But no, I had to try winning the project on my own before resorting to Michelle's suggestions. Our relationship was already a mistake. I couldn't perpetuate it any further. I didn't want to hurt Jane more than necessary. I loved her, and our marriage was fine. Jane excelled as a luna, contributing significantly to our pack's growth. She was a remarkable woman.

Everything about him seemed to pull me in, drawing me closer like a magnet. I wanted to touch him, feel his hands around me, his warmth… Even if it was madness, even if I knew it couldn’t last. Julian looked between us. I saw the flicker of surprise in his eyes. I hadn’t realized she knew his name. Then again, Mauve noticed more than most.

Demetria said, shoving her way inside. Jane examined her head to toe, most likely wondering why she wasn't dressed, or presentable. Jane lifted her palms in a calm manner. "What's the matter? Slow down?" She slicked back her hands over her hair and sighed. "There is a reason I can't act on my mating bond with Kerry, and believe it or not, it's not because I don't like him. I like him, Jane. I like him so much." Jane gave her an unimpressed look and sat back down on the couch.

I growled ready for another bout just as Martha stepped between us. “Why don’t we take a breather and talk this through?” Martha noted. We both nodded before the beast shrank and Jane was shown standing before us naked and staggering about like she was drunk. I clothed her with a magical robe I created from the dead vines lying around before Martha helped her stand upright. “That’s enough training for today,” I noted, flying through the air with Martha while we took the Luna home. So many things I couldn’t explain were happening with Jane. If only she could tell me what was going on in her head, I would try to fix it for her.

I continued quietly, “I mark you as my forever mate and Luna.” Jane’s eyes filled with emotion so quickly it nearly unraveled me. “I Jane Foster, accept you in the name of our Moon Goddess as my mate,” she whispered back. “I swear to always love you with every breath I breathe. I mark you as my forever mate.” The world around us went completely still. The lake. The wind. The night itself. Everything faded until all I could feel was her beneath me. My mate. My forever. I pressed my forehead against hers again, holding there for a moment while emotion threatened to overwhelm me completely.
