Glory Gone
“Jaime, you saw it. Joseph has a terminal illness and is dying. Just leave him alone.”
His words triggered something in Jaime. She slapped him hard across the face and shouted, “Get out of here. If you do not leave, I will have the lawyer sue you for attempted murder.”
Derek’s face swelled at once. He had not expected her to hit him. His mask fell away, and he glared at her with clenched teeth. “You hit me? You hit me for a dying person?”
He grabbed a chair and smashed it against the floor.
I raised my voice. “This is not the place for you to argue. If you do not leave, I will call the police.”
