends daggers his way with her eyes. “Adam, would you mind helping me carry them all?” She turns to Adam sweetly “Uh… sure, I guess. No problem there.” “Great! Adam will help then.” She drags him to his feet quickly before walking off with him towards our dorm and regretfully leaving me all alone with Lucas. “Great, I’m stuck with the Grinch.” “I’d like to think myself more cheerful than a green creature that steals gifts from children.” Lucas retorts. “He is cheerful, only when sapping the joy from others. You have that in common.”

I rolled my eyes, and then everyone started shouting, “Five. Four. Three. Two. One!” And instantly, the lights on the tree lit up like the fourth of July. It was stunning; I’ve never seen anything more beautiful than this moment right now. As the tree glistened and the snow fell, everyone began singing carols. It was honestly the most perfect moment I had ever witnessed. I didn’t want this moment to end….

Apart from my few friends here, people really don’t like me in this school but I’d rather be here than at my dad’s house. This year’s play was a spin on The Grinch Who Stole Christmas featuring the cast of North Hudson high’s theatre club. I guess doing the Grinch was a good change this time around. Last year’s play was all about the birth of Jesus and the three kings following the star to Bethlehem just like the year before that and the year before that as well. It’s really becoming old and pretty boring mostly because everyone already knows what’s going to happen and it’s just a matter of who’s the best cast. This time though, we are getting a fresh take on The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

I whisper, turning her palm over and licking it. She laughs and pulls her hand away. “I have presents for you, too.” We wrap ourselves in the robes I purchased from the lodge and head downstairs. I’d snuck out after Danny fell asleep and placed her presents beneath the tree. When I look at where her presents should be, I see double the number. Danny must have snuck down here after I fell asleep. “Santa came while we were sleeping,” I tell her. “Yes, he did.” It’s the best Christmas ever.

Kiara After offering Santa his fill of my milk and cookies, we settle down to watch "Home Alone" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." As the night deepens, we change into some warm clothes. Then, Trey prepares hot chocolate, filling thermoses for our Christmas lights adventure. Excitement courses through me as we drive through the illuminated streets, the colorful displays creating a magical atmosphere. As we pull up to the Botanical Garden, I find myself practically bouncing with anticipation.

"Fucking Christmas" I hear him Mutter under his breath before he takes his foot off the brake, turning down a lane that I vaguely remember leading to his mothers house. My little Grinch. We arrive outside of the house to a relatively empty street compared to the last time that we were here. This time Rhodes is even allowed to park in the driveway beside a small green beetle. I smile at the nearly fluorescent green colour, instantly being able to picture Eloise behind the wheel.

Lucas said, loving how annoyed Cole looked, “he should be the Grinch. That suits him more.” Cole shot him a glare, tugging at his red Santa coat. “I’m only doing this because my wife said she’s going to sit on Santa’s lap, and over my dead body will she sit on any other man’s lap.” His grumbling continued, though his eyes softened when they met mine as I finished applying a bit of makeup to his eyebrows, giving them a touch of gray. “That makes sense,” Lucas shrugged, snapping a few more photos of the “grumpy Santa” as Cole sat there, resigned to his fate.

Grinch shot back at the man, his voice calm but edged with steel as he stepped forward. “Who the heck is this now?”, The leader sneered, shifting his weight, his crew watching with expectant grins. “You don’t need to know.” Grinch cracked his knuckles. “You had your time infiltrating our territory, but a quick reminder—Enchanted Hills will never be yours.” “¡Ya tuve suficiente de esta farsa! { I have had enough of this charade}” The lead goon curled his fist and lunged attack on Grinch

“I count my hours in the office until the time I reach you.” Before she could reply the table tumbled before making a harsh squeaking sound and her dangerous stranger was right in front of them who stood radiating a deathly stare at her. “I have been here every night since the last fifteen days expecting just ten minutes of time to dance with you and you cannot give me even that while you can chat for a whole thirty minutes with this Grinch.”
